Years ago, I read the first book and didn’t care much for it. Recently I’ve had so many friends say how much they like the series, that I re-read Outlander and am now starting on the second book. I’m hooked.
Same here. Not that I don’t mind a little delish naughty, but there was way too much T & A all mixed up with a heavy dose of violence that detracted from the storyline big time. Just my opinion. Glad others enjoy the stories.
Hi Christine! Try it out. I really liked the first 3 books. I don’t generally enjoy these sort of stories but I really liked these. Let us know what you decide.
I’ve gotten to The Fiery Cross but I’m having to take a break from the series. I love the book just need a change. Everyone’s opinion is their own, while this person mightn’t like it you might. Everyone told me to read Game Of Thorns… Everyone loves it but it bored me to bits.
Yes. I’ve read book 1 and 2. And got a quarter way through book 3. Then ended up putting it down to start another book. They are good. Just super long to read because of the 1000 pages. I wanna keep reading shortly cause Diana Gabaldon herself told me to read bit by bit.
Love the books, totally worth reading. I admit I’m not too fond of her writing style DG is a little too wordy but the story is fantastic. It really makes you feel for the characters and get invested in them. I’m very excited about book 9 coming out this year.
I really enjoyed the first one and then didn’t go any further – just had read as much as I wanted to. But the first one is definiately worth the read! You might decide to read them all!
This is Rose, read it twice. Loved it. I would read it after a really hard day at work and it literally would take me to a different world..very relaxing…
I loved them all! I’m more of a historical fiction reader than romance but I enjoyed them! I always look for her books at the library sale but haven’t found one yet❗️
I have not read the books, probably not something I’d ever pick up BUT the tv series….I’m addicted, I’ve done almost 4 seasons in 11 days. Warning: sex and language and graphic brutality. Not something I’d normally watch either.
First novel in the series is definitely worth the read. I couldn’t get into the subsequent books, but that’s just me. My sister and her friends formed something of a book-buying co-op and shared all the books among themselves.
I really dislike romance novels, but I loved this series. I found the first book hard to get into and almost gave up after the first 100 pages, but soooo glad I stuck with it. Although – I will admit I have not cared for the last couple of books in the series.
Wow, I never knew anyone who disliked the book(s). They are among just a few that I’ve ever rated 5 stars. As always, the filmed version is fun but nowhere close to as good as the books.
And please note, they are NOT romance novels. There is plenty of romantic stuff, but they are historical fiction with a lot of plot/action/information/intrigue/etc. Years ago there were tons of us physically moving the books from the Romance section of B&N to the Literary Fiction section. They finally took the hint and that’s where you will find them now. 🙂
I don’t care much for the author, and her books are very problematic. I read the first book, decided that the author wasn’t for me and have since moved onto far better authors that are much more deserving of my time.
I have read all the books including the novella’s about Lord John etc. They are amazing and obviously timeless as Diana wrote them over 20 years ago and even more popular now. There are a few dry bits in the 2nd or 3rd (can’t remember) but they are necessary to understand the whole story! Loved every minute of them. I kind of wish I never saw the show because even though it’s amazing, I can never go back to the image I had created of Jamie & Claire and the other characters in my mind.
I listen to lord john got it at the good will and I liked it allot, didnt; realize what it was till the characters began to give me hints it was like omgosh this highlander hahahhha
Had trouble getting into the 1st book, opted to watch the 1st season….bad idea….too rough & explicit for me!! I read for enjoyment & there was none in that!!
I just finshed reading outlander. In my opinion it is worth the read. took me just over a month to read but worth it. Im onto the second book drangnfly in amber
Totally worth it. Wonderful story lines, fabulous character development. I can get lost in her books and read for hours not even realizing it. Outlander series is my go to if I’m in a reading slump.
Not
I havent read it yet, but it looks interesting
Eh not really
YES!!!! SO worth it
Yes
So much yes!!!
Yes!!
No
I liked it… didn’t love it
First book yes. Other books no.
I totally agree with this. I enjoyed the first book but couldn’t finish the second. I lost interest.
I didn’t enjoy book 1. Been quite a while since a book put me to sleep when I wasn’t tired ??♀️
Tried but couldn’t get into it.
I’m finishing book 3 right now – enjoy them. I find the story engaging.
I loved books 1-3 but, honestly, I would stop there.
My thoughts too.
Years ago, I read the first book and didn’t care much for it. Recently I’ve had so many friends say how much they like the series, that I re-read Outlander and am now starting on the second book. I’m hooked.
Yes, if you like very long detailed books. I love the Outlander series.
I loved the first and 2nd book.
Tried to get thru book 1 and couldn’t make it. I’m not typically a book quitter but it wasn’t happening.
Loved the whole series
The first one was, I thought, a high quality bodice ripper. I haven’t read the others.
same here
Yes! Currently re-reading the whole series again ?
Yep! I love it all ???
To me, it’s not an easy read. I read the first 3 but struggled to get through them.
I’ve gotten to The Fiery Cross but I’m having to take a break from the series. I love the book just need a change. Everyone’s opinion is their own, while this person mightn’t like it you might. Everyone told me to read Game Of Thorns… Everyone loves it but it bored me to bits.
I couldn’t get into it. Threw in the hat fairly early

