@Robert the first 3 or 4 are good. there are so many of theses coming of age friends books that it depends how many you have read already as to weather you will like them.
Amazing books, thoroughly enjoyed them, read up to armageddons children, so not finished the whole series. Easy to read fantasy, you could argue he’s a formula writer but that asside I’ve no issue. They’re not going to win any literary prizes, but it’s a solid and highly enjoyable story and definitely a page turner
Years ago , just I was started getting into fantasy when I began reading Elric of Melnibone, a friend at work spotted me reading it. He handed me his book and said “This is THE BOOK!” So I took it and opened forth The Sword of Shannara My life has not been the same since then
I couldn’t get through the first book. I’ll try again eventually
Same here. It was so boring.
Read the second, Elfstones of Shannara, as a standalone and it’s good!

Loved it when I was a teenager just can’t get through them now
Same here
Thoroughly enjoyed it
Straight forward fantasy, an easy read and very entertaining. Ticks all the standard fantasy tropes. I’ve read all the 30+ Shannara books
I agree with you whole-heartedly. The books were far better than the show.
Couldnt get into the books or the show, seemed like a massive lotr rip off to me
I love it! It isn’t a Lord of the Rings ripoff at all except for the Sword of Shannara which is very similar.
@Edward I’ve never read the books, but the TV series was very confusing at times. I’m gonna have to read the books now.
The first book was so bad I couldn’t finish it. I keep being told the others are so much better but I haven’t bothered yet.
Read the entire Shannara series, waiting for the last 2 books to be done and end the series.
I liked it, but not one that i’ve had the urge to go back and reread.
Loved the books, couldn’t get through the 1st episode of the show

First book is a major snore fest, but the second was exceptional. I couldn’t get into the singing magic of the third, so I stopped about halfway.
TLDR: Read the Elfstones of Shannara as a stand alone and forget the others.
The books are excellent. The show is pretty good, but I did have to pretend that I did not read the books to get into it.
@Edward dumbed down for American’s really ? Idiot!!
The show sucked ass!! Books are awsome.
The chicks are cute but that’s The extent of it. The acting and story were cheese fest
@Lucas truth hurts .
Lucas Greene so it’s ok for him to insult America but it’s not ok for me to point out the obvious .
I’ll leave the group then it’s been a nice time being in it up till this time.
Johnny Owens You are not America.
I loved them. Its been 25 years since I read them. After like the 5th or 6th one tho it started to get boring to me tho.
I’ve actually been given the whole series but I have not gotten around to reading them yet, so am keen to see what everyone says here.
I loved the books, not a big fan of the series
