They’re really good!
Definitely worth it. It’s grim at points, but a really well constructed plot with very interesting characters
Thank you x
Good but very dark.
I’ve heard it’s badly edited, but it’s really popular so must have something good!
I did read all three back to back some years ago now, and to be honest I was fed up during the third one, great reads, but perhaps space them out.
You have to persevere, the first couple of chapters are hardwork then you won’t be able to put them down, promise!!!
didn’t like them but seemed to be in the minority
I don’t like the first chapters to be hard work. I read to relax, not to work, certainly not since A Level Lit days 🙂
Yes they were excellent books,I really enjoyed them, they are much better than the films.
It has to grab me by the first 100 pages !
Yep, got the lota few years ago, they’re a great read, I got sucked into them. Give it a go!
Didn’t get very far into the first one as it didn’t grab me and I’m not patient.
Me neither Lesley, I gave up ?
@Carol I just don’t want to have to work that hard.
I loved them.
I tried, but not for me.
They are brilliant. I read the first two and then couldn’t get a copy of the third, this was when they were really popular. I was desperate! Luckily I managed to borrow a copy.
Starts slow but stick with it – brilliant books – I personally wouldn’t bother with the later ones written by someone else.
Yeh they’re really good. Well worth sticking with.
I’ve just read the The Girl Who Takes an Eye For an Eye. Same characters but different author.
I’ve got that in my to read pile. Is it still good, David?
@Patricia I thought so yeh. There’s a 4th book too after the trilogy that was also good
Thanks ?
The two by the other author are quite ordinary in comparison.
@Bonnie I thought they were just as good.
@David Thats great. I have been trying to read ‘The Girl Who takes an Eye for an Eye, Swedish (original) version and I am struggling. So much so, I have put it down for now and reading other books.
@Bonnie I certainly don’t think they’re ordinary. They’re very different from what I’m used to reading
I loved them 🙂
Excellent reads x
I struggled to get into the first one but persevered and loved them
Brilliant books you will enjoy them
They’re brilliant!
Brilliant books xx
I’ve not read them. My husband enjoyed them although the second book seemed like a bit of a filler he said.
They are among the best books ever written. Read them!
The world was robbed of an amazing author when Stieg Larsson died.
1 is great 3 was my favourite
Thank you everyone x
I really enjoyed them – I like the first one the most – but I did get confused with all the days which looked very similar to my non-Scandanavian brain!
Why are you irritated?
C os can’t decide which of my tbr pile I shud start ! ?
Yes I agree 1 and 3 are the best.
Unbelievably outstanding, I loved them xx
I didn’t like the style of writing but this is not the first time I’ve had difficulty reading a translated book. I think if you can stick with them they are really good.
I gave up on the first one, not for me ?
complicated read, the film was good
I loved the first two. I keep putting off the third because of its size!
Best trilogy I’ve read!!
Fantastic books. Absolutely loved them.
The trilogy is well worth your reading time. Well written, gripping books.
Enjoyed the first one but had completely lost interest by the last
I read all of them thought the first one was the best
All 3 are well done – Book #1 is the best in my opinion.
They are really good!
Well worth the read loved them
If you can get through them they are a good read, personally i dont like books too long
Amazing books!
one of the best series i have read, stick with it!
I havent, however a very good friend has read them all and loved them.
I stopped at 100 pages of the first one – just didn‘t enjoy it
Only the first one so far. Nothing really gets going until about 250 pages in but if you’re prepared to keep going it’s good in the end.
At my age I don’t even buy green bananas 😉
Well worth the read, great books.
Thanks everyone x
I enjoyed them but would be lying if I said they weren’t a hard slog at times!
It is SO worth the time! One of the best crime stories ever. Go for it???
Brilliant books – all 3! The original Swedish films are the best too!
Read them all. Well worth the time.?
Great books!!
Good books, though some aspects seem a little far-fetched.
Not if you prefer procedurals to convoluted twisters, like I do.
Thought they were brilliant x
I enjoyed them. But didnt read them one after the other…xx
great
Yesssss I read the first one and went out and bought the next three. I’m waiting for a long weekend to read them both. The first book was a 5.
Really really good
Good
Those books are what started the trend for Nordic Noir…Execellant stories.
What about Henning Mankell?
He was first published with his Wallender series, first translated in 1997 i think but i think Steig Larsons 2011 novel followed by the film created a buzz that really began Nordic Nore,i.e. J0 Nesbo, Jussi-Adler Olsen,Karen Fossum and et all.But hey she asked for an opinion not a contest.
