I liked it, I was tense reading some parts. I thought the premise was so interesting. I was fine with not being given a reason for the creature’s effect on humans.
I really enjoyed it, as a page-turner. Thought it was tense and I liked the concept. I didn’t mind so much about not being given an explanation, but I felt like the writer just didn’t know where to go with it after a certain point and was just like, “aaaannnd, the end.” So that was very disappointing after the effective tension all the way through.
I liked it. I will say it wasn’t scary, but I was genuinely creeped out and on edge during the attic scene. And the ending was a little underwhelming, but there were things I liked about it.
The subject matter was interesting, but the ending wasn’t. Also, I wanted more information on the “creatures.” I’m still thinking about it, so maybe it was better than I realize.
Netflix is apparently going to try. Idk how that works though because part of the reason Bird Box is scary is not knowing what is out there. I can only assume they’ll focus on the flashbacks and try to create an atmosphere of tension when characters leave the house. But again the book is only unsettling bc you think of being out in the world with a blindfold and not knowing what could be in front of or behind you ??♀️
I ageee. Part of what I found so tense wasn’t only the fact that you couldn’t see, but that you COULD, if you wanted to — you could take that blindfold off and satisfy your curiosity anytime you wanted. But only at the cost of your life and possibly others’. The temptation would be huge, and devastating.
@Katie At one point I did imagine an ending where Malorie went crazy and took the children’s blindfolds off and then hers and then the book just ended and you were left to wonder what she saw, if anything.
I thought the ending was underwhelming, but at the same time I don’t know how else you end it. I wanted Malorie to have something of a “happy ending,” so I guess finding other people fulfilled that wish. But at the same time, I think the book would’ve been more unsettling if she had arrived to her destination and found no one. I was half wishing that she would see a creature when she had to take off the blindfold and maybe we would finally know what it looked like.
I had heard several people say it was super scary, which is what got me interested. After I first started it, many people said it wasn’t so much scary, as tense, which is a much better description. Honestly, I liked it, just felt a bit let down at the end, like the author just ran out of steam, or didn’t plot that far ahead and just stopped. Sequel maybe? I’m not a person who needs everything tied up neatly in a bow at the end — I dig an F’ed up ending as much as the next guy. But this just felt unfinished, as though even the writer didn’t really know what should happen next, and just penned what he felt was a thought- provoking final sentence and was like, “OK, cool.” Overall, though, it did keep me reading and turning pages into the night, and I’m still talking about it, so I’d give it a thumbs up. Beats the shit out of Little Fires Everywhere, which I read right before it and couldn’t stand.
I enjoyed it because it caught my attention from the first page (I’ve been in a reading rut). I agree with others that the end was underwhelming. The open-endedness is good because it will keep you wondering “why?” after you’ve finished. But the ending for the characters involved is kind of…meh. Other people said they feel like the author gave up and I feel that way as well. The ending was somewhat of a let down but I would still recommend the book to others.
I thought it was interesting but the ending was disappointing
I loved it up until the end when we weren’t given a reason for it all.
Exactly. I didn’t think it was that scary either. Creepy? yeah. I wanted more to the story lol
Read a while back. Loved it
It wasn’t scary. I thought it was OK, interesting even, but so over-hyped. And I hated the ending.

Meh. It was hyped as scary but I thought it was suspenseful at best.
it was good but the ending had me disappointed
Warning ⚠️ Minor Spoilers below…

I couldn’t put it down but like others, I was very disappointed with the ending. Let down.
Can you see this being turned into a movie? I just didn’t think there was enough to do that with this book

Exactly. My boyfriend and I were talking about it and I said the same thing.
@Katie I’ll definitely check it out, but I think it will be a suspense drama movie at best.

Uh oh, that’s sort of a spoiler. I was hoping people could discuss this book and not tell everyone how it ended.
Disappointed
Meh. Really good idea, and well executed, but not as scary as I’d hoped given what I’d heard.

Exactly how I felt. I liked it but I kept waiting for it to be scary. And the scary never materialized. But I was on the edge of my seat
I haven’t read it yet
It’s was good, but not really scary as people said. I also hated the ending. It was like ok & this is it ?
I agree. I felt like the author wasn’t sure where to go from there so he just ended it.
It would be nice if there was a 2nd book that explains what Happened like in the beginning. You know what I mean ?
It creeped me out. Not sure about spoilers but a fear of mine-not being able to see what’s coming!
