It depends. I like to listen to music no matter what I’m doing but when it comes to reading I have to choose something that won’t distract me, and then depending on the intensity of what’s happening in the book I might need total silence so my focus is totally on the work
Yes we usually play classical music during read time but currently its holiday music by request of my kids. (We have family read time where we sit together and everyone reads their own book)
Of course it’s normal, to each their own, right? I usually listen to music when I re-read books, because I just want to enjoy the already familiar words and plot. Usually, I try to look for music that is inspired by that book. I’ve found a lot of music inspired by my favorite books, on soudcloud. I listen to that and to other songs that give me the same feeling the book does.
https://soundcloud.com/thelibrettoproject The Librettoproject has some really cool instrumentals inspired by great books, if you’re interested in checking them out…
No, but I have the TV on constantly, I’m agoraphobic and it’s like having people round lol (yes, I would read a book with people in my house, surreptitiously if possible ?).
Cannot concentrate on a book at home if the music is on. I think it is because I love the music so much. I can however sit in a cafe and read through all manner of muzak if not too loud.
I get too distracted with other noises around me, when reading. Any talking, tv, music, etc throws me off.
Nope. As Leah said, it’s too much of a distraction.
Usually just instrumentals. I think it can add to the story sometimes.

It depends. I like to listen to music no matter what I’m doing but when it comes to reading I have to choose something that won’t distract me, and then depending on the intensity of what’s happening in the book I might need total silence so my focus is totally on the work
Sometimes I listen to music and also have TV on for background, but it also depends on the book I am reading.

Sometimes because my husband puts on music a lot!
Nothing. I always want to sing or hum along which becomes very distracting!
At home I usually have music on in the background. It normally doesn’t interfere with my reading unless the book is boring ?
I always have even as a child. We used to let our kids read while music was playing in the background in the classroom as well. They all did well.
It distracts me too much
Only soft instrumental classical music works for me. Nothing with lyrics.
Sometimes on my commute to block out other noise – don’t really listen to the music
