We can read them together
I have been waiting to read them
I have only read the first one
@Regan I still need to read the first one. I couldnt get past the first few chapters.
@Kimberly I can read it with you
I have read the first book along time ago
Yes!! The books are so much better than the movies. I’ll admit the first two can be tough if you’re starting them when you’re older (I was 30) because they’re more geared toward kids, but once you hit book 3, it starts taking a turn.
Yes! Though I do sometimes suggest that if you have trouble getting into the first one, start with the 3rd. It’s a little darker and the characters are a little older. This has worked for some folks I’ve recommended it to.
@Nicole I might try that! I normally cant get past the first few chapters of the first book lol.
If I start with the third, will I miss on anything though? Things that were kept out of the movie?
@Kimberly not enough to negatively impact your experience with and enjoyment of the story. IMO, the first two movies were the most similar to the books. You definitely have all the major details you would need if you’ve seen the movies. And if it turns out you enjoy your 3rd and make it through it, you can always go back and try the first one again. I would highly suggest this (whether you do it after you read the 3rd or after you finish the 7th) because the background and some nuances in the first two will help to inform your overall understanding and experience with the story. But, overall, I say whatever gets you to read it ?
If you like audio books at all, you could also try listening to the first one. Jim Dale is an amazing narrator!
I personally think the first 3 aren’t very good. I’d watch the first 3, then read the rest. The first 3 movies follow very closely with the books so you wouldn’t miss mich
@Nicki agreed. 4 is where the movies start to leave a lot out.
Thanks! I’ll try that! I really want to give it a chance
Books are so much better than the films. First two books are slow though. They improve the further along the story you get and arguably nothing really happens until book 4 anyway. The last chapter in book 4 is even called “the beginning” because the main plot kicks off from that point onward. Give it a go. If you liked the films you will enjoy the books I think. So much more detail and the characters are better fleshed out. Book!Ron and book!Ginny are way better than their movie counterparts make them out to be.
If you have a hard time getting into it than you don’t have to read it. A lot of people will tell you “you’re missing out!” But it’s A LOT of books! And it can be overwhelming. I read the first book and loved it but there’s so many other books I want to get into. There is audiobooks that I found on YouTube but the quality isn’t good.
Definitely worth the read! Just get past the first two and you’ll be hooked after #3.
If you have a problem getting in to them listen to them on audio books!! Jim Dale makes the characters come to life!!! You’ll love them!!!
Read them?
@Irene I’ll try!
YES!!!!!!!!!!
Yes!! Books are so good
Yes the books are amazing
Yes u should
Yes !!!!
I think I missed the bandwagon. I didn’t read them when I was younger as I was getting into Lord of the Rings, etc. etc. I’ve tried multiple times to get into Harry Potter and I always dnf the series. I honestly don’t get the hype, but attribute it to the fact I greatly missed the bandwagon :/ I unhauled all my HP books a few days ago too.
Try the first book on audible.
yes yes yes
I’ve read the books and then saw movies, which was some “ok”, some “good”, but “Prisoner of Azkaban” as a movie sucked big time, book on the other hand was simply “wow”, there was sooo many things about Voldemort, significant to his character development and pre-history, I was extremely disappointed none of it was screened
I couldn’t read the books either. The audiobooks are amazing though!
@Julie I’ve never tried audio books. I might need to!
@Julie I’ve heard great reviews of the audio books! I’ve been meaning to get them for a while now!
Do the audios! Omg the books are 1000x better than the movies! Im on goblet of fire now, plus jim dale does an amazing job narrating!
Read them!!
The books were amazing. Nothin against the first 2, but Prisoner of Azkaban is where it really begins to get serious and much better.
I’m reading them now.. starting the prisoner of azkaban
I read the first two books and I loved them but after watching and loving all the movies I never felt the need to read the rest of the books.
The first book is hard at first, about halfway it gets interesting.
Maybe start with the second first.
The movies miss soooo much.
The books are worth the read for the smaller details that didn’t make it into the movies (saw the movies first after not being able to get into the first book initially), but there are bits that you kind of tune out because of how similar they are to the movies – just my personal experience. Honestly worth reading for the Goblet of Fire alone, it was definitely my favourite!
I mean, the books are so much better.
As a kid they were so good but i feel like now that im in my twenties my favorites are from Goblet of fire and on? the ones before could put me to sleep lol great now i sound old?
When they came out I was in my late teens early 20’s. I loved them and read them over and over again. Now I’m not interested at all anymore. ??♀️
Read the illustrated editions
Know that feel. Finally got through the first one last year, after many attempts in the span of like 5 years. Now I’m stuck on the second one since like summer haha
They get better and better the more you get into the series and also the audiobooks are fantastic if you like audiobooks!!
Audiobooks
Meh. Don’t so it. I’m halfway through Book 2 with my daughter. Dont understand the hype. There are so much better books out there.
Read read read read them! 4 is the best book!
I didn’t like the first book either until I got to the second book and so on
I loved the books and my mom loved the movies she didnt care for the books bc as she said there were to many ‘non words’ in the books
