I see people taking out Harry Potter books. I tried reading it and even tried watching the movie and still I just don’t get it.Am I the the only one?
I see people taking out Harry Potter books. I tried reading it and even tried watching the movie and still I just don’t get it.Am I the the only one?
No, I’m also confused.
What do you mean by taking out Harry Potter novels?
And what don’t you get about the story? Is it that you didn’t like it?
Lol, I mean the books.(My mistake)
Gosh,it’s not that I don’t like it,I just don’t get it,ya know.
No, your not the only one! I’m just as confused about the hype of the series as you are! When HP first came out I got our daughter the first book, then she gradually obtained all the others, she loves them, I just don’t get it!!! LOL…
Not every book is for everyone and they don’t have to be. There are trillions to choose from. ?
Yeah, your right. I was just trying something new,I guess
Never will read them went to Disney world and there is a town based on Harry potter
They do?I wish they had a town based on our favorite book or novel… I’m so jealous of the Harry Potter fans??
It’s at Universal, not Disney.
I wish they had one for twilight and Hungary games
Sorry @Eric
I’m sorry, but I do NOT want to visit a theme park based on the Hunger Games!
There is not a town – there is a section at Universal studio theme park (NOT Disney) that is Harry Potter themed. It is incredible!
Absolutely not the only one so don’t like Harry Potter!
Rowling is a hack.
Lol??
I was told by a co-worker that Harry Potter is literature. Just because you like Harry Potter doesn’t make it literature. Wow. I have not read any of the books and watched the movies with my kids and they had to tell me what was going on all the time.
A work of fiction is literature whether we like it or not. G r e a t literature, may be another matter.
It certainly is literature and billions all over the World love Harry Potter books! Ask yourself if you could pick a story (and a fantastic story) out of your head and become rich??
Children’s stories are rarely considered ‘great literature’ same as the movies made with children in mind. Strictly bedtime stories (or home sick in bed stories) and weekend family movies.
Why so negative? The Harry Potter books are full of imagination and kids love them. I am 68 and I get them. At least they emphasize friendship, imagination, intrigue and magical things rather that staring stupidly at the screens of cell phones, tablets or ipods or the sex, murder and mayhem on movies and television.
I wasn’t too impressed when I, as an adult, read the first one when it came out but I changed my mind. I find JK Rowling’s imagination admirable and the books had my students reading. They grew up with the books; as they got older the novels became darker and more mature. That is something very special to experience and not everyone will have this opportunity, especially now that the series has come to an end and all novels are available at once. The novels were written for teenagers. I think they should be treated as such. They have done wonders for literacy, imagination, coming-of-age, girl power etc.
Besides she is anything but a hack.
No. Not everyone is supposed to like the same things. That’s part of being human.
It took me a couple of tries with the first book to get into the series but once I was in, I was hooked. After I finished, I didn’t know what to do with myself lol
Nope. They bore me to death.
Suffered through the movies. Dropped the book after a page.
I just read my first book and it was good but I doubt I’ll read another one.
Not the only one. I tried the first book but just couldn’t get into it — too much of a kid’s book for me.
Honestly, I didn’t know it was for kids…I guess I’m too grown for this kind of stuff?
It’s a fun series and it’s easy to understand if you start from the beginning. The books explain everything about it.
I used to be a fan of this series. Don’t ask why I quit, because I already explained it and have no desire to again.
Lol??
I love them, read them out loud to my children!
I read the first one. It was alright but i didn’t love it enough to continue reading the whole series. I have seen a few of the movies, but still can’t really see the big deal.
I have read all of these at least 5 times! I also own and watch all the movies! Everyone has different tastes. I do not like romance novels, but many people love them. I’ve tried to read Outlander and never could get through the first book. Thank goodness there are books for everyone of us.
Gosh, you don’t like romance???I guess your right, everyone’s got their taste?
Yeah, I can’t get into them either. I saw the first movie (my husband & I took our oldest daughter, who is a HUGE Harry Potter fan, when it first came out. She was 11.) and I didn’t care for it. My daughter doesn’t understand why I don’t like the books or movies. I tell her I just don’t like them.
When my aunt first gave me the first book at around 14 I couldn’t get into it. Then years later I tried and I loved them.
My gosh you guys y’all are missing out if you don’t read Harry Potter lol I’m 27 and still obsessed with it lol
My mother (she’s 81) loves them. I don’t feel I’m missing out on anything. I’m not into that stuff.
@Christina lol
same, 29yo and still a Potterhead…. always ?
I don’t like it either
I didn’t read it until a couple of years ago and I’m 60ish.I actually like the books more than the movies.
Lol,guys I’m like 15 and I don’t get it at all.I’ve tried guys,I’ve tried…And no matter what I do I still don’t get it? I prefer reading James Patterson’s books
Could be just the types of books you like to read. They’re not for everyone. I feel like if I read them now I would have a different perspective on them. If you stick with a certain genre of books then that could be why, I read pretty much everything and I have to reread the younger books because my kids love them and I enjoy taking trips back to my childhood. Lol
Yep… if you don’t like them, you don’t like them. Don’t try and force them
Rowling is a great storyteller, but she’s not a great writer. That said, the books are fun. But not everyone is going to enjoy them. I didn’t really like any of them until the books became more complex.
