I need a good old fashioned ghost story
Anything M.R. James. But especially Whistle and I’ll Come to You. Henry James The Turn of the Screw.
Not necessarily a ghost story, but still spooky and a surprise ending, for me anyway. Totally unexpected. Short story called Circumstance by Harriet Elizabeth Prescott Spofford.
Definitely Turn of the Screw!
Peter Straub “Ghost Story”
The Woman in Black
The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon.
Loved this book!
Omg LOVED this one!!
“The Last to See Me” by M. Dressler. My book group really enjoyed it. Its set in northern Cal. There’s some info about life in the eighteen hundreds. And much about the lower and upper classes.I don’t often read ghost stories, so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
The Canterville Ghost, Oscar Wilde more fun and emotional than spooky or scary
Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill
Loved this book too!
Great story line but the ending idk
A little weird thing that i know a fact about joe hill he is son of stephen king.. if you yall didnt know lol
I’m currently reading this, I’m about halfway through. I love it so far!
@Ann Deadwood Series!!
The Stopped Heart by Julie Myerson
The Thirteenth Tale
Ghost Story by Peter Straub
Dracula try reading that
Try Second Glance by Jodi Picoult.. It’s a love story, a ghost story, and a murder mystery..
I just read The Family Plot by Cherie Priest and it was a good ghost/haunted house story!
The Woman in Black (watching the movies don’t count, that book is scary af)
I’ve got two old fashioned ghost stories for you. Both excellent. The Diviners by Libba Bray is very scary. And the Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson is creepy and scary. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9802372-the-name-of-the-star
“The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson
Nora Robert, In the Garden series, 3 books (blue daliah, red lily, black rose) each reveal a little more about the ghost… one of my favorite spooky but good solid story lines…
The Turn of the Screw
The Woman in the Woods, John Connolly. Just finished this. It has a ghost but I would describe it as a semi supernatural story not s traditional ghost story.
Just downloaded! Thanks for your recommendation.❤️????
@Deborah you will never look at a toy telephone the same way. Mors is the creepiest character I ever read, not even in Stephen King.
Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
One of my favorite books!
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
~Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill ~Ghost Story by Peter Straub ~13th Tale by Diane Setterfield ~I Remember You:A Ghost Story by Yrsa Sigurdardottir
I enjoyed 13th tale.
