Finished reading salem falls by Jodi picoult and went to YouTube to find some book reviews and found a copy of the film. THEY DIDNT EVEN GET THE MAIN CHARACTERS NAME RIGHT!!!!!
I loved the book but really thought the movie was good too. But I can understand how you might be disapponted. Sometimes we just have different expectations for the movie. I guess I was happy with Tom Hanks in the role and the fact that the major plot lines were covered. Its very hard to make a movie from a book that has so many details.
I loved Phillip pullmans trilogy northern lights, but the movie the golden compass wasn’t well received. It’s a shame as the next 2 books could have been made into amazing movies.
I really don’t think there are a lot of films that are better thank the books as they have so much more info etc. I personally build up the characters in my mind then feel disappointed when the film comes out as they are nothing like the description in the book
Agreed! Been watching the show lately and so far I’m feeling very satisfied even though it is a little bit too kooky at moment. But NPH never lets you down
@Jill Were you able to finish it? I tried so hard! I usually can get through a tough book, but I think because this was SO much different, I just couldn’t!
i struggled with the books. I just couldn’t relate to the characters or understand the decisions and though process so the movies were better but they weren’t good movies. And yes I gave them my full 100% effort. Best friends loved them so I tried. Just wasn’t for me ?
I thought they both were terrible but they are a guilty pleasure. I’ve read the series multiple times and the books are better, but the writing is bad. I also watch the movies once in awhile ?
Bourne Identity – Movie was so different from the book, why did they have to change it so much? I enjoyed both but I am mad at the producers/writer of the movie because they made it a completely different plot.
I 100% agree. Loved those books and I was so sad they didn’t do a better job. I talked about those books so much I got my brother into them and we left the theater in such disappointment. ?
when I haven’t read the books I usually love the movies. kind of like Jack reacher. but if I read the book then watch the movie and it doesn’t go along at all i can’t get into it at all
Yeah, I’m with you on this one. I love the Jack Reacher books. But one of the main things about him is his size. Tom is just so small, kind of ruins it for me. That and many other things.
Beloved…. I can’t believe anyone thought they could come anywhere close to that book. 75% of that book is how Tony Morrison writes, I was disgusted. And Water for Elephants and Memoirs of a Geisha
I watched the movie before reading the book…. I loved both but I think I would have been disappointed if I had read the book first… so glad I saw the movie first
Worst: Harry potter and the half blood Prince – left out 3/4 of the book.. left out the most important detail which is the explanation for why voldemorte hates muggles… which is what the who series is about!
The whole series is definitely not about why Voldemort hates muggles ? it’s about Harry trying to survive and figure out how to destroy Voldemort while Voldemort attempts to carry out the prophecy made about them both.
I’m not sure I would consider that a main point. I mean, that’s what the first war was about, but his second war and the ensuing Battle of Hogwarts was more about Harry than anything else ??♀️
I know that but I mean the explanation as to why voldemorte had this hatred was never explained in the movienlike the book. I believe it is an an extremily important fact / explanation that lead up to the other main events happening
@Amanda I get frustrated every time because of how off the third one is but it’s always been my favorite book and so I have read the book a million times, I also hate how old lupin is! All the marauders should be in their early to mid 30s
Olivia Bush Kruse I definitely agree about Lupin! I mean I realize the werewolf in him is supposed to be draining but he shouldn’t have looked that bad. The third is my second favorite book! It used to be my favorite but the older I get, the more HBP grows on me
Worst ever, Interview with the Vampire, Except for the casting of Brad Pitt, it was all wrong. Anne had no say in it but she’s doing a tv series soon, so will see how that one turns out
Worst. The English patient. They turned it into a romance. It was not! The Count clearly tells the Thief at the end of the book that he saw K at college and set up the trip to the dessert. ( forgive me, I forgot their names)
I have this new belief that if you haven’t read the book and you see a movie is coming out, watch the movie and then read the book and you won’t get disappointed ?
My sisters keeper did not even have the same ending! I suppose people that read are expected to have a thicker skin and understand there isn’t always a happy ending.
@Sharon I hope you like it better than I did. I just couldn’t get into it and then when I watched it on TV, I loved it, which is unusual as the book is normally better than the film.
The Help – book was a squillion times better. The movie was not bad but the running joke of the chocolate pie was over done in the movie and lost its punch.
