Somebody lent me the first book, and then I bought that AND the rest as bundles. Perhaps that’s a bit much, if your’e not sure you’ll like it.

Too much sex for me. I know you are thinking what a prude, well I own that!!!

Jennifer

There’s sex but it’s so subtle, every time someone says this makes me cringe because you are missing on this amazing story just because sex is alluded to. There’s no specific, graphic details of anything. Now the show is a different story, but the books are harmless when it comes to that.

I couldn’t get through the first chapter. To be fair, i might not have been in the mood for it.

1
Jade

really? Maybe i’ll try again, i’ve seen some say that it does well as audible as well.

1
Catherine

Haven’t tried the audio so I couldn’t say, but that’s because I can’t listen to audio, as I need to see the words to take it in. But have heard good things it

You will love it! I think there are 8 books out now and the next one will probably be out in a year. It usually takes her 3 years to write a book. Diana Gabaldon does great research for her books. The books are better than the series because there is so much important detail. Don’t get me wrong, I love the TV series also, but it makes so much more sense if you have already read the book.

First book was magic. Second book I couldn’t choke down. ALL of my friends said to brave it but I just didn’t have it in me.

I’m in the midst of it now. It’s slow going at first but still well written. I have a hard time sometimes reading 1st person for some reason. Probably the years of reading almost all 3rd person books lol

1
Reply
Catherine

In the later books it’s 3rd person. It’s only Claire bits that are 1st person

2
Emily

It’s pretty good, but I started to get bored by the 3rd or 4th book. There are a lot of them! The series on Starz however, is great! Jamie Fraser is very sexy and there is good chemistry between him and Claire. I’d recommend skipping the books and going for the TV series, and I don’t often say that!

All I have to say is what u just said is heresy!!!! She will never get the full, true story by watching the show. There’s so much missing and with it so many meaningful behind the scenes

1
Emily

@Jennifer Heresy huh? Sounds like you want to try me as a witch just like Claire! Just my opinion, didn’t love the series and BTW, I’m from Scotland!

1
Jennifer

@Emily it was meant as a joke, as with everything it can’t appeal to everybody but I just think if she’s gonna give it a try she should try the books for the reasons I mentioned above, so much is missing from the show. Btw would love to visit Scotland, was in London last month, hopefully next time.
