Just wondering, most of the people I know who read can listen to music while reading. I’m not so good with that, how do you do that??

I’m not so good either
Can’t concentrate on my book when music is playing
I have listened to music;but, i like reading in silence.
I tend to sing along most of the time but if I’m engrossed enough in the book the music is just background noise and helps me to relax
Its one of the bad reading habit because music would not encourage you to read more and understand but lead reader to confusion and distraction as well.
I do EVERYTHING listening to music, or singing, or playing music, or having a song stuck in my head… including reading lol…
Most of the times two different things can not run at the same time.
It helps me shut out everything else around me to focus on my book 🙂 I love to listen to music and read – especially when travelling. Music and books are my life!
I used to find it weird b4,but once I tried it it helped really, more fun actually :3
I can read in a public place where music is playing, but I don’t intentionally put music on at home while I’m reading.
I am a master at multi tasking. I can hold a conversation, watch a movie, listen to music, watch over my children, cook, …, all while reading. I have no idea how I do it. I just do.
Gordon bennett!! *-*
I cant. I just turn on ambient noise.
When I was a teen , I could read, watch a show on TV and listen to music !! And know what was going on with all 3 ! Not any more !!! That was a long time ago !!!
Me too! I don’t understand how I could managed all! I’m so old now! ?
My daddy could not figure it out !!! I was fine with it all !
I can listen to music in the background while reading non-fiction. Fiction, no way, can’t listen to music. Also, can only listen to classical. Anything with lyrics, I just sit there singing along.
I can’t
Nope. Can’t do it. This applies to reading, working at the computer or even holding conversations. If I am reading, I am fully engrossed and if I am listening to music, I can only manage repetitive manual tasks.
I like to put on classical music when I read at home
Not me.
I almost always have some sort of music playing. I do not have trouble reading with it on.
I love it! & I’ll usually listen 2 music that corresponds with the book. Like, I was reading a book about a LA gangbanger & listening to PAC at the same time. DOPE!
I can read with my husband poking at me – doing the “I’m not touching you routine” and the loud music he plays in the car. 🙂
Oddly enough the only music I canNOT listen too is Classical. I end up focusing on that instead of the book. Even music I don’t like isn’t really distracting. I get into the zone when I read. Not too many things can keep me out of it.
No, I’m always too keen to sing a long. Could maybe cope with something classical ?
when I read all else goes away.
My gran could read a book, knit and watch the telly at the same time. I need complete silence to read ☺ xx
I love listening to instrumental music while reading and am always thrilled when the song fits perfectly to my scene ❤
Usually listen to classical.
I find by that when I play a certain song I remember what part of the book I was reading ie if I hear anything by decon blue I remember parts of Stephen kings the stand x
I can do spa type music in the background. Stingray has a nice channel via our cable/Internet carrier
I can also watch tv when reading.
I can’t.
I can read in public with noise and stuff. Like low music or in public transports with cars honking. But if i put music on my own it distracts me. I would prolly sing instead of read?.
I listen to radio at night while I read during the day to is on but I pay no attention usually
I like to have something on in the background while i’m reading.
I listen to Native American flute music when I have alone time to read, otherwise there’s kids shows playing in the background (or kids whining!)
When I put my headphones ? on I always read faster
I can’t manage it quite as well as reading without music. It has to be instrumental if I must have music to drown out something else.
Classical or light jazz to drown out the barking dog across the street.
I can put music on .. but while reading it will not register anymore.. unless it bugs me like heat/cold/bugs/hunger…
Rather not. I find it distracting.
I read with the TV on. Lol
Occasionally, some light classical, but more often than not, total silence.
I can read listening to music or while watching a movie.
Oh, I’m a complete multi-tasker: people talking, TV/radio on – I can shut it all out.
Depends on the reason I’m reading. A magazine for fun? No problem. When my husband and I went on a road trip he was listening to an audiobook. THAT was tough!! I had to put music on (no words, and nothing with a tune I recognized) and I was able to read my book.
I only listen to classical or instrumental
I’m good with background music as long as it isn’t a complicated book.
Dunno. I like it to be as quiet as possible.
Nope gotta be quiet.
I listen to classical music when I read but sort of quiet.
I can do it with any kind of background noise. And usually music doenst bother me
Oh yeah. That’s what I did this afternoon. Home alone, all to myself reading all afternoon.
Me too. Wasn’t it great!?
Yeah…
All depends on the mood I am in. Sometimes I like to read in silence, sometimes I listen to music.
I can usually tolerate music if it’s something I know very well, then I don’t get distracted by the lyrics. I usually have music on to block out background noise if I’m out and about, but at home I can read in silence.
Not me. I get pulled in and swept away.
I like a very quiet environment
read AND listen to music? Well which one do you plan to pay attention to? Be all in for?
I listen to non vocal music… Like solo piano.. Or non familiar song will do.. Because if you listen to your favourite songs, you’ll lose your focus idk but that’s what i think about it.
When I read war or krimi novels I listen to the COD or Mercenaries soundtrack. I can read as long as the music has no lyrics.
I can read any where
I tune out and ignore the noises. I have a lot of practice due to a noisy household.
I listen to instrumental!
I have kids and pets. If I want to read I have to tune it all out. It’s a skill I have perfected. I can read with anything going on in the background. I think an audio book in the background might throw me though! ?
Idk but it’s awesome and sometimes when I listen to music I can remember which book I’ve read to which song ?
I prefer quiet. I can handle neighborhood noises while reading on my front porch, but in the house no television or music.
Light, calm music with no words.
