An amazing book by Josh Mallerman that I read twice and a mostly decent movie. If you will read the book then watch the movie there is enough similarities but equally as many differences that should have stayed true to the book to make the movie better. They didn’t find birds at a grocery store supply run. They found them as well as dogs while looting houses for supplies and the birds in the box were able to warn them of the “things ” close by. Sort of like a canary in a coal mine warning of low oxygen levels to miners
I actually thought the movie was great. It was like a mix of The Happening (but not stupid), mixed with A Quiet Place. It definitely has A Quiet Place tone. It’s also a book first, though I haven’t read it yet.
It’s a movie. A suspense thriller. If you’ve seen A Quiet Place starred by Emily Blunt, it’s somehow similar to. The only difference is, you cannot see the unseen (the gist somehow like that) .
Its a movie on Netflix. The birds are symbolic in the movie as they are sensitive to danger. Here is what the movie is about When a mysterious force decimates the population, only one thing is certain — if you see it, you die. The survivors must now avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears. Searching for hope and a new beginning, a woman and her children embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary. To make it, they’ll have to cover their eyes from the evil that chases them — and complete the trip blindfolded. I saw it last night and really enjoyed it. It is an edge of your seat kinda movie. Loved the ending.
@Jaron Thank you so much for sharing this! I have not read the Harry Potter Series of books and I know I should. This is very interesting and I love it!!! I have to admit that the only thing I could think of was the word Bogart, which spelled differently slang meaning means to hogging something to yourself. It was sung in the movie Easy Rider, and I believe that the band Little Feet also sang a version of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N0IjBgyFoE
It’s a story about a strange (alien) being that if you look at it, it knows your worst fear and manifests that fear ending up killing you. Hence the blindfolds. Danger stops when you reach the ‘goal’.
@Nish , yes. In my opinion, the movie was better than the book. It gave the story the life the book failed to give it. The book was in my top 5 most disappointing reads this year.
@Sharon I think it’s one of those love it or hate it situations. Everyone was saying great things about the book so I read it but i was disappointed. I thought the movie was actually better.
I loved the book–couldnt put it down, had to finish in one sitting. Yes, the ending was kind of a let down, but in retrospect, I think pretty much any ending would have been after that intense a ride. But I can totally see how it’s a love it or hate it
If you wanted to know how people liked it then you could have asked that way, your question implied that you have no clue what you were asking about making you look like a troll. Oh, and, let me congratulate you for knowing about Google.
And I thank you for your sweet notion! And I didn’t ask your opinion but let me tell you the majority did answered my question with sweet and kind said their opinion and told me what it is About! But you have be miss knowing all to tell others there is something called google! And thank you for congratulating me for knowing google too Have a wonderful day
@Kandace, I watched the movie last night. I too was disappointed. I liked it in that it started good, I felt it was very good to keep the suspense alive and keep you watching, always in hope and expectation of something more to it that is coming but never came. It got to the end and was like… What?? What was that!?? Then, I felt it was a movie about people seeing something (we never really find out what), some people can handle it and live, others they see it and die (again we have no idea who or why or how), everyone else dies, she passes a river with the two kids, and ends up in a place (where?) a blind school? a camp where some have survived and that whatever thing can’t be seen or affect them? and the birds’ only purpose other than the title was to be known as knowing when the whatever is around but not seen or heard in any other way until they’re freed from a box who lived in and pass the river how? and ate what? And it was supposed to be a dog and a cat that we never saw, but assume they also died? To me ended up been a movie that had a very long unresolved beginning… I’m still waiting for the middle and end ?
@Kandace, Oh I haven’t read the book but if the book was a disappointment I can imagine how worse the movie must have been! I just happened to fall upon it on Netflix last night and it seemed interesting, until the end… I was still waiting for the middle part when it ended ?
I think the author/film writer started it but forgot to continue. He has a very good introduction though. I’ll give them that. If it was an essay would be “F minus. unable to grade. Great hook and intro! Next time keep going! You need 4 more paragraphs ?
