We enjoyed them, gentle drama and no grunting sex scenes!!!!!!!! Always think poor story when either television or books relies on the latter x

I thought they were fabulous. Great production values. Liked the choice of actors. Best telly of recent times.

First was good, second not so much. She’s good, he’s too young. But that’s just my opinion comparing with the books. They both worked well as tv dramas taken in isolation from the books.

The first one was good. I thought the second one silly, contrived and pretentious. IMO.

I really liked them. At first I was worried about the casting but I think Tom Burke is great. as is Holliday Grainger. I also like the way it is filmed and particularly the show titles. I also like that they have kept faithful to the stories in the books.

Yes, just you. If the author hadn’t been outed as J.K.Rowling might your enjoyment have been greater?

No. Didn’t mind the first one too much. Thought the second one was like Midsummer Murders on bad drugs tbh.

2
Paul

Loved them all

Lesley

My enjoyment was in no measure influenced by who the author was. I just found it all a wee bit Tuppence and Tommy 😉

1
Paul

Would you have enjoyed it more if it had been typed on LINUX?

0
Eve

Thoroughly enjoyed the books and the TV adaptations.

1
Andrew

I find the thought of Midsummer Murders on bad drugs oddly enticing.

2

Wasn’t as good as it sounds Andrew although the idea of Noel Fielding being involved would be good.

To be totally honest, enjoyed the TV dramas more than the books. The characters are great in the series, and to me they perfectly match those in the books. However, I am sure JK Rowling was just having a quiet dig at the publishing industry and those she has met in it with The Silkworm, because the plot was simply ridiculous, particularly the ending. I think the ‘inside joke’ was that it was meant to be pretentious because the publishing industry is pretentious… Unfortunately the readers weren’t let in on it. Perhaps she was happy hiding behind the pseudonym until someone let the cat out of the bag. It’s JK Rowling’s Bombyx Mori!

Tthe Sillkworm should have been at least 4 episodes – two just didn’t cover all the book and the script was confusing. For somebody that hasn’t read it – it must have been very confusing – but I like the actors I thought they were a good choice for strike and Holly.

So far they’ve made good a TV crime show and Tom Burke is impressively understated. I’m enjoying them although I can’t compare. I have the books but I haven’t read them.

I liked the 2 main leads but thought the stories a bit weak. Not very gripping, just chasing down who did it out of the few suspects there were. Also, found it difficult to really care last night and found the story too bizarre. But, I do like the two detectives so will definitely watch again just to see how their relationship develops.

Agreed. The cast was better than the storyline which was weak and implausible. Not sure about an Oxford drop out, injured war hero with a rock star father who behaves like a U.S. Gumshoe either. All a bit YA.

Seriously, I enjoyed the first, less so the second. I thought the plot of the second was poorly developed by the TV programme. On the whole the characters are excellent, the plots less so.

Agree totally with this. Loved the books. The first book was adapted well for tv, I think the second one was weak. Left a lot of the detail out. Should have been over 3 episodes not 2 maybe.