They were actually suppose to do the fourth movie, ascendant (or something like that), which would have added Tris’s death, Tobias zip lining, spreading her ashes etc, but they wanted to adapt it to a TV movie, and not a theatrical one, and all the main characters bailed. (Obv because they weren’t going to get paid enough, and would probably be slandered by the whole fan base), they were thinking about recasting Tris, Tobias, Peter and Caleb, but I don’t think they’re going to go through with it
I think the thing I hate the most about the movie adaption though, is how.. there’s obviously not a connection between tris and Tobias. Also, hate how they keep calling him four lol
Yeah, I would be upset if they did that. I had heard they were supposed to do a TV movie. I knew with they way they left it, they might try to add a fourth movie. The connection could have been stronger in the movies for sure. There was so much more going on between them. Also, I hated how they didn’t have Tris go through the grieving and what not after divergent. She was all sorts of messed up for awhile.
Lord of the rings was decent, but I wish the extended edition had more about the eagles because everyone who hadn’t read them hates on them for not helping more. The hobbit was eh, I love the movies but hate all the extra crap they added to make it three movies.
They help throughout the books because Gandalf saved one from a poison arrow, but they are there own people and therefore aren’t there for every little thing. Plus they could be corrupted by the ring so they couldn’t just carry it. Hobbits are good and less likely to fall into the evil of the ring. Plus the eagles are massive! The spies of mordor and isengard would have noticed a giant eagle flying someone to mordor. The hobbits were able to sneak into mordor unnoticed thanks to the distraction of the wars with humans (Rohan and gondor). Plus, even if an eagle did manage to fly the ring over mount doom, there’s no way it could accurately drop the ring into the fire. It would be a drop and hope it hits the fires.
I’m a huge fan of The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich but the movie based on the first book One for the Money was horrible. I didn’t like the casting at all.
If I read a book and then watch the movie I always wonder how anyone who hadn’t read the book can understand what is going on in the movie, because so much detail is left out
Best – Driving Miss Daisy, Lord of the Rings and even – dare I say? – Harry Potter and Game of Thrones series; Worst – The Great Gatsby, Twilight (not that the book is any good but it is bad!), Da Vinci Code (just because I hate Dan Brown!).. there are many! 🙂 x
Best: Harry Potter even though I wished they included certain events in the GOF. Worst: Vampire Academy, Blood and Chocolate, and Cirque Du Freak: The Vampires Assistant.
@Lydia omg! No! The books were amazing!! Tv series has been okay but still a disappointment compared to the books the movie just sucked in a BIG WAY HAHA
Best hunger games the worst was when they made movie’s of nora Roberts book’s my god they ruined the books. I had to read them again because they missed out so much .they need burning the films not the books.
The Amber spyglass adaption with Nicole Kidman – could have been so much better, but had the soul ripped out of it. LOTR – really good movie adaption. Although I never want to watch it again! It’s good, but can’t take the sexual tension between Frodo and Sam!
The mortal instruments is still one of my all time faves in book form, movie ? they had like young inexperienced actors playing the role of 500 year old vampires and Luke was the wrong color lol I’m not racist by any means but when you describe a 40yo white man for 7 books and then have a 20yo black man step in… ??♀️
Good :girl with dragon tattoo ,Bridget movies , girl on train , Bad …captain Corelli , all films of wuthering heights ( apart from tv series with Tom Hardy )….
@Michelle well that settles it, I’m getting the book next time I go to the library. I usually don’t read the book after watching because I already know the ending but now I must read it immediately lol ? ??♀️
I wasn’t as disappointed with that one, so the book must not have been fresh in my mind but I had just read Best of Me and was so happy to see the film….and it was dumb things, like the sex of her children…and just stuff like that, that I’m like “why did they switch that?”
I loved the movie for Tomorrow when the war began didn’t like the TV show they did for the same book. Wish they would of done another movie for the second book but it was scraped.
Disney’s version of Winnie the Pooh was definitely one of the worst … why the heck do the characters have American accents when the books are quintessentially English?
Miss Peregrines for the worst adaption of all time!
I loved it
The movie was fine, in itself but it was nothing really like the books in my opinion
Finished reading salem falls by Jodi picoult and went to YouTube to find some book reviews and found a copy of the film. THEY DIDNT EVEN GET THE MAIN CHARACTERS NAME RIGHT!!!!!