@Alicia so much happens in Voyager after Claire returns that I couldn’t put it down. The first half of the book was slow and hard to read.

Love the books, totally worth reading. I admit I’m not too fond of her writing style DG is a little too wordy but the story is fantastic. It really makes you feel for the characters and get invested in them. I’m very excited about book 9 coming out this year.
I love her wordy writing. Looking forward to#9
@Donna it’s just that I have ADD and brain fog so sometimes it’s hard for me to stay focused. I’m still totally obsessed though.
I’m only 8 chapters into the first book and I’m already completely consumed!! I say yes!! Go for it!
Absolutely worth the read… no doubt
Loved them, especially if you like any kind of historical fiction!
I usually love historical fiction….especially time travel….I don’t know why but I just couldn’t get into them. I vote no
barely read few chapters of book #2 and drop it …
Love love the series!!
I really enjoyed the first one and then didn’t go any further – just had read as much as I wanted to. But the first one is definiately worth the read! You might decide to read them all!

Tried the first one. It is the only book I have ever DNF’d.
I liked it. Took me almost a week to read and I read fast normally. ?

This is Rose, read it twice. Loved it. I would read it after a really hard day at work and it literally would take me to a different world..very relaxing…
Yes!!! Loved the series but I remember the first book being a little slow to get going in the beginning. But after that loved every second.
I loved them all! I’m more of a historical fiction reader than romance but I enjoyed them! I always look for her books at the library sale but haven’t found one yet❗️
Yes!!!!!
I found it to be more historical romance than I like….it was ok
I may be the only person who didn’t like this book ?
I have not read the books, probably not something I’d ever pick up BUT the tv series….I’m addicted, I’ve done almost 4 seasons in 11 days. Warning: sex and language and graphic brutality. Not something I’d normally watch either.
I throughly enjoyed the entire series. So, yes.

First novel in the series is definitely worth the read. I couldn’t get into the subsequent books, but that’s just me. My sister and her friends formed something of a book-buying co-op and shared all the books among themselves.

Very worth it, then you can watch all the seasons on Starz! LOL
I bought the set of the first five books, but I haven’t started yet.
@Ryan, I was the same way, no way will I like historical romance novels, I loved the first one, and couldn’t wait until the next one…no regrets.
I loved it! I read the whole series (much better that the TV version too)
Wow, I never knew anyone who disliked the book(s). They are among just a few that I’ve ever rated 5 stars. As always, the filmed version is fun but nowhere close to as good as the books.

Erm, historical fiction is a bit of a stretch. These books are more science fiction with history hidden inside.
yes, that too! So many layers- it just sings to me.
Yes❤️
Wonderful series, yes.
Loved it!❤️
