I’m probably going to take heat for this but they’re boring and feel like they’re written to the “lowest common denominator” of readers just to keep making money off of sequels… Give the first one a shot, you might like them. ?♀️. But don’t feel obligated to read them just because they’re popular.
@Angelina that sounds like a lot of popular series. First one or first couple are ok but the rest are written to quickly so they can get more books out or meet the publishers quota. I haven’t read this series yet. I’m sure some day I’ll get around to it.
@Tracie oh I definitely agree… it’s sadly a common occurrence that they’ll just keep pushing out more books (movies too) just because people are still paying….
I’m listening to audio in my car to work, on book 3 now, I’m oohhhhing and aaahing and sucking in my breath with shock and drama, the audio version has Scottish accents too. So brilliant!
I love them ? Found the second one a bit hard going at times but the series as a whole is very good. I’m listening to them on audio and the narrator is excellent ?
I’ve read all 8 books 3 times AND the Lord John books, too. I’m going to start all over in january to prepare for “Bees”/book 9. I admit that there are passages that I skip here and there, but overall I just love them.
I love them, bits can b a bit slow/hard but I think their worth it
Yes
The thing is it is very subjective… The majority loves it, I found it verbose and dragging. So you should just try it.
Yes.
I’ve only read the first book. Very detailed. I think I’m going to stick to the show.
@Crystal I agree. The show takes the best aspects of the books and moves the story along faster. The casting is superb!
They cut out a lot of good stuff too though lol
It really is subjective. I found it very detailed and wordy, and couldn’t really get into it.
@Ralitsa Me, too
@JoAnn I found myself skipping whole passages just to get to the good parts. ?
@Ralitsa I did, too. Just looking for their conversation. ?
Same
I loved the book series
I, too, loved the series!
I never got beyond book four. The show is better.
I loved it!
Found the show better than the book ?
I enjoyed reading the books.
I liked book one, book two was alright, book three was too long and boring, and book four was better than three. That’s as far as I’ve gotten so far.
Absoswearwordlutly ? It’s so so so good, imagine a million so goods, that’s how good it is.
YES!!!!!!
I’ve read them all and liked the all

The first one is very good.

@Don You’re welcome to your opinion.
I think so. And I was a doubter for like 2 decades before I gave in.
I made it thru the third then got bored…
Yes. But they are very detailed. I still have to finish Written in my own heart’s blood. I took a break.
Yes they are worth the read! Until the book when they crossed the ocean to go to America before the American Revolution. The TV series is good too
Indeed
I loved them!! But that dang gathering lol, tooookkk forever.
yes
Yes, so much better than the tv series
Yes
I love both the books and the tv series
Not in my opinion.
Yes! I love it.
Yes !!! So worth it !!!! Every single one is fantastic. Her writing style transports you . My favorite books ever !!
The tv show is good too
Yesssss
I couldn’t get into the book….
after 5 or 6 chapters, I drop the book #2 …
Im on The Fiery Cross now
I love the writing style but they are really long and really detailed
@Ginger me too! I feel like this one is moving a little more slowly than the first four
@Gwenn it really is!
I so love the strong female characters
I wanna be Claire when I grow up!!!
she is so cool and that’s exactly what saves the series from being corny, as well as Ms. Gabaldon ‘s excellent writing.
If you listen to the audio…I had trouble reading it but the narrator was great with the accents which helped me fall in love with the series
Yes
Yesssssssssss.
I’m listening to audio in my car to work, on book 3 now, I’m oohhhhing and aaahing and sucking in my breath with shock and drama, the audio version has Scottish accents too. So brilliant!
I adored the Tv show so
I imagine the books are even better
They are good but they have alot of detail
I lost interest in the middle of the fourth book.
I have loved the series for over 20 years and have read it multiple times. I love the TV show also.
Yes, it’s absolutely worth it. I’m almost finished with a Book Six. Just be aware that they’re very long. It’s a serious time investment.
Yes! The show is great too.
I’m almost done with outlander and all I can say is I’m
So glad I stuck with it. Sooooo good cant wait to read the rest of the series
Love the books.
My sister and best friend love it me I had difficulty getting into it
I’m on the last book. Love it 🙂
Yes
I’m halfway through the first one!!!
Yes!!!!
Yes
I was wondering the same thing I have heard mixed reviews I think the length of all of them puts me off but I have read 1000 plus page books before
YES!! I’m waiting on book 9 to come out next year
Yes,
Absolutely
Definetly
Yup.
I love them ? Found the second one a bit hard going at times but the series as a whole is very good. I’m listening to them on audio and the narrator is excellent ?
I liked the first two, but each one got progressively longer. I must be the only one who lost interest after a while.
I loved the audio books. ?
My neighbor gave the first book..she loves the series but I had a hard time..couldn’t finish it,,guess it isn’t my cup of tea☕
YES!!
Yes but the fifth book , The Fiery Cross was pretty boring. I
@Margaret glad you felt that too- I’m dragging myself through it for the most part
Yeah. And poor Roger. ( no spoilers)
I’m still on Jocasta’s wedding, so I’m not sure what you mean yet, but I feel like Roger is chronically under appreciated. And just as hot as Jamie.
Meh, watch the TV-series instead, it’s better. ?
Meh – the series is perhaps ½ of the books.
Exactly: The important half. You won’t miss anything important by watching the series instead of reading the book.
But I like BIG BOOKS, and I cannot lie … ?
Me too, but Outlander-series ??
I’ve read all 8 books 3 times AND the Lord John books, too. I’m going to start all over in january to prepare for “Bees”/book 9. I admit that there are passages that I skip here and there, but overall I just love them.
I’m looking forward to reading them ALL
I’m not really into the TV series, the main characters are not as I’d imagined them and they took too many liberties with the plot