They changed the end of My Sister’s Keeper and ruined it in my opinion
DaVinci Code, Angels And Demons, Inferno movies just beyond terrible
I haven’t read the books yet but plan to. I have seen the films and really enjoyed them though I’m sure they are missing a lot of the book.
I thought DaVinci Code was a good adaptation of the book, what didn’t you like about it?
@Cassiek basically everything, it never started like the book did so it was downhill from there for me
I loved the book but really thought the movie was good too. But I can understand how you might be disapponted. Sometimes we just have different expectations for the movie. I guess I was happy with Tom Hanks in the role and the fact that the major plot lines were covered. Its very hard to make a movie from a book that has so many details.
The Notebook
One of my favorite books and movie
The movie is my all time favourite and was a fan before i read the book! Not as keen on rhe book but was very good x
I read the book first and enjoyed it very much. Did you see the movie first?
The time Traveler’s wife-worst adaption.
Agreed. Completely ruined it.
YES
Agree
Yasssssss
I would say the lord of the ring trilogy is the best for me. The girl with the dragon tattoo was also awesome (swedish version)
Loved the movies but haven’t read the books
I think the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was a great movie also, they did a good job with it.
I loved Phillip pullmans trilogy northern lights, but the movie the golden compass wasn’t well received. It’s a shame as the next 2 books could have been made into amazing movies.
Pride and prejudice with Keira Knightly… SHOCKINGLY BAD!!!
I really really don’t understand the hate for it ?♀️
But the BBC series was great!
Going back a bit but Stephen kings misery was ruined by the film. Would have been a good film on its own but nothing like the book.
I have found that when it comes to Stephen King, they either are awesome ( Shawshank or Stand By Me) or they suck (Christine and Pet Cemetery)
Angela,s Ashes
I really don’t think there are a lot of films that are better thank the books as they have so much more info etc. I personally build up the characters in my mind then feel disappointed when the film comes out as they are nothing like the description in the book
And some things are completely missed out or changed beyond all recognition. You can’t fit a full book into an hour and a half.
Imo. Books are always better.
absolutely agree
A Series of Unfortunate Events (movie) – worst adaptation
Now the TV show is pretty good.
Agreed! Been watching the show lately and so far I’m feeling very satisfied even though it is a little bit too kooky at moment. But NPH never lets you down
Funny enough I thought it was the other way around
The series was a bit of a let down for my partner and I
Uhh Goblet of Fire movie is absolute trash.
Agee’s garbage! I didn’t like any of the movies.
I love the movies but that one… I will never forgive the producers for how bad they messed that up
It was the worst one out of the series. I don’t know why’d they do it like that
And ironically, the best book in my opinion
Ooh, I would have to agree there, Goblet of Fire was my favorite book of the series.
Book Thief – Thought the movie was great but the book was poorly written.
Under the Tuscan Sun was WAY better as a movie than a book. Those are rare words to leave my mouth!
Agree, and I know what you mean…
I’m glad! No one I know has read it! I tried and got to chapter 5 after forcing myself to. I just couldn’t and put it down!
Have to agree with that one! The movie was a delight and while I liked the book, I really did struggle with it at times
@Jill Were you able to finish it? I tried so hard! I usually can get through a tough book, but I think because this was SO much different, I just couldn’t!
Beautiful creatures film was really bad
Twilight – great books, terrible films
Twilight series is my guilty pleasure Haha, I have no desire to, nor have I seen the movies. Im 100% sure it will ruin it for me
i struggled with the books.
@Katey you can’t unseen them lol
@Kaytee i read them years ago in my teens when they first came out and nobody had heard of them ?
Bourne Identity – Movie was so different from the book, why did they have to change it so much? I enjoyed both but I am mad at the producers/writer of the movie because they made it a completely different plot.
The Green Mile book and movie were both fantastic
Perfume Story of a Murderer was a movie adaptation of a book they said couldn’t be done but I loved it!
Percy Jackson was extremely awful. absolutely nothing went along with the book. I didn’t even bother to watch the sea of monsters
I 100% agree. Loved those books and I was so sad they didn’t do a better job. I talked about those books so much I got my brother into them and we left the theater in such disappointment. ?