@Budway I was just wondering as I knew Mankell long before I’d heard of Larssen so I was interested.
Great
They’re very good, slow burn but excellent
I liked it
Yes I skim read a fair bit of the first one. (Found the financial/business chat boring) but glad I stuck with it. Great trilogy!!
The boating stuff did for me!
@Lesley must’ve skim read that too as I can’t remember it??♀️
Brilliant I was the same but worth the read xxx
Excellent series.
Very good books
They are really good!!!
I enjoyed them
Loved them
i thought worth the time
I loved them be prepared to have all the feels
I have read all 3 of them and loved them all.
It is an absolutely excellent read. I couldn’t put it down.
Loved them all!
Amazing
I found the 1st one very difficult to get into. Once I did ooohhhhh ?? could not put down ?
Top of the crops
Loved the series….
I read the first and thought it was brilliant.
And of course there are now 2 additional books written by David Lagercrantz continuing the journey – with the authority of whoever it is has the rights to Larsson’s books, over which there has been some difficulty as between his long time partner and his family.
Yes. They got me back into reDing after a long absence! Just skip the really violent bits. But they are part of the story not a gratuitous add on .
Persevere with the first one….. once Lisbeth is in ….. amazing
Excellent
They are brilliant x
Loved them!!!!
All three….great books
All are excellent
They are excellent! Read all three!
Well worth reading, enjoy.
Agree, first bit seems very dull, but once you get into it it is unputdownable
Well worth the read
I love them
Book 1 needs patience… 1st 100 odd pages set up the rest of the trilogy by describing the politics and finances of Sweden… Once it gets going… My word… Unputdownable…
Long but totally worth it!
Yes very good! Worth reading!
Brilliant!!
Brilliant read, almost gave up on the first one but so glad I kept at it
Just finished reading these books. Excellent and unputdownable.
The first book is a bit long winded but it sets up the other two and they are great and well worth the read
Well worth reading !!
Brilliant trilogy. There are extended versions of the Swedish films to enjoy, too! 🙂
I think it’s a fabulous trilogy and the books might be long but they’re a quick read.
Must read!
I loved them!
Excellent!!
Amazing…
I started it but didn’t finish. The movie was very interesting.
Brilliant
An excellent read
I read the first one. But the ending was way to much for me.
Well worth the read
I found them boring, repetitive & in serious need of editing. Had the man not died prior to publication, I suspect he’d have reduced the trilogy to a single volume. He should have, anyway.
It makes for a much more interesting thread when someone has a strong opposing opinion to all the ‘it’s a great book’! I just found it way too heavy going to entice me to carry on.
@Lesley That was my oopinion, too. I struggled througgh them because I’d been lent the set, & I hoped it would get better, but then, apart from Pippi Longstocking, I’m not a fan of the Nordic genres anyway. I’ve too much to do to spend Hygge evenings falling asleep over some of the offerings available. I’d much prefer snuggling under one of my hand made quilts, stitching another, & listening to a good talking book while sipping hot chocolate with home made damson vodka AND THEN falling asleep.
If you don’t like back-story and detail and meanders – you might not like these. But if you like strong women and the scandinavian outlook on life – then maybe they will appeal
I loved them all, I enjoyed the first book the most. It took me a while to get used to the character names, I had to go back to read over parts, but once I’d grasped who’s who it was brilliant
Loved them all. Read twice.
The first 100 pages of the 1st book could have been edited to 20 pages. After you get through that, it was good. Just good. I preferred the 2cnd book, didn’t drag on. Didn’t complete the 3rd. If you have them, give it a go.
I certainly didn’t survive the first 100. Nothing like. It lost me very early on. I just resent having to work that hard when there are other books which draw you deftly in from the beginning.
@Lesley agreed! Thought I should have warned her! Lol.
* they’re
Fabulous
Excellent books!
Absolutely loved this trilogy. Took a few efforts to get into book 1 but then i was hooked!
Don’t hesitate, read. Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander are riviting characters in three related plots. Magnificent, and great writing.
Thanks everyone I will give them a go x
But remember it’s fine if you don’t like something everyone else raves about 😉 We are all individuals with our own tastes – and our own minds 🙂
I read the first one and enjoyed that one then started second one and had to give up on it as I couldn’t understand it x
Read all of them and the new ones. Enjoyed the Swiss films not the american
You mean the Swedish films I suppose?