@Louiza lol right! I thought the book started out great but it fizzled out quick..a lot of people loved. If u didnt like the movie then def don’t read the book. I’m not even going to waste my time watching the movie. But a lot of people loved both…I guess me and u think a lot alike..?
I haven’t read or watched Outlander so I don’t even know what is about. It doesn’t look too appealing to me. At the moment I read Joan Didion’s works (Brilliant!), My Emily Dickinson by Suzan Howe, Frankenstein in Afganistan by Iraqi author Ahmed Saadawi, and Demons by Dostoyevsky, so not sure Oulanders will be my type of book along these styles. Maybe one day… A friend just recommended a suspense movie A Quiet Place. We’ll be watching it sometime soon. I hope is better than Bird Box.
@Louiza everyone just really likes em books and I can’t get into em. The best books I have read this year are 11/22/63 and The Nightingale. I bought sooo many new books lately that I don’t know what I’m going to read but think I may start with A Court of Thorns and Roses…
@Louiza 11/22/63 is by Stephen King bout a man who goes back in time to stop the assassination of JFK and The Nightgale bout two sisters living back when Hilter was taking over and war. Those aren’t even my typical reads but heard people going on n on how good they were and I was hooked when I read em…sooo GOOD
@Kandace, I have only read the misery from fiction by Stephen King and I liked most of it. I skipped some tedious parts, but it was good, not my normal read, but good. I have read the non-fiction On Writing by Stephen King and it is worth reading I think. I think I’ll be interested in reading The Nightingale — I love war books, especially WWII themes.
@Louiza The Nightingale is the only book to make me do the ugly cry…but it’s soo good. 11/22/63 isn’t scary at all but it’s my absolute Favorite! I plan on reading it again one of these days but it’s over 1,000 pages…
@Kandace, absolutely! Ok. And now I got what “em” mean. It’s short for “them” right? I thought maybe it stand for some type of book abbreviation as in EMotional type of book or something like it ?. PS. I’m fluent in English now but English is not my first language and I only have 2 yrs Jr College credits worth of English education, the rest is self-taught so some things might still escape me.
@Kandace, it was a nice conversation with you and I’ll be back here to tell you about the books you mentioned as soon as I get to read them. So I’m going to try to finish fast the ones I’m currently reading ?
A terrible movie
@Katy it’s a movie?!
@Levi on Netflix
aha! Thank you so much
Yes it is a terrible movie. I made the mistake of watching it before I even read the book
great movie!
A great movie with loads of suspense which stars Sandra Bullock who id actually so good in it
Novel by Josh Malerman turned into a Netflix movie starring Sandra Bullock
I liked this movie!!!
Really good movie
I think the book is better but Sandra Bullock did a great job in the movie.
It’s the happening with Sandra Bullock.
The Netflix movie had so much missing information, it was ridiculous. Yes, it had the suspense factor, for sure, but not a fan of it at all
An amazing book by Josh Mallerman that I read twice and a mostly decent movie. I watched this last night very good movie now I’m going to read the book next ?
I actually thought the movie was great. It was like a mix of The Happening (but not stupid), mixed with A Quiet Place. It definitely has A Quiet Place tone. It’s also a book first, though I haven’t read it yet.
A quiet place, but with sight instead of hearing.
i said the same thing!
A book that literally everyone is reading. What I just said is false. Never read the book. Not in my TBR.
Hello @Levi I remember you. Do you remember me? I have good long term memory but no short term memory at all.
Oh yeah. Now I remember. You’re 33 and you like spoilers.
@Sumaya i remember you kiddo but I’m 31
An extremely overrated movie.
So it’s a book the turned to a movie! I got it!!
A great movie. 🙂
It’s a movie. A suspense thriller. If you’ve seen A Quiet Place starred by Emily Blunt, it’s somehow similar to. The only difference is, you cannot see the unseen (the gist somehow like that) .