I liked the movies ?? have not read the books lol
when I haven’t read the books I usually love the movies. kind of like Jack reacher. but if I read the book then watch the movie and it doesn’t go along at all i can’t get into it at all
@Sierra i liked jack reacher too.. just like you, another book i havent read lol
A wrinkle in time! I was so excited for it because I loved the actors they chose to play for the characters!! But I strongly disliked the movie!!!!!
Jack Reacher .. Tom Cruise?!! Just NO! ?
Yeah, I’m with you on this one. I love the Jack Reacher books. But one of the main things about him is his size. Tom is just so small, kind of ruins it for me. That and many other things.
Also House of Sand and Fog was great
I agree! One of the few movies well done!
The Mountain Between Us book was great, the movie wasn’t.
The Lovely Bones. The movie was absolutely awful.
I HATED that movie.. made me not want to read the book
@Brittany book was so much better. I felt like you needed to be on drugs to understand the movie.
I saw the movie, but I hated it so I didn’t want to read the book. I thought the movie was creepy. Is the book creepy?
@Amanda not at all. It’s much easier to follow than the movie.
@Amanda i felt the same way! I got MAJOR creep factor from that movie. Will never watch again!
@Amanda the book is gorgeous – you will see the beautiful meaning behind the title – it’s not at all what you may think! 🙂
@Jill I may have to give it a try and pretend I didn’t see the movie lol
@Jill I agree that book was something special.
The Gunslinger / The Dark Tower
Message in a Bottle was not even close to the book.
The Mountain Between Us. Wonderful book but the movie messed it up!
@Carole agree?
I posted this one too. The movie completely changed the doctors story.
Complete roll reversal. It was a big disappointment!
Girl on the train movie was ?
Best: The Green Mile Worst: every single other one.
Beloved…. I can’t believe anyone thought they could come anywhere close to that book. 75% of that book is how Tony Morrison writes, I was disgusted. And Water for Elephants and Memoirs of a Geisha
For worst
Ready Player One movie ??
Great movie, but it did not follow the book almost at all
I watched the movie before reading the book…. I loved both but I think I would have been disappointed if I had read the book first… so glad I saw the movie first
Best? I don’t think that’s a thing
Best – To Kill a Mockingbird and Room
Worst – French Lt’s Woman
Worst: Harry potter and the half blood Prince – left out 3/4 of the book.. left out the most important detail which is the explanation for why voldemorte hates muggles… which is what the who series is about!
The whole series is definitely not about why Voldemort hates muggles ? it’s about Harry trying to survive and figure out how to destroy Voldemort while Voldemort attempts to carry out the prophecy made about them both.
Sorry the majority. But one of the main points is the fact volimorte is about pure bloods and his want for purity
Along that line: I hated Order of the Phoenix because the same: they cut out and compressed SO MUCH!!!
My least favorite is far and away Goblet of Fire. The movie adaptation is absolute garbage
@Tara that one was my fav lol. Deff interesting how ppl have such different views with books to movies
And I hated prisoner of Azkaban!
@Olivia see I thought that one followed the book the best out of any of them really. Actually I think the first three did a pretty great job
@Amanda I get frustrated every time because of how off the third one is but it’s always been my favorite book and so I have read the book a million times, I also hate how old lupin is! All the marauders should be in their early to mid 30s
@Amanda but the first two movies were excellent!
Olivia Bush Kruse I definitely agree about Lupin! I mean I realize the werewolf in him is supposed to be draining but he shouldn’t have looked that bad. The third is my second favorite book! It used to be my favorite but the older I get, the more HBP grows on me
I liked the Glass Castle movie. I thought it was good casting !
A tv miniseries but I thought Lonesome Dove was a great adaptation of a wonderful book.
Just finished that book. Wow!! never saw the miniseries. Available on Amazon Prime but charging for it. Why would they do that for an old miniseries?
Worst, Marjorie Morningstar
Worst kings dark tower
Best Shawshank
I thought they did a great job with Hunger Games
Agree
Worst ever, Interview with the Vampire,
Except for the casting of Brad Pitt, it was all wrong.
Thorn birds was one of the best book to miniseries not movie, but same idea
Worst. Lovely Bones.
It was pretty bad! Loved the book though
Wrinkle in time?