I read the first three when they first came out. I really enjoyed them. I haven’t read any of the others but I’ve been thinking about picking them back up again. Haven’t watched any of the movies tho. So I couldn’t tell you what those are like. It’s more for a younger age group.
Absolutely love them. I read them as a 33 year old nursing student with 2 kids and I was still trying to figure out a way into Hogwarts ?
I have no interest in reading them. Watched about 15 minutes of the first movie (only about a week ago because it was on…) and shut it off. Meh.
My mom, who is 70, has read them all like 50 times each, while I have no interest in them at all. To each his own
I read the first one and tried the second. I gave up. Same with trying to read Game of thrones. And I read over 200 books a year
maybe you’re just not into fantasy
I loved the Outlander and Game of Thrones books. I tried but never could get into the Harry Potter books…or the movies.
I loved the. My kids and grandkids love them. But if it’s not for you. It’s ok we love you anyway
no i couldnt read it
I would never read a Harry Potter!! way too boring for my taste
No you are’nt!
Everyone has their own opinions on what they like and dislike. Don’t feel guilty for not liking them or worry about what others think. There are millions of other titles to enjoy♡
lol have you ever tried Zola’s Germinal?or Dangerous liaisons?… that’s boring!… after that, you’ll find HP piece of cake
Wow!!!Really?
oooooooooooh yes! lol
literally nothing happens in pages!… and the language is not simple, there are long sentences,… believe me, HP at least is easy to read
Ooooo???….I didn’t know that, but thanks for the info!!!
No you are not
You are not alone
meh
I tried reading and watching the series but couldn’t because it was to lame
It’s okay to dislike it. I personally loved HP, especially after Voldemort was resurrected in the fourth book. The series became darker. I also find it creative and fun. I think you should give them another try. Just keep reading
Nope
Agreed; they just seem so cheesy.
I believe they’re great for young adults. But I couldn’t get into them either. On the other hand, her other novels are very good.
What are their names?
I’m 75 and I loved them.
I haven’t read the books .. but over Christmas break I finally sat down and watched all 8 movies .. at first I was like whatever this is too childish for me but than it really started getting good and I had to see what was going to happen next
NO I AM SO WITH YOU CAN NOT GET INTO THE MOVIES NOR THE BOOKS.
I loved them. I thought the imagination was outstanding – Rowling invented a sport, and made readers see it. Her characters were very well done.
Every book isn’t for everyone, however, and I’ve loved good children’s books ever since I took kiddie lit in college.
I am sad that there are people who don’t like Harry Potter. But without you guys we would all be the same! So never be ashamed to stand out! ❤️❤️
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
The movies are trash compared to the books. Don’t read what you don’t enjoy!
Well yea the books are always better then the movies but I also loved the movies. I think they did a wonderful job with them
I feel with these movies they left out SO much. Like a crazy amount of stuff.
@Ellen well yea lol they can’t cram everything into the movies from the books but I love the movies and the books I’m a crazy hp fan
Nope I don’t get into that either and I read allot of vampire books but not that.
My kids and I LOVE Harry Potter! I’m a mom to six and all my kids have read the books. This year my youngest 2 (twins) & I have started the series…just reading together. Memories that I will cherish forever. They just want to keep on reading!!
No!!!
i can’t say we’re on the same team there. When they first came out I had absolutely no interest in them but that’s because I HATED to read for leisure. I figured textbooks for school was more than enough. As an adult however i decided to give them a try since I was rather amused by the movies and now i’m hooked on them. I read the second one in less than 2 days. It’s not everyone’s forte though. just like Twilight isn’t everyone’s cup of tea either.
Not the only one. I couldn’t stand the books or movies.
I don’t like Harry Potter at all. Never want to read the books or watch the movies.
Whenever I need a good laugh at Rowling’s expense, I read this:
http://hatrack.com/osc/reviews/everything/2008-04-20.shtml
If you like magic and old wizardry then Harry Potter is a good story. if you don’t then don’t worry, It was meant for a young generation.
I was a Harry Potter fan! All the books and movies. Me and my boys. Was not only for young ones.
I don’t hate harry potter and the books are found in the juvenile section. Even the industry has classified the book in the category. I stopped being interested in Harry Potter before it ended back in 2010. Especially when the onscreen character had to get naked for the audience. I didn’t appreciate that. Now, I stay with Higher Education reads and just recently started studying advanced chemistry. And am paying more attention to Neil DeGrasse’s books.
what, naked? maybe I didn’t watch this, I just don’t remember that
Yes. You are the special one.
Everyone likes different things. I thought they were great.
I’m with ya. Dangerous Liaisons rules!
I AM WITH YOU @Prisca I CAN NOT GET INTO THE BOOKS NOR THE MOVIES. SO I GUESS TO EACH THEIR OWN,
