I was a great fan of TV programme Morse, also Lewis but just can’t get into Endeavour. What are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts?
I absolutely adore the Endeavour TV series.
@Frances I think I could be in the minority. ?
@Susan We are all entitled to our individual opinions on books and on tv programmes. I liked Lewis very much .
@Frances True. I enjoyed Lewis too.
@Susan Never even fancied looking at it. Wasn’t a big Morse fan. Don’t think I ever saw any Lewis. It just doesn’t appeal to me, for some reason.
@Lesley I think you might have enjoyed Morse rather more than Hinterland ?
@Susan That wouldn’t have been hard 😉
I haven’t seen endeavour. Loved Morse and Lewis tho
I find Endeavour a bit hard going I find the plots hard to follow I get on better with Shetland Vera and murders in both paradise and midsummer
I love it.
I completely agree.
I love it too; also loved Morse and Lewis. I’m really looking forward to the new Shetland series.
@Jeanette there’s a new Shetland series? Oooooo, when?
@Clay Tonight. I think it’s on ITV at 9 o’clock.
@Jennie @Clay It is; set to record and then binge watch later!
@Jeanette Sorry, I meant that I’m doing that; not that you have to!
I love it, I love all the references to future Morse, got the new series set up to record, not watched it yet though
I love Endeavour and all the others mentioned except Murder in Paradise, Just can’t get into that at all.
@Jennie Murder in Paradise is not in the same league for me although it wouldn’t do for all of us to think the same, very boring life that would be.
Murder in Paradise was never meant to be taken as serious crime drama 🙂 The 3 lead actors all coming from the comedy arena… 🙂
@Jennie Do you mean Death in Paradise? I quite enjoy it as light entertainment and not especially for the crime aspect
@Susan oops 🙂 but yes, agree. Not its meant to be taken seriously.
If realism was an issue in TV crime Luther would have been pensioned off for his antics B|
@Jennie can’t get into Murder in Paradise nor Midsummer Murder but it would be a boring old world if we all liked the same thing .
I think it’s a case of trying to spin an idea to death/milking it dry. Some of the plots are weak. Colin Dexter wouldn’t have approved.
I was reluctant to watch, at the start, but my husband loved it and encouraged me to give it a try. Am so pleased I did. With very few exceptions, every episode has been excellent, and I have high hopes for the latest series, given the quality of the first episode. Outstanding writing, acting and production.
@Janet so pleased your husband loves you.
@Sheila oops, Freudian slip!
Endeavour is unusual because the real protagonist is the inspector. The opening episode was therefore a bit all over the place because of the storyline. He also comes across as a bit of a smart arse.
I love it. Heard him being interviewed on the radio last week and he has a Liverpudlian accent in ‘real life’! I didn’t watch morse so cant compare the two.
Same. ?. I wasn’t keen on Lewis, but I loved Morse x
I haven’t seen it ? x
I really like it
I haven’t bothered watching the previous series, to be honest it didn’t appeal to me. But I’d just finished a book and couldn’t make up my mind which book to start next, nothing worth watching on the box, except perhaps Endeavour might be worth a view…….I thoroughly enjoyed it be honest, far better than I expected!
I agree. Loved Morse, but was worried that Lewis might not work. Pleased to say I was so wrong on that one. What made Lewis work was the Lewis/Hathaway partnership. Laurence Fox was perfect in it. I tried to get into Endeavour but couldn’t. Not sure why, possibly being set in a different era? Couldn’t replace John Thaw? Anyway, it just wasn’t for me so I know exactly what you mean.
Absolutely adore Endeavour. Loved Morse and Lewis too.
I really enjoy it.
I love it, also Morse & Lewis, they’re eras in TVP that I can relate to. That said, my husband & I do enjoy picking up on the inaccuracies……for instance, in Sunday’s episode of Endeavour he was driving around in an Irish registered panda car?
I love Endeavour, but did not like Inspector Morse or Lewis.
I did struggle with Endeavor at first but love it now.
I really enjoy it, Susan. I think it shows how he matured into a clever Morse, 🙂
Like all Three, Morse, Lewis and Endeavour
Loved Morse and now Endeavour, but could not get into Lewis at all. I liked the character when he as Morse’s sidekick, but not as a boss.
You’ve got to feel for Lewis. He’s a good solid copper – but he was bagman to an academic and then, when he gets into the driving seat, his bagman is a Morse in waiting 🙂
I never liked morse didn’t like the actor he came from crumpsal but was such a snob about it looking down on north Manchester I met him a couple of times but couldn’t like him at all I like endeavour lewis bores me
I liked Morse and Lewis and now Endeavour, am I easily pleased?
Not over keen on endeavour. Loved morse not Lewis
Loved Morse, don’t mind Endeavour, but not Lewis
I really like Endeavour I like the era, liked Lewis and Morse.
Tried it last night- too slow
Positively glacial
And I thought it was only me. Didn’t like it from the beginning.
I love all three.
I’m enjoying Endeavour. Its very an interesting view of society at the time
as in the lack of women?
