Looking for ideas for a 12yr old boy to read. He has already read all the Harry Potter books, and is looking for some summer reading. Any ideas??

All great suggestions, Narnia may be just the thing to start with! He’s seen the movies, so I think that will help
Eragon series by Christopher paolini about dragons and riders
Twilight?
believe it or not, he considers the twilight series as “girly books” ??
Well I tried.
Chronicles of nick series by sherrilyn Kenyon

@Megan I wish my 12 and 13 yr old boys would read it. I know they’d love it but since I recommended it to them they want nothing to do with it ?
Redwall! That’s the series that got me totally hooked on reading.
I Survived series
Percy Jackson series JRR Tolkein. My boys also like Orson Scott Card books.
Yes! I forgot about Orson Scott Card — I read Ender’s Game as an adult and wondered why I waited so long.

Percy Jackson, wrinkle in time, a new set of Harry Potter wouldn’t hurt. The divergent series. Catching fire and that series.
I’m 15 and I loved all of those books
Also the Maze Runner series made such a huge great impact on my life. I highly recommend. My favorite series when I was 13
My kids liked the Goosebump books. I’m not sure what age group those are in but it is the only thing I could get them to read

My side of the mountain. Little house on the prairie series. Summer of the Monkeys. Hatchet. Rascal. The Acorn People. Charlottes web, Tom Saywer, Huckleberry Finn, Wizard of OZ just to name a few.
Mice of Men. Hunger games. Lord of the flies.
The golden compass
The Wingfeather Saga.
My son devoured the Harry Potter books & then was disappointed by everything else he tried to read. We finally Last Week found a series that he says is Almost as good. Holly Black & Cassandra Clare’s Magisterium series. The 1st in the series is The Iron Trial. There are 5 books & he read that one in a day. Blood shot eyes from reading but a smile on his face.?
By the way, my son is 11-1/2.
I also read it & loved it.
There are some books by S.J. Kincaid which I can’t remember the titles of, but my nephew liked those too. Also, maybe more geared toward girls, but I think boys can enjoy them too…Colleen Houck’s series. She has a couple now. One is based on Indian mythology and has tiger shifters and the other is based on Egyptian mythology and has mummies.
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, it kicks off into a series of direct sequels that continue to follow Ender (starting with Speaker for the Dead, then Xenocide) and also a couple spin-off series that follow main characters and siblings from the first book. All are quite excellent and immersive.
For more fantasy fare, he might enjoy the Redwall series from Brain Jacques. Wikipedia has a handy list of the books in ‘in universe’ chronological order, as it differs slightly from the actual publishing date order.

THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS by John Bellairs…
I think every young man should read this s great book…

This is a list of modern Caribbean books for teens – Gone to Drift, All Over Again, (my own) Musical Youth, and Children of the Spider have young male protagonists https://wadadlipen.wordpress.com/2018/03/29/barbados-guyana-and-bermuda-finalists-for-2018-burt-award I also have a book called The Boy from Willow Bend which is a coming of age book. My own reluctant reader also liked Littletown Secrets by K Jared Hosein and at least one book in the Caribbean Adventure series by Carol Mitchell . Beyond the Caribbean, books that come to mind are S E Hinton’s The Outsiders, Louis Sachar’s Holes, Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer, William Goldman’s The Princess Bride, a book I’m currently reading Angie Thomas’ The Hate You Give (which is soon coming out in movie form), I think also deals with contemporary issues through a relatable young (female) protagonists’ pov (it’s a bit heavy but no more so I think than the Hunger Games series) – which reminds me, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee – E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web, Scott O’Dell’s Island of the Blue Dolphins. Other popular series I haven’t read but which seem to be popular are the Harry Potter and Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. And like someone upthread said comics are always a good way to go.
Lord of the Rings, Percy Jackson, read Harry Potter again
Ooh and Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel
@Tashy I love all of Kenneth Oppel’s books!
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. They are to this day some of my favorite books!
Get him started on Tom Clancy’s books – my son began reading him at that age with the earliest Jack Ryan books and loved them. Also Michael Crichton – why not Jurassic Park?
Rotters by Daniel Kraus and The Dead Boys by Royce Buckingham are brilliant YA books, with male protagonists.
Don Fendler’s Lost on a a Mountain in Maine.
Thank you All for the suggestions, I have quite the list for the future, We desided to start with the Maze Runner series, then Chronicles of Narnia, and then The Fellowship of the Ring series. (I’m hoping that gets me through Christmas) ?
