Great mix of history, romance, sex, adventure. Its a big 8 book commitment! You will for sure want to keep going most likely. The characters are unforgettable and you just get swept up in the the story.
Read the first book when first published and titled Cross Stitch. Started to read the second but got fed up and havent read any since ir seen tv series.
I’m a lover. Though I will admit there are bits that I find a little hard to get through, but its worth it. The earlier books are the best. Warning! She plants so mighty frustrating cliff hangers in some of those books. I don’t remember which one, but was almost thrown across the room shortly after I finished the last page.
Being Scottish my daughter-in-law recommended it…..initially sceptical…..and guess what, I fell in love with her writing and currently about to finish Book 8. Apparently Book 9 is due soon!
I couldn’t make it through the first book. It just never really hooked me for some reason. The show had a similar issue for me — I felt like it couldn’t quite decide what it was trying to be and the tone was all over the place. But I know this is a bit of a fringe opinion.
I don’t read back to back. Honestly I read one a year. I started reading when the show first came out and I read the next book in the series right before the new season starts. I would probably burn out if I did back to back.
Can not recommend it enough! I have read it multiple times and enjoy it each time. I also listen to it on Audible, Davina Porter does an awesome job narrating.
Started about a month ago and am straight onto the next. Great series I’m loving it. Up to book 5. I haven’t watched any tv since I picked up book 1 lol x
Started this in the early 1990s. Absolutely LOVED the first book, the 2nd was a tad boring (too much Paris!!!) LOVED the 3rd book, quite enjoyed the 4th and gave up halfway through the 5th – . Too ‘wordy’ and a tad boring for me.
I read the first four books, started the fifth and completely lost interest. Of course that was back when there were only five books. Anyway, for some, the series is a godsend. For me, not so much.
@Jason absolutely. I actually went to hear the author. Diana Gabaldon speak with a couple of my friends in Kansas City. It normally takes her 6-8 years to write one book. They are so technically accurate and her characters are honestly a part of my life. Love her. Not your think tho bro- it would appeal to more of a female audience- too much love and sex for you 😀
I just had to stop reading it after 300 pages. It was more like a romance novel, which I don’t like, than a historical fiction. I don’t feel a good book needs a sex scene every few pages to make it better. I really wanted to like this book. I’m more of a Ken Follett fan for historical fiction.
On the 2nd book…love it so far!
It is fantastic!! One of the best series I’ve ever read.
I have read it twice. Amazing story
Fantastic! Read them all ! Can’t wait for the next.
Not yet. The entire series has been on my kindle for years. I can’t get into it. Everyone loves them though. Someday I will read them.

Thats wat im afraid of…??
Take breaks in between with other books
Read the first one, absolutely awful took me 2 weeks to finish it. Barbara Erskine far superior.
I love Barbara Erskine – never NOT enjoyed any of her books.
Totally agree, Erskine in a different league entirely.
Read book 1 and really liked it.
OMG I love the Outlander series. Have read the first 4 in the series and just picked up the 5th The Fiery Cross to read.
I can’t seem to get into it. On the second book and finally put it down.

Gave up half way through the first book ?

My all time favourite, the characters stay with you forever. Enjoy ?

Gave up on that one – found it intensely boring 🙁

Love it. So. Much.
I’ve just read the first 5 novels. Now I feel it’s enough. I did enjoy them though. But can’t get through all 7.
Take a breather like I did.

So great, a commitment yes but worth it
Absolutely amazing! I have read three of them and now need to read book 4 before I watch season 4 of the series
Better hurry up new season 4 starts on November 4th.
@Doreen I know! ?
I know I won’t finish on time but at least I can binge watch season 4 as soon as I have read the book. ?
I’ve read the series several times. You either love them or hate them. There is no in between
Just seen series
LOVE it!
I took the plunge! Page 189

I tried many years ago but couldn’t get into them.

Loved, loved , loved! It took me from 4 months to read though…. I finished in September and am still missing the characters ?
Love it
I’m currently on drums of autumn absolutely love the books and series xx
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I read the first four books, started the fifth and completely lost interest. Of course that was back when there were only five books. Anyway, for some, the series is a godsend. For me, not so much.
Exactly the same as me, I found the 5th book incredibly boring – just too long and wordy and I gave up.
Yes read them all. Loved them. Hated it on tv
I’ve been a fan since they beginning. Read and re re-read several times, it is by far my favorite series.
Love love love!!!
Love the two first books, then got tired of it
Only read the first book so far and I loved it 🙂 x
Awesome read!
Loved it! One of the best series ever!
LOVE them! Rereading as I watch the series.
One of my all time favorite books
wonderful characters!
On my TBR list
Love. Eagerly awaiting next book.
Love them! They are amazing. 7th book is a drag to get through but thats because the 6th is so packed with good stuff!
Amazing
The books were great, but the TV series a disappointment!
Reading it now and still on the fence. More sex in it than I like though. Hoping it gets better. I’m on page 300
My friend, Alexandria has and LOVED them
Yes loved most of them. The last few, in my opinion, were a little boring. However I will also be reading the latest if Diana ever finishes it.
Best series ever written in the history of the world– EVER
Wendi, there are several others that equal Outlander, but they do not surpass it.
Really?
@Jason yes. Why do you ask?
@Jason absolutely. I actually went to hear the author. Diana Gabaldon speak with a couple of my friends in Kansas City. It normally takes her 6-8 years to write one book. Pass lol ?
My favorite series ever.
?❤️??❤️?
Loved!!! Read it all within 3 months
Wonderful
I just had to stop reading it after 300 pages. It was more like a romance novel, which I don’t like, than a historical fiction. I don’t feel a good book needs a sex scene every few pages to make it better. I really wanted to like this book. I’m more of a Ken Follett fan for historical fiction.
Ken Follet has sex scenes in his books. I remember a particularly vivid one in The Eye of the Needle.
But it’s not explicit nor every other page.
@Kymm oh yes it was explicit, and Outlander does not have sex on “every other page.”
I guess it’s a personal preference. I just didn’t like the book.
Fabulous
Love the series on Netflix. Is it the same story?
It actually sticks very closely to the books which is good! (y)
Very mixed reviews!
Favorite books ever!!
Loved!
I really, really enjoyed the first 3 books but had to stop reading from book 4 on. I felt it became too much