Worst: American Assassin
Worst I’ve ever seen is “we need to talk about Kevin”. I’d read the book and still couldn’t follow the movie
Green mile…Good.
Dark Tower… the worst
You’re right — The Dark Tower was the absolute worst.
Water For Elephants. Great book AND movie! Unusual.
I never saw the movie, but the book is one of my faves. I may have to watch. Thx
I feel the mini series of pride and prejudice, princess bride, holes, and hunger games were all done well
Absolute worst – Dune – no competition
Loved the books hate hate hate the movie
Yup yup yup
I quite like the movie! The one with Sting in it. The TV adaptation was however a pile of poop.
They are all v bad mostly how they allow that to happen to there books?..yes the green mile, shawshank and shutter island are excellent.
I have this new belief that if you haven’t read the book and you see a movie is coming out, watch the movie and then read the book and you won’t get disappointed ?
Exactly
green mile best for sure, My sister’s Keeper worst, followed by Lord of the Rings.
My sisters keeper did not even have the same ending! I suppose people that read are expected to have a thicker skin and understand there isn’t always a happy ending.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Speak had pretty good movies imo
Olive Kitteridge – Francis McDormand was perfect as Olive. This series was really good, but I did not like the book at all.
I haven’t seen this film but have the book on my TBR list
@Sharon I hope you like it better than I did. I just couldn’t get into it and then when I watched it on TV, I loved it, which is unusual as the book is normally better than the film.
Best: The Color Purple, hands down
Best. Gone with the wind. Absolute worst. The other Boleyn girl.
I think The Help was adapted very well to the big screen. I loved the book so much and was surprised at how much I loved the movie, too!
I agree
The Help – book was a squillion times better. The movie was not bad but the running joke of the chocolate pie was over done in the movie and lost its punch.
I liked the movie time travelers wife. Did not care to much for the book
If you have ever ready vampire academy you would cringe at the movie. I was so angry I could barely watch it.
I didn’t mind the movie it wasn’t the greatest but I still liked it.
The worst by far was eragon!
Divergent was good, but they slowly went down hill and the third completely changed the ending.
Eragon was a terrible movie ? and I’m so pissed they changed the ending of Allegiant!!
They were actually suppose to do the fourth movie, ascendant (or something like that), which would have added Tris’s death, Tobias zip lining, spreading her ashes etc, but they wanted to adapt it to a TV movie, and not a theatrical one, and all the main characters bailed.
Best -hunger games worst- Golden Compass and The Giver (I refuse to watch it because It will ruin the book. From the trailer I can tell I’ll hate it)
Lord of the rings was decent, but I wish the extended edition had more about the eagles because everyone who hadn’t read them hates on them for not helping more.
The hobbit was eh, I love the movies but hate all the extra crap they added to make it three movies.
Remind me about the Eagles. Why can’t they help sooner??
They help throughout the books because Gandalf saved one from a poison arrow, but they are there own people and therefore aren’t there for every little thing. Plus they could be corrupted by the ring so they couldn’t just carry it. Hobbits are good and less likely to fall into the evil of the ring. Plus the eagles are massive! Plus, even if an eagle did manage to fly the ring over mount doom, there’s no way it could accurately drop the ring into the fire. It would be a drop and hope it hits the fires.
All the extra stuff in the hobbit movies is from tied in short storys
Best:
Gone With The Wind,Miss Peregrines,The Notebook, and Harry Potter(Minus GOF)
Worst: A wrinkle in time,PJ,TMI,Eragon,GOF,Divergent series.
I thought the first divergent was good, the second was okay, and the third was a huge let down!
Worst. Lovely bones. Best. Idk I always complain “that’s not how it happened in the book” lol
Big Little Lies mini series was different- but well done. I know a lot of readers hated it set in Monterey but I thought it worked
I actually really enjoyed it but didn’t find it as suspenseful as the book.
Not a movie, but TV series, UNDER THE DOME sucked! So different than the book! The book was good, the TV show made me mad
Voyage of the Dawn Treader was the worst!
Best: Catching Fire, Harry Potter series and Lord of the Rings.
Worst: The Giver and the Divergent series.
The Divergent movies were a train wreck. The first one was okay, but Insurgent and Allegiant were awful.
