It took me awhile to get through the first one and I feel like I forced myself to finish it b/c I wanted to see the movie. I have a couple of the other ones on my NOOK and am in no rush to read them
I agree with everyone who said it was slow to start. Once I was hooked, I couldn’t put it down. I also flew through the second book. I can’t bring myself to finish the third one because I don’t want the original series to end. I know another author took over the series when the original author died but it’s not the same. My goal is to finish the third one this year.
The story is good: the characters are interesting and the plot is intriguing. The writing does get bogged down in details at certain points, but the books still tell a good story.
My grandfather was from Sweden and I still have some family there but not sure of the geography to know if they were close in area. But it definitely had an appeal to me because of Sweden.
Loved the first book, but I couldn’t take the violence so stopped. I heard a woman whose dad was murdered speak about why society sees murder as entertainment. Her story really affected me.
Great series. I lived six years in Europe growing up…three in Britian, three in Germany. Grade school and middle school. The US is NOT the center of the universe.
I loved it. The first book was hard to get started, for me, but after I got to about page 100, I was hooked!
Loved it!
Had a hard time getting into it. I loved the foreign films of the series…does that count, I had to read the subtitles ?
They were on Netflix, I didn’t watch the movie, when I realized I would miss it spending all my time reading the subtitles in English.
@Jennifer honestly after about 15 minutes you forget you’re reading subtitles
Excellent read but it is a series you need to pay attention to the details

I loved this series. I read it twice!

It’s definitely not the same… the first three were great reads, the others just so-so.
Great!!
The Swedish version is great!
Loved the Millennium series. Lizbeth Salander is a great character
Good series.
Excellent series.

Loved the series!
I couldn’t get into it. I didn’t finish the first book.
Loved it!
I got to page 20-something and returned it. I couldn’t pronounce a lot of the words ?
Get the audio book
I loved this series.
Loved the whole series!
Very graphic violence, but such a strong, fierce and determined heroine! I couldn’t put them down.
Try the books by Jo Nesbo (the o’s should have slashes thru them. Norwegian cop books.
I loved The Snowman! It’s the only one I’ve read but I enjoyed it.
Oh, and Henning Mankell’s Wallander.
Viveca Sten writes a Swedish series focusing on life and police on the islands of the archipelago.
Jo Neso is terrific.
My grandparents are from this area. I have been to some of the town’s in the books. Made it extra good to me.

I really enjoyed it.
I loved those books haven’t read the sequels yet by the other author.
There is more than one sequel?
@Kristen 2 now. The first I think was the sequel started my Larsson.
Loved it!!
Have read the 3 originals and 2 by the author who took over. Very good until the last one…disappointing
I have not read the final one. I have been reluctant.
Had a hard time getting into it, but I didn’t stop. Very good story, glad I finished!
I thought the first two were great but the third one just really was terrible.
Loved it!
Great characters and fascinating plots. Lots of gore, for me, but it was pertinent to the story.
Yes, but not the follow ups by another author.
Love them! I’m a big fan of Nordic Noir.
Loved it and got me into reading translated police procedurals from Sweden, Denmark, etc. It is a genre I really enjoy.
They are generally very high quality.
Nordic Noir
Love love love the 3 original. Haven’t read the new books
Good Book
yes – I read the 3 original ones and enjoyed them very much 🙂
Loved it. Intense and took me a while to get into, but once I did, I was hooked. I haven’t read the last install, though.
Loved all 3…tore through them.
Loved it
Good. First book is the best.
I have not enjoyed those books, just not my style
Never read it but I know lots of folks who loved it!
That was a great read from start to finish.
Loved them. Took me 4 tries but then I couldn’t put them down!
After you get thru the initial part…..
Loved the original trilogy by Stieg Larsson, and the next two by David Lagercrantz.
Great books!
Could not stop reading! So sad the author died and no more books.
Um, there are more books. Someone else took over. Many people are not impressed, and go with your original correct statement.
Love them but it took the movie to get me past the first few dry pages
Me too ❤️
Loved!!!
Liked the first one, the last became a little too “jump the shark” for me.
I tried the 1st one twice, and just couldn’t get into it. Perhaps,I should try again.
You have to get past the initial part but it’s important to the rest of the book….
It’s about the first 40-50 pages or so
Loved it. But that’s it. He passed away. Saw the movies, not as good.
Loved them!!
Loved the first book, but I couldn’t take the violence so stopped. I heard a woman whose dad was murdered speak about why society sees murder as entertainment. Her story really affected me.
I found the violence myself very hard to take.
I had trouble with the level of violence as well, but that scene with the nail gun – justice served!
Great series. I lived six years in Europe growing up…three in Britian, three in Germany. Grade school and middle school. The US is NOT the center of the universe.
First 2 books good, could not get into the third
I loved them!
I just read the first one and loved it.
Violence got to me.
Loved them!!
Enjoyed all the books…the ones by the new writer not so much
Loved!
Loved them all.
Fabulous!
I did enjoy them
Loved that trilogy. Have you read the latest one written?
I could never watch a movie as violent as these books, but I enjoyed the books and read the whole series.
I just watched the first as a film and it didn’t seem as good, but I knew the ending and wasn’t as interested at that point in time.
Good point. Violence on screen, or even on audiobook seems to me more extreme than reading it.
I want to read those
They were really ood!
Liked the first one OK, became tedious to me after that. Glad I read the first one. I’ve not seen any movie adaptations.
I struggle with books in which I cannot pronounce names of the characters. I am hoping to one day try it in audiobooks.
I give every one nicknames as I read so Blomkvist is Bloomy et cetera.
@Karen I’ve tried that. I would need to keep a list on the side of who is who. ?
Devoured this series!
Excellent read. Got my non fiction reading husband hooked too!
Intense
Awesome
Slow to get into, but then wonderful. Very personal and involving novels. Any recommendations of this type?
Loved them.
