Love them! I have read them about 5 times and listened to the audiobooks 3 times. Davina Porter does an awesome job of narrating. I am waiting for the 9th book she is writing now!
@Antonia I had purchased Outlander on my Kindle and had it for over a year when I saw the tv show was coming, so I read it the week before the show and have been addicted ever since.
Yes, and I have noticed on reread that I always pick up some different things that I didn’t catch at 1st. I love that they are like a history lesson of things around Jamie, Claire and their family.
@Poppie I was never too interested in John Gray but after the Tv series I think I might read them. Something about bringing that character to life has me curious to read his story
I am interested in this series but am turned off by the sexualized selling point. I have to ask if it’s worth my time, being a fan of the premise but not the overly sexualized story line.
I think the sex in the first book is the best. IMO I would try the first one. You can try checking your local library before purchasing if you are unsure.
@Alex I’m so jealous!! Wish my husband would read the same books as me. So many times I’ve finished a book and wanted to just go crazy discussing it with someone haha
Haha! To be honest, he has only really started reading recently. He hadnt found books that he enjoyed so never read, but something clicked with outlander and game of thrones. Plenty of us to talk about with these two series ?
I’m in the middle of watching season 3.. saw this before I realised there were books. I’ve bought into the characters and their voices, so I don’t think I could read them now. Even though books are much better
@Poppie that’s the thing … the obvious chemistry between the two actors AND the outstanding acting of Frank/Jack makes it so good to watch. The acting abilities of Briana are very disappointing
I started on Kindle earlier this year and just could not get into it at all. I only ever hear good things about it though so I’m thinking I need to go back and give it another chance.
I listened to the first few chapters probably a dozen times and I just couldn’t go any further. I had only read outstanding comments so I didn’t want to give up on it. I finally go past the first few chapters and I couldn’t put it down. I have started the second book, but I found that I was really attached to the characters and I was nervous about the track of the story and I haven’t been able to bring myself to finish the story…:(
Oh man. All the recommendations are pretty strong. Now I must read it. Problem is I don’t know where in my long TBR list to put it. I guess that’s a good problem to have. ?
I spent a whole New Years Day, a few years ago, reading one of the books. I got up only to eat, bathroom break and stretch my legs so I wouldn’t wind up with a blood clot!
That was when I gave up. Too ‘wordy’ and a tad boring for me. Absolutely LOVED the first book, the 2nd was a tad boring (too much Paris) LOVED the 3rd book, quite enjoyed the 4th and gave up halfway through the 5th.
The first book in the series was released in the UK under the title “Cross Stitch” and I’m pretty certain I read that in 1991, not 1993 Michelle AD?? And I’m sure it would have been released in the USA before that.
I absolutely loved this series. Books 4 and 5 were a bit slow, but I kept going and im so glad I did! Books 6, 7, and 8 I zipped through, could not put them down. Diana really hit her writing stride with the last three.
That’s so interesting to know Karen! I loved the first few books but I actually stopped reading book 5 because it got really slow. I’m going to finish reading the series now – can’t wait! Thank you ?
@Karen – can I find the order of the books somewhere! I own the one that I stopped reading so I need to figure out the other books to borrow from the library!
Love them! I have read them about 5 times and listened to the audiobooks 3 times. Davina Porter does an awesome job of narrating. I am waiting for the 9th book she is writing now!
Same here. I had a relationship with the series since the mid 90s. What a long, beautiful ride it has been. Looking forward to number 9.
I’ve collected all John grey too so I’ll read those next.
History in the books intertwined with the love story is what keeps me coming back
@Poppie I was never too interested in John Gray but after the Tv series I think I might read them. Something about bringing that character to life has me curious to read his story
@Poppie I love those too! I really like Lord John Grey. Jamie is featured in the Scottish Prisoner.
i won’t watch the series till I’ve read the books.
I love John and Jaime!!
Read the 1st book then watch season 1. It’s a season per book.
I am interested in this series but am turned off by the sexualized selling point. I have to ask if it’s worth my time, being a fan of the premise but not the overly sexualized story line.
I don’t feel the books are sexualized the way the show is. There are definite sex scenes in the book but not a lot and many are modest.
I’m the same way but I loved these books. You may roll your eyes in a few scenes but the story definitely is worth a few eye rolls!
You can easily skip through/skim the sex scenes. There is plenty of other material that those do not dominate the books.
I think the sex in the first book is the best. IMO I would try the first one. You can try checking your local library before purchasing if you are unsure.
The first book is pretty raunchy… but it calms down after that.
I think it is. It’s about a couple and is natural to the story.
Loved the series!!
I’m only on book one but I’m loving it, husband is on book 3!
Oh I can imagine. Especially with game of thrones, don’t think we’d ever talk to the kids again ?
Loved it ❤️
About 3/4 the way through book 3 and loving them. Also after I finish one book I then watch that season x
I’m refusing to watch them. They don’t accurately go with some story lines. Books are ALWAYS better tho as we all know.
@Poppie Yes I agree books are always better
@Amy I have the series also tho. I will watch it as I have a huge crush on the Jaime actor ❤️ but I’ll do after I’ve read the books.
@Poppie I loved season 1. Ron (RDM, the show runner) has ruined the TV version… And I’m with you on Sam Heughan!! ?
I’m in the middle of watching season 3.. saw this before I realised there were books.
I’ve bought into the characters and their voices, so I don’t think I could read them now.
Even though books are much better
I watched 3epi of the first season and stopped and decided to read the books.
The books are good, slow in places but better. Plus it’s good seeing the actor Jaime but the book shows him physically different so it hard hahha
@Poppie that’s the thing … the obvious chemistry between the two actors AND the outstanding acting of Frank/Jack makes it so good to watch.