@Candymint no I haven’t so I should watch Emily’s movie then this one
@Levi You can 🙂 And also, maybe there are a lot of critics of this movie because they compared it to Emily’s movie. 🙂
@Candymint i will check on both thank you so much dear
You’re welcome. Enjoy watching it! 🙂
So many opinions! ? This thread is cracking me up!!
I want Sandra Bullock to marry him in real life
@Robert to marry who?
Her love interest in the movie
@Robert aha! I need to watch it
They basically were for the entire time the kids grew up.
I want that for her in real life
@Robert They are super cute together.
I know she’s been hurt bad in the pass. I’d like to see her with a young, strong, handsome guy that will treat her and her children right.
A great book and now a good movie.
Some movie on Netflix. It doesn’t look that interesting to me.
A book and now it’s a movie on netflix
Google or any other user friendly search engine should give you the answer and more.
A box with some birds in it. ???? Sorry. Not. Sorry
@Victoria ???
@Levi it’s not untrue though. Xx
@Victoria I know but it was so funny thank you for making me laugh ❤️❤️

It’s a great book they turned into a corny movie! ??
A shit book and good movie lol
It’s a box that, if you set it outdoors, birds will come nest in it.
Book and movie, birds in a box.
It’s like a shoebox
A great book and now a Neflix movie with Sandra Bullock.
I have no idea
With all the hype I’ll be sure to pass
Not that great of a movie
It’s a story about a strange (alien) being that if you look at it, it knows your worst fear and manifests that fear ending up killing you. Hence the blindfolds. Danger stops when you reach the ‘goal’.
@Judy
So, . . . it is that thing Professor Lupin kept in his trunk? ?
@Priscilla did not read book. Reviews and synopses not the detailed.
I didn’t know it was a book until after I watched the movie, and I actually enjoyed it from start to finish.
A case where the movie is better than the book. ?
@Maria wow seriously.?
@Nish , yes. In my opinion, the movie was better than the book. It gave the story the life the book failed to give it. The book was in my top 5 most disappointing reads this year.
A movie on Netflix.. that’s what I know!!
Watch the movie on Netflix and you’ll know!
An alarm

So, how is the book?
@Sharon I think it’s one of those love it or hate it situations. Everyone was saying great things about the book so I read it but i was disappointed. I thought the movie was actually better.
I loved the book–couldnt put it down, had to finish in one sitting. Yes, the ending was kind of a let down, but in retrospect, I think pretty much any ending would have been after that intense a ride. But I can totally see how it’s a love it or hate it
You couldn’t have googled that?
Yes in the olden days we all asked friends , not a corporation , and we could ask as many friends as we wanted .?
If you wanted to know how people liked it then you could have asked that way, your question implied that you have no clue what you were asking about making you look like a troll. Oh, and, let me congratulate you for knowing about Google.

Following. I have no idea.
I didn’t care for it all..was so disappointed in it but I know a lot of people who loved it…
@Kandace, I watched the movie last night. I too was disappointed. @Louiza I agree! There was sooo many questions with no answers. I haven’t watched the movie yet but the book was def a disappointment for me..
@Kandace, Oh I haven’t read the book but if the book was a disappointment I can imagine how worse the movie must have been! I just happened to fall upon it on Netflix last night and it seemed interesting, until the end… I was still waiting for the middle part when it ended ?

@Kandace, I think I’d like to hear from the people they love it. Maybe they can continue writing it for us? ?
@Louiza haha hmmm ?..maybe give us a hint at least what happened at the end..??♀️
@Kandace Yes! And where is the middle parts I missed in the movie ? ✍
@Louiza lol totally agreed! And another one a lot of people like is Outlander. I can’t even understand the dialect…?
I haven’t read or watched Outlander so I don’t even know what is about. It doesn’t look too appealing to me. @Louiza 11/22/63 is a tv series too…bout 10 episodes. They are almost as good as the book. Let me know what u think when ya read em!!
@Kandace, absolutely! Ok. And now I got what “em” mean. It’s short for “them” right? I thought maybe it stand for some type of book abbreviation as in EMotional type of book or something like it ?.
