Personally, instrumental. Anything without words. If the book I’m reading has a specific cultural inspiration (such as Empress Dowager Cixi, Peony, Journey to the West all being Chinese) I try to listen to instrumental music from that culture.
Harry Potter soundtrack. Or go to youtube and type in “fantasy playlist” and there’s all sorts of awesome instrumental reading music perfect for fantasy books!
I can’t listen to music and read anymore but I can have ‘rain sounds’ on which I use as white noise to block out noise interfering with my reading. Or my husband’s snoring???
For me, instrumentals work best….if there are words, I very soon start to sing along, and there goes reading!! Television, on the other hand, I have no trouble ignoring!!

I just listened to Thunderstorms in Ravenclaw Tower a few days ago.
Harry Potter soundtrack. Or go to youtube and type in “fantasy playlist” and there’s all sorts of awesome instrumental reading music perfect for fantasy books!

I have a huge playlist.
@Arielle can u pm me some suggestions?
I can in a few hours after I get off work. I have all different kinds for different genres 🙂
the first one there looks interesting
I forgot that I can just send a link for the playlist I made. The first few are just regular classical music, but there’s tons of other stuff. You’re bound to find something you like I’m sure https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiqd4VZMO-lWNHk7nzTfgA2uF01hNHMog
im reading the first harry potter book and i cant find any soundtrack to that
@Brooke https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=harry+potter+soundtrack
i just typed it in on youtube and found it….
Pandora just type in Harry Potter. I know its there because it actually played on the station I listen to when I game.
is the first one the same thing as sorcerer stone?
yes
That’s the soundtrack for the movie. It would work.
they used the english title from England.
whats the best thing on Pandora?
i seen several for harry potter on Pandora
Search for classical music or Harry Potter.
Just listen until you find the right one for you.
The Harry Potter I hear is played on the World of Warcraft station I customized.
I just go on YouTube and search reading music…
I can’t. Envy those who can. I need quiet to read. I can cut out conversation etc, but not music.
I listen to this one alot
https://youtu.be/I6wFBVk4uGQ
This is one that I like.
I find that any music distracts me from my reading, as my brain starts to focus on the music over my book.
I’m the opposite. I cannot stand the dead silence, my mind will start to wander and I’ll end up thinking about what I’m having for dinner next week.
I listen to Yiruma on Pandora. Its all classical piano
I listen to the piano movie soundtrack
None 🙂
Netflix fireplace
None
Peaceful piano only. Absolutely no lyrics allowed when I’m reading because I’ll want to sing along.
I like Peruvian Flute music and nature sounds when reading
None. How can you concentrate on what you’re reading when there’s some “singer” blasting noises into your brain?
thats why they have instrumental
Not everyone’s brain processes things the same. I can easily read with music in the background…
None
Definitely none, and music is my life aside from reading. Just gotta keep them separate.
Instrumental for me.
Classical — very low in the background.
Depends …… Quiet background music… from classical to easy listening to musicals .?
None
Soundtracks. Acoustic. Stuff with no words.
I can’t listen to music and read anymore but I can have ‘rain sounds’ on which I use as white noise to block out noise interfering with my reading. Or my husband’s snoring???
None
I listen to a lot of soundtrack going from classic to GOT soundtrack of s6 ep10 because that soundtrack is eargasmic <3
for me light classical, or piano, mostly I put on the log fire from netflix
Personal taste. For me it’s none.
None for me. Can’t concentrate. Not even just music background.
Classical composers like Bach and Beethoven or many others
I have a playlist pull of just classical piano.
Depends on the book. For me breaking benjamin was my fav band when I was reading the millenium trilogy.
The sounds of nature.
Soft slow indie music
I’d say none, but if you must…. Go with light classical, no pop songs with lyrics, lyrics will distract you
Prefer silence when reading.
Spotify has some great playlists. I like ”Peaceful piano” and ”Reading soundtrack”! Piano and classical music.
Silence.
I prefer silence while reading
Whatever my characters would listen to. It helps set the mood, and gets my creative juices flowing!
I have the radio on but with the sound very low.
Easy listening or sounds of nature like rainstorms with thunder
Sometimes some classical music very low on the background but I love music so it can be quite distracting for me haha. So I prefer none xD
Hip hop
Waltz music, especially this one
https://soundcloud.com/aphelion1984/dark-vampire-music-the-vampire-masquerade-waltz-youtube
pretty much anything that’s instrumental, I prefer classical, but songs with lyrics being sung are too distracting for me.
I can’t do that. If I read I read, if I listen to the music I listen. I get too invested to do both.
Though I read without music, Mozart and Beethoven would go great.
Silence is my favorite ?
For me, instrumentals work best….if there are words, I very soon start to sing along, and there goes reading!! Television, on the other hand, I have no trouble ignoring!!
Nothing with lyrics or a decent beat. Nature etc. Dolphins.
Classical.
None
Yoga instrumental
Classical 🙂