The acting abilities of Briana are very disappointing
@Clare I miss jack.
My problem was a charactor died in the books but they apparently kept him alive in the series ( the puts me off watching it )
@Poppie that is frustrating. Who dies?
@Poppie I think that was the best part of the series for me. Is they let him live a little longer.
@Clare try them on audio. Davina Porter is amazing.
@Clare Murtagh
@Poppie Great character. Im glad they left him in. Im at the point where he’s just been sent to the colonies
@Clare He died in the battle. Jaime was there and announced it in book three. I was shocked and upset. He was one of my favourites.
I started on Kindle earlier this year and just could not get into it at all. I only ever hear good things about it though so I’m thinking I need to go back and give it another chance.
Me too , but I don’t think I have it enough time. I’m going to try it again!!! Too many people love it – I think we will too! ❤️
I have read it twice – the whole series
I’m only on the first book but I just bought the 2nd and 3rd book in the series. I cant put it down!
Loved them !
Best series ever!
I only read first two well listened to them on audio. I find them too wordy and at times boring.
Favorite book series of all time! Love love love!
I’ve read book 1 but none of the others. People keep telling me how the time travel gets really weird and makes the story hard to keep track of
@Tiffany I disagree. The narrative switches back and forth but I didn’t find it hard to follow at all .
Can’t make the commitment.
I’m listening to them I don’t have time to read. But I’m on book 2 it’s good love the show!
I listened to the first few chapters probably a dozen times and I just couldn’t go any further. I had only read outstanding comments so I didn’t want to give up on it. I finally go past the first few chapters and I couldn’t put it down. I have started the second book, but I found that I was really attached to the characters and I was nervous about the track of the story and I haven’t been able to bring myself to finish the story…:(
Don’t give up! It really is a beautiful story!
I’ve read and re read and bought all the novellas and i am very impatiently awaiting the release of go tell the bees !
Oh man. All the recommendations are pretty strong. Now I must read it. Problem is I don’t know where in my long TBR list to put it. I guess that’s a good problem to have. ?
yes but by the time the next one comes out I will have forgotten what was going on, great story
@Willene my problem too!
My fav ever!!
I’m in book 5 too. I put it down and get back to it a lot. It’s a doozy.
I was like this with the fifth but totally worth finishing and number 6 is brilliant xxx
Book 4 took me nearly 5m to read. Just fucking sloooow then heated up then sloooow again
Lexie, keep going! 6,7, and 8 are magnificent!
Read them all…twice!
Great Books!! Loved them!
Books 1 and 4 are my favorite. I’m 70% through book 5. Audio definitely helps with this one.
I’ve been on the sixth book for a year. Just can’t get into it anymore.
Yesssss!!!! One of my favorite books series ever!
Yes!!! On the 6th book love love love
I spent a whole New Years Day, a few years ago, reading one of the books. I got up only to eat, bathroom break and stretch my legs so I wouldn’t wind up with a blood clot!
Read the entire series up to Written In My Own Heart’s Blood in summer.
I just started the first one.
I’m on book 7. I’m obsessed and addicted to the show and to the books and the audiobooks!
obsessed with it all and…….Jamie next series on uk Amazon starts Nov 5th I think
Really? Oh brilliant!
I listened on audio and thought it was great!
That was when I gave up. Too ‘wordy’ and a tad boring for me. Absolutely LOVED the first book, the 2nd was a tad boring (too much Paris) LOVED the 3rd book, quite enjoyed the 4th and gave up halfway through the 5th.
Loved the first. Second too me forever. Loved the third. The 4th took me 5m to finish.
Hoping the rest are better
I read them all … very good but a very long read .
I’ve read them all xxx
I read the first four books, and had the fifth to read. But I just got bored with the whole thing, so I gave the books away.
I loved the first and third. Second and fourth took ages. Think the fifth might drag too but I’ve heard the 6-7-8 are great.
You sound just like me @Poppie except I gave up on the 5th
Omg!!! I LOVED THEM! I thought the 8th book was the best!
I’m on the last… panicky over finishing! I’m going to miss them all! One of them is a bit slow, but still good. X
Absolutely and have enjoyed them all!
A big commitment though… I started reading them the end of may!
I first started reading them back when her first was published in 1993! I have been a n addict ever since.
My favorite
The first book in the series was released in the UK under the title “Cross Stitch” and I’m pretty certain I read that in 1991, not 1993 Michelle AD?? And I’m sure it would have been released in the USA before that.
Haven’t read the books yet but love the TV series.
Thank you ?
@Lauren , you will not regret it! i would love to hear what you thought of them when you finish #8 : )
@Karen – can I find the order of the books somewhere! I own the one that I stopped reading so I need to figure out the other books to borrow from the library!
@Lauren look online to find their order..
Love it
Love the series. I’ve only read the first 4.
Read all of them many times and hate that someday the series will end.
Yes, very good series !
Halfway through book 1. Brilliant so far
Everyone one. Loved it
Top of the line writing and storytelling which is why she is one of my favorite authors.
My fav ever!!!
Nope is it good? Synopsis?
I read the first 3, then got bogged down in 4 and quit.
The 5th book was slow for me. I think I’ve read up through 7. It’s a fun series.
On book 2!!
My favorite author and I read the first book twice, but the 5th book was also a slow read for me and hard to finish.
That’s what I’m finding but imma keep going. A bit slow but I hear the next 3 are awesome.
@Poppie, and @Christinaspinazzola, keep going!! It is so worth it! Yes book 5 is slow, but 6,7, and 8 are incredible!
@Karen finding book five easier to read than 4 or 2. They took me forever.
Love them all, recommended x
