“Red sparrow”
White is the coldest colour by john nicholl. I was wary as it was to do with children’s services etc but it was so brilliantly written and a gripping psychological thriller.
Same for me Helen, great book and very sensitively written.
Conclave by Robert Harris. Who know selecting a pope could be so bloody facinating.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Completely different to what I enjoy reading but it was a brilliant moving story and a book I won’t forget!
I am halfway through Sweet Pea by C J Skuse. Was not sure at first but am loving it now.
Magpie Murders great concept very cleverly written.
In my TBR pile
I usually read series but this was a gift so I had my doubts but thoroughly enjoyed it.
Northanger Abbey, because I HAD to read it for my course and at the time I had only read Stephen King and Dean Koontz!
tKate Atkinson’s Life after Life. I bought this and then decided to read some reviews before I read it and was put off by all the negative reviews so didn’t read it unitl I was on holidays and stuck for something to read. I absolutely loved it and have read it a few times.
Another book that was very different and really had to concentrate but absolutely loved it
The book thief
Big Little Lies. Wasn’t sure when I started it and thought it was going to be chic lit, but I loved the way it developed and how you began to see what was going on behind closed doors.
I agree, thought it was a bit disjointed at the beginning but loved it in the end and now can’t wait to watch the series
The Various Haunts of Men by Susan Hill. I’d read some of her short stories in school, and not really got on with them – I think they were spoilt for me by being an exam book – so I was pleasantly surprised that I loved her crime books, the stories are gripping and the characters so believable and often lovable.
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, it was recced to me by a close friend who loves romance, and I thought..hmm, not sure, but I tell you what, it is one of my most fave books now. It ended up being beautiful and heartwrenching and I loved it so much I went and bought all her other books and read them.
The Northern Lights Philip Pullman, great book and I thought it was for kids (young readers) my bad loved it and read the rest in the series
A Thousand Splendid Suns. Khaled Hosseini. It’s so thought provoking and leaves such a lasting memory.
I loved that book, got me back into reading. Very thought provoking.
I loved that one too. It’s one of the books I can still remember the details of years later.
Wow, I still think of that one.
@G.D. you must. Believe me you will remember it forever. I envy those who have not had the pleasure of reading this book. If you like it you will then want to read The Kite Runner and And the Mountains Echoed. Ooh what treats are in store for you. ???book envy
The Shipping News by Annie Proulx
The Unit, Nini Holmqvist. And Memoirs of a Geisha – it was a book club choice and not my usual read but it was extremely interesting and well written.
I’d have to say An Inspector Calls. I had to read it for school, but I remember sitting in maths once and cos we didn’t have a teacher we were just told to do some revision instead so I just sat there reading the book. I got that engrossed in it that when the bell went at the end of class I was really confused cos I’d forgotten where I was. That’s not happened to me since
The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. Read it because I’d been told I should and it was a “good” book (ie not like the crime stuff I usually read, was the implication). Loved it – still think about it often. It’s being turned into a film – hope they do a good job.
Requiem by Cliiord Mohr
Twilight as it has a lot that just kept me interested. Love vampires
