@Amelia loved that one as well! My dad got it for me, and I groaned when I saw the author cause I really didn’t like the twilight series. But I gave it a chance and really enjoyed that one.
The Touched saga. Started reading it the first time and couldn’t get into it. Picked it up again about 6 months later, reluctantly, and fell in love with it
I thought I would hate Warm Bodies because I’m not a fan of zombie anything, but I love that series. The Outsiders, I thought it would be childish because most people I knew who like it were younger, but it’s one of my favorite books.
Honestly? Court of thorns are roses. I loved ToG and shortly after HoF came out I caved and read it. Hated the first half of the book during the first read. Was frustrated for the Beauty and the beast reference. Disliked that Tamlin was such an ass and she chose to love him anyway. Hated him for his actions under the mountain, which is the only part of the book I really liked originally. I had such negative feelings about the first book that when the second one came out I dismissed it. How could this be the same author that wrote ToG? And then I started reading reviews for the second book and each one said it was better then the second and by far one of their favourite books by Maas. So again I caved. I read it and I loved each and every bit of it. It felt like a wake up call personally it just seemed to fit the puzzle pieces I had of my personal life together in a way that I could approach them and really make them fit to see the bigger picture rather than just kinda make them fit. And when the third book came out it was a roller coaster for all the right reasons. And over time I grew to love everything about the whole series. Except FAS. There are little parts I can’t get over because I just don’t agree for the reasons. But other than that… yeah, one of my favourite series to date. We’ll see what changes the next instalment brings and if I continue to like the direction that it goes in.
First time I read Matthew Reilly’s Seven Ancient Wonders I thought I’m gonna hate this but I’ve read the rest of the school library and now here I am so many years later! I have all of his books and try to go every signing in Melbourne lol
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong, I tried reading it and put it to one side as I was sooo bored ? finally gave it another try and loved it, the entire series and she’s now one of my fav authors
Shadow and Bone because I never liked fantasy and didn’t think any book could or would ever change my mind. Then I read Shadow & Bone and have been hooked on fantasy every since
A Discovery Of Witches by Deborah Harkness! I didn’t necessarily think that I’d HATE it but I certainly didn’t think it would be my favourite! It still is my most favourite book EVER!!!
Hannah Bekka Harman I have been wanting to read that for a while now. Every time I pick it up I end up not getting it. I hear it’s good I just don’t know what the plot is. I feel like the summary does not explain enough for me what to expect, so I am hesitant to get it.
@Rachel it’s such a good one. I remember getting worried it was going to be overly dystopian and I was really over that genre at the time but it’s sooo much more than that.
@Miranda Yes! That’s exactly why I didn’t think I’d like it, but so many people kept pointing me to it, so I gave it go. I got nothing done that week. lol And I’ve read them all twice now. The guy’s a genius.
@Rachel I had the arc from the first one off goodreads and wasn’t expecting much. I finished it in the day and was just shocked. Waiting for the next was miserable luckily netgalley arc copied me for the next two and the publisher sent me iron gold. I have not gotten one for his last one and Im hearing that dark ages is going to be a behemoth compared to the read clocking in just over 700 pages. Interested in more of the political debates it’s a more sci-fi vibe of game of thrones to say the least. Each book I always worry a favorite is going to die and it stresses me out ?
1984
Furyborn by Claire Legrand. By the end it completely won me over, and the sequel is the only book I’ve ever pre-ordered!

@Tosha I was so surprised when I liked it. Bc I did not like Twilight and even the first 100 pages or so dragged on for me but I ended up loving it.
@Amelia the beginning is slow, but worth the wait. It definitely surpassed Twilight and that other book she wrote.
@Amelia agreed!!!
@Amelia loved that one as well! My dad got it for me, and I groaned when I saw the author cause I really didn’t like the twilight series. But I gave it a chance and really enjoyed that one.

Same! Lol. I think I checked out the first book about 4 times from my library and I finally read far enough to really get into it.
The selection series
A Discovery Of Witches by Deborah Harkness! I didn’t necessarily think that I’d HATE it but I certainly didn’t think it would be my favourite! It still is my most favourite book EVER!!!

The Hunger Games. I did not think I would like it and then was obsessed with them.
The bird and the sword
Red Rising. And I ended up reading the full series in a week. LOL
@Rachel it’s such a good one. I remember getting worried it was going to be overly dystopian and I was really over that genre at the time but it’s sooo much more than that.

Yes! I’m alway cringing along the way. ?
Firebolt
All quiet on the western front. Not my genre at all, but I loved it so much!!
Six of Crows – only because the beginning started off weird…with characters that weren’t part of the main story…but I’m so glad I stuck through it
@Angie I love that book! But I agree, why the first chapter? I was always hoping we would hear more about the soldier later.
