At the kindergarten I worked at the kids started reading the illustrated books right around age 5 to 6. So, it’s up to your judgment, whether he’s ready or not.

I started reading them to my son off and on as his interest fluctuated when he was in Kindergarten. Some days he’s really into it and others he wants to read captain underpants lol just test it out and if he seems into it go for it just know he might change his mind and you may not end up reading it every night.

Bug is 6. Started HP1 when he was 5. Still not done, but that’s my fault. I’d rather read for myself. Lol

Around age 7 or 8, I tried to read him the illustrated ones. He lost interest pretty fast, I think because of the long chapters. But! Later that year he got the audio books from the library and devoured the first 4. 😀

Mine is two and always tries to get my books and so I read to them at night. And I get those picture books with words in them to help her learn the words. I’m hoping she will be a bookworm like me.

The first one came out out less than a year after I was born and I don’t remember a time where I hadn’t read Harry Potter so I must’ve been about 2 or 3 years old 🙂
