I read the books just this year and then watched the films after and the films are awful!! They miss out SO much detail! I’m sure if you haven’t read the books they are good but the books have so much depth they’re incredible
I love the films but there is no comparison, so much more depth, detail and back story in the books. They are some of the very few books that will re-read
They are both great in their own ways. My 6 year old has just finished the third book and was able to recognise the differences between the book and the movie which is good
So much better. I don’t really get why people who’ve only seen the films like them so much. The books are richer in detail, much more colourful and a lot, lot funnier.
Books are so detailed and you can use your own imagination! Films are Really Very Good and add that bit of magical sparkle! I love them both! Glad I read the books first though. xx
Yes. You don’t get into anyone’s mindset by watching a film. It leaves out so much detail and Harry’s inner torment and emotions. If that’s something you’re not bothered about then watch the films but for me they’ll never beat the books.
In the case of book 5 I’d actually say the film was better. Book 5 is necessary but there’s so much setting up of plot, and the film dispensed with that and streamlined it. But on the whole the books are way better!
Yes. The films bring a different dimension and the special effects are great, but what I can imagine is fantastic and, as a teacher said, you’re acquiring vocabulary without even noticing.
No comparison. I love the films but the books are so much better xx
Absolutely!!!!!!!!
No, these are a rare example of the films being as good as the books
Yes I have never been able to get into the films
You must read the books!
yes most definitely?

Absolutely, by a long way!
Both brilliant
One of the few series that I reread regularly x
Thank you all! Going to download them on my kindle xx
Yes. Definitely Yes. More information. Story hangs together better and you can understand the characters better. I have them on audible.
They are both great in their own ways. My 6 year old has just finished the third book and was able to recognise the differences between the book and the movie which is good

Yes a million percent better
I’ve read the books multiple times but never seen the films. I don’t want the magic to be ruined by films that don’t live up to my expectations!
God, yes.
Daniel Radcliffe can’t act for starters.
@Rachael ? ???
@Laura The words ‘wooden’ springs to mind ?
@Rachael that’s so mean and so true, poor Daniel but I don’t think him or his bank manager care

Pretty much all books are better than the films adapted from them!
So much better. I don’t really get why people who’ve only seen the films like them so much. The books are richer in detail, much more colourful and a lot, lot funnier.

Yes. The films obviously had to leave tons of stuff out so whilst enjoyable, the books are much better to get stuck into x
The films are amazing but the books are brilliant. I’ve read them over and over again.
Yes!
Yes. But let me ask you this.. Is there a movie out there better than the book its based on?
@Samantha the movie P.S I Love You was better than the book ?
@Wendy I felt it was just about equal. That is a good one though.
Whole other thread that! Haha
By a million miles the books are better 🙂
Without a doubt
In the case of book 5 I’d actually say the film was better. Book 5 is necessary but there’s so much setting up of plot, and the film dispensed with that and streamlined it. But on the whole the books are way better!

Books are way better! X
Absolutely!
Yes yes and yes
Yes! But i still think the movies are very enjoyable and worth watching to see it all brought to life ?
Which book isn’t ? There is always a lot left out in movies.
Books got better and better, but for me the earlier films with the cast as young children had a magic lost when they grew up.
Way better but then I read them first and your own imagination is always better than someone else’s ?
I’m just about to start book 4 (for the first time) and having a movie binge over Christmas. Books are always better.
They are about 1000x better. I’m reading them to my 8 year old each night. I’m so happy she’s finally into HP!!
Yes 100% better! Don’t get me wrong though; I still loved the films but books are brilliant
One million times better!
Yep!