Part 3 of divergent series, the circle
I’m a huge fan of The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich but the movie based on the first book One for the Money was horrible. I didn’t like the casting at all.
I thought Gone Girl was done really well.
If I read a book and then watch the movie I always wonder how anyone who hadn’t read the book can understand what is going on in the movie, because so much detail is left out
Worst: Beloved
Best: The Color Purple
Percy jackson is The Worst! The most recent Jane Eyre was pretty good tgough.
Warm bodies! The book was amazing, but the movie was just horrendous
The best I would say would be the notebook. I actually thought the movie did the book justice.
Best: Harry Potter even though I wished they included certain events in the GOF.
Worst: Vampire Academy, Blood and Chocolate, and Cirque Du Freak: The Vampires Assistant.
Blood and chocolate is a book? I’ll have to look it up!
Vampire Academy is the worst I’ve ever watched, didn’t like Beautiful Creatures either x
A Man Called Ove…. very good adaptation. Netflix.. in Swedish with English subtitles.
The Mortal Instruments Series – Worst
Harry Potter Series (mostly) – Best
I was very disappointed in Mortal Instruments.
I was disappointed too. I haven’t watched much of the show, but it seems to have several seasons so it might be decent.
@Kim I read the comment before the post and my heart stopped for a second I thought u was talking about the book ??
@Lydia omg! No! The books were amazing!! Tv series has been okay but still a disappointment compared to the books the movie just sucked in a BIG WAY HAHA

@Giulia definitely the best adaptation of a book I’ve seen. Excellent choice!
Hunger games was seriously awful.
Me before you was very good.
Best hunger games the worst was when they made movie’s of nora Roberts book’s my god they ruined the books. I had to read them again because they missed out so much .they need burning the films not the books.
Absolutely Loved the hunger games, the books and the movies
I loved The Beguiled but the 2017 film fell so short for me
The Amber spyglass adaption with Nicole Kidman – could have been so much better, but had the soul ripped out of it. LOTR – really good movie adaption. Although I never want to watch it again! It’s good, but can’t take the sexual tension between Frodo and Sam!
Worst…. Harry potter!
Best….. life of Pi
Captain Corelli’s Mandelin – film had totally different ending!
The Time Traveler’s Wife. Great book, hated the movie and it could have been so very much better. Epic fail.
Best The Green Mile Worst The Beach
The mortal instruments is still one of my all time faves in book form, movie ? they had like young inexperienced actors playing the role of 500 year old vampires and Luke was the wrong color lol I’m not racist by any means but when you describe a 40yo white man for 7 books and then have a 20yo black man step in… ??♀️
The best was hunger games.
The worst is probably 50 shades, the only thing i like in it is how dakota Johnson brought Anatasia to life.
Howard the Duck, but I don’t know where it came from!
You are showing your age! I saw it at a drive in theater. I thought it was funny.
I think there should never have been a film adaptation of the Hobbit. I hate the way so much has being made up
Good :girl with dragon tattoo ,Bridget movies , girl on train ,
Bad …captain Corelli , all films of wuthering heights ( apart from tv series with Tom Hardy )….

@Hailee the ending of the book and movie are completely different! I read the book, then saw the movie. I was so angry!
@Michelle well that settles it, I’m getting the book next time I go to the library. I usually don’t read the book after watching because I already know the ending but now I must read it immediately lol
? ??♀️
I was so annoyed with the ending of the film. The book was brilliant & the film doesn’t do it justice
@Cassandra Agreed!!!
I hated all of the changes they made in “the best of me” by Nicholas Sparks. That is the only movie of his that I was so disappointed with.
I felt that was about dear John
I wasn’t as disappointed with that one, so the book must not have been fresh in my mind but I had just read Best of Me and was so happy to see the film….and it was dumb things, like the sex of her children…and just stuff like that, that I’m like “why did they switch that?”
I loved the movie for Tomorrow when the war began didn’t like the TV show they did for the same book. Wish they would of done another movie for the second book but it was scraped.
Best: midnight in the garden of good and evil.
Best LOTR, Harry Potter and (if you count TV shows) Game of Thrones. Worst Eregon and Percy Jackson.
Disney’s version of Winnie the Pooh was definitely one of the worst … why the heck do the characters have American accents when the books are quintessentially English?