@Jan not what I was thinking of but there has been an interesting perspective of a talented WPC and the barriers she faces. I was thinking more of the guns. That episode of the shootout shook me cause I don’t remember there ever being guns around
There were guns – more than now I suspect since the firearms regulations.
I don’t think there were any WPCs at all in the recent episode.
I haven’t caught up yet
I really like it, especially Roger Allam – he’s wonderful.
Love them all – Think Shaun Evans as Endeavour is great
Really like Endeavour .
I like Endeavour… But must remember to detach myself a little from the “Morse verse” and allow for artistic license. I am also a huge fan of Roger Allam (who had guest roles in Morse and Lewis) so that probably helps. ?
Brilliant TV, watched the latest episode this morning…
It took me time to warm to Shaun Evans but once I did I found Endeavour a must watch!
Not as big a fan of Endeavour as Morse & Lewis, but I do like the Inspector Thursday character. I have just read the Faith Martin series of books set in 1960’s Oxford featuring WPC Loveday, they were a really good read.
@Avis I like those too. Just that little bit different but then I like most of Faith Martin books.
I’d love to see Hallam playing Maigret!
@Jan yes I agree he would be perfect for the roll. Also he has a lovely voice that would be just great narrating some books
Really like Endeavour. Love the relationship between him and Thursday.
Love Endeavour! Think Shaun Evans has really captured the young Morse. In fact I prefer it to Lewis.
@Joy I feel the same.
I haven’t been keen but I liked this first episode
I like Endeavour.
I like Roger Allam’s Friday character but I seem to be alone in finding Evan’s Endeavour a little irritating.
Don’t like it
Can’t say I blame you. ‘Plodding’ is too good for the first episode. Could have cracked that tale out in an hour, easy.
I think it is excellent and worthy of the Morse mantle. The moment at the end of the pilot episode when a young uncertain Morse looked into the rear view mirror and saw John Thaw look back at him was incredible.
Susan Hunter I’m totally with you – think Morse was brilliant, and Lewis a worthy follow up, but Endeavour just doesn’t cut it ?
@Sue I also didn’t like the Jayne Tennyson prequel. What did you think of that one?
@Susan missed that one!
Exactly the same as you.
It doesn’t appeal to me at all!
Ooh I love Endeavour, I love the little things he does, and it reminds ah…morse did that.
It’s been interesting to see how he became the older version of Morse.
Same only liked Morse
pretty much the same x
I’ve never watched Endeavour, think I was in love with John Thaw and Kevin Whatley. Might have to give it a go.
@Diane you can only try it.Obviously not everyone’s cup of tea ?
@Jennifer will try and find the 1st series and watch with an open mind.
@Diane ???
I love all 3
Only watched one or two morse. Loved Lewis. Also like endeavour
Endeavour is brilliant.
I love Endeavour. Just watched a new episode????
I quite like Endeavour reminds me of wen I was young and healthy ??
I’m the same. Can’t get into Endeavour
me neither.
Same here it doesn’t seem likely that Morse could have matured from him
I really love Endeavour, a close second to Morse, and definitely better than Lewis.
Lewis, Morse and Endeavour drive me nuts and the music is too too too much.
I think it’s brilliant. Better than Morse in some ways.
One of my favourite crime programs. X
Endeavour is the best
Better than Morse for me!
Oh I love Endeavour. All those little nods to Morse – and such a brilliant social history. Wonderfully done.
@Jan The only thing is you know he’s not going to be happy in the end!
Endeavour is very good.
I love them all ?
It took me a few episodes to get into it and now I’m hooked
Great fan of Morse and Lewis and Endeavour is produced to the same very high standard.
Absolutely brilliant.?
I’m a big Morse and Lewis fan….and come from Oxford!! It did take me a little while to get into Endeavour….but now I love it. It explains how Morse’s character develops through time and weaves in the relationships he makes along the way. It shows how he is shaped.
Also a great snap shot in history, culture and values.
I just love it ?
@Rebecca I’m not far from
Oxford so love seeing familiar landmarks.
I’m not keen on Endeavour. He’s OK but tend to dislike most of the other character.
I’m drawing the line when they go back to Morse in middle school… ?
Endeavour is the best x
Love Endeavour, love Shaun Evans! He’s perfect in the role.
I like it. Good to see how it all began.
❤️it
Only just discovered it and we have watched three series in three days. It I great tv
I’ve just watched the 1st series – loved it – moving on to Series 2!
Same here x
I love Lewis but don’t like endeavour
Love them all
I’m not a fan of Endeavour. Although I loved Morse and Lewis.
Love them all!?
Almost prefer Endeavour to Morse. Love Lewis.
I enjoy Endeavour, in part because it is interesting to see how Morse developed as a person and as a police men
@Manuela I watched it quite closely & he does seem to have the expressions on his face that John Thaw had.I wonder if he watched Morse for research.
Jennifer Price I don’t know. But I just enjoy watching it, and the retro aspect of it.
@Manuela I have never seen an episode of Morse but this has piqued my interest
@Gemma in my opinion well worth it. Watched them all when originally broadcast although not since then regularly. Do occasionally fall across them.
I’m with you Susan Hunter
