Practical Magic, but then the movie and novel only seem to share the name and a few details. Also, I might be biased as I grew up watching it and it’s one of my favorite movies.
I read it a few years ago, when I found out the movie was an adaptation. I didn’t like the book. I was extremely disappointed. Then again, I’m probably biased. Don’t get me wrong, Hoffman’s other writing is pretty good…but not this one.
Exactly what happened with me. I have to force myself to finish it because I paid an astronomical price for it after my young daughter colored in a borrowed library book.
I would say it was good. I liked the book but thought there was more the movie was to portray. Anna was a completely different person in the move than the book.
The only reason I thought the movie was better in this case is because I didn’t like the book at all. I don’t know why it got so much hype. I thought it was boring and predictable and I didn’t give a crap what happened to Anna. The movie at least made her a tiny bit likeable.
Eww, no. I mean the book wasn’t as great as the post Gone Girl hype would lead you to believe. But my main issue with the movie is the fact that they moved it from London to sububrban New York for some unfathomable reason… even though it’s such a British book
I didn’t love the book, but I wanted to. I read it twice – once in HS and once a few years later before the new movie came out. I just thought the movie seemed low-budget. I think I was just expecting too much.
I actually thought the book was fantastic but the movie is sooooooo well done that i have always said this is one of the few cases where the movie was better
Well I grew up watching the movie way before I read the book so it could be that or I just wasn’t that into cause I had babies running around at the time. It’s been almost 10 years since I’ve read it.
I love seeing short stories tuned into movies. Once they are on the screen, I feel as though they become more magical. Does anyone else have that feeling?
If I Stay. I found the book to be really disappointing. I, for once, saw the movie before I read the book. I’m glad I did. I wouldn’t have watched it if I had read the book first.
The story itself is decent, and the twist very well executed… which is what made the movie good. But the story drags. It could have easily been cut to 350-400 pages!
The Godfather 1&2!!?
I liked If I Stay the movie better than the book haha

I haven’t finished the book yet. :/
For years now, it’s been half read… I love the movie!

I loved the book, did find the movie lacking…
The Zookeepers Wife movie was much better than the book. I thought the book was tiresome .
Stardust
I love both the book and the movie, but yes, the movie is so much better. Especially for adding Dustin Hoffman in all his drag finery!
I haven’t finished the book yet but it is my all time favorite movie
“Ender’s Game” but someone – “Took-Me-to-Task”, about “this”?!…
I have to agree with the task taker; Book was better. Though I did think they did a good job with the film.
The Great Gatsby
Old or new? I was kind of disappointed in the newer movie.
The book seemed interesting when I was in high school. 40 yrs later, I tried to re-read it and found it so boring. My students loved the newer movie.

A monster calls
None ?
Lol. There are some exceptions, I feel. Maybe try some of the suggestions given here? If you still feel the same way after, then fair enough.
I agree @Neelma there are a few that are better than the book. Not bucket loads but still some.
I rather like The Polar Express better in film, but the book is still good.
Gone Girl in my opinion!
I just got that book from the library
The story itself is decent, and the twist very well executed… which is what made the movie good.
But the story drags. It could have easily been cut to 350-400 pages!
I’ll be reading it next week ..
Never a movie can be better than books
Oh yes! Forrest Gump is the sweetest film and a rubbish book.
Absolutely it can 🙂
It is just uncommon
The Jason Bourne series, The Hobbit etc.
