I’ve never tried an audio book before. What is it like? Considering to give it a try. Is it better than manual reading?

I dont think it’s better than reading, but I’ve really started to enjoy them
I tried. Couldn’t focus. Didn’t work for me
I drive around for four hours every morning and they’re nice to pass the time. A lot of people seem split on them. I love them, but there are some that aren’t well read that makes them tedious.
Just like someone reading to you. I enjoy them for driving, while I’m exercising, tanning, working, etc
I dont have time to read anymore but I have almost 8 hours monday thru friday each day to listen so I started them a year ago and I’m so glad I did. I go through overdrive and rent them from my local library. Sometimes the voices are different but I just ignore that lol for example I started morganville vampires and I got to the 12th I think and they have all new people reading them so that bugged me a little because they sound so different and pronounce a few names different also
It just feels like someone is reading to you. I quite like it, I use it often, even listening to the audiobook and following along when I’m tired
It’s a lifesaver for me on my long commutes and I can listen while doing laundry or cleaning. I’ve read far more book than would have otherwise been possible.
I like them but I would definitely recommend sampling it first to make sure you like the narrator. I have had a few that would make me fall asleep but I have had way more good experiences. They kind of enhance the story when it’s a good narrator
My first was lord of Shadows because the book is so huge and I found I got board reading it. The audio was so much better.
If you’re a multi-tasker you will love it. Audiobooks are the best when you’re cleaning, doing mindless work, and doing projects ❤️ it doesn’t replace a physical book but it’s still an awesome way to “read”.
Thanks for the comments.. I’ll give it a try
I love audiobooks so much. I’ve been an audible member for 9 years now and I have almost 400 books. 100% worth it. You can still do stuff while you read like cook, clean, exercise, drive etc. you never have to put down the book lol except talk to people but ehh lol
I love audio books! I used to use audible (which I still love) but it got a little pricey.. so now I rent through my library on overdrive.
Love them! Especially when driving.
I use them when doing other things like driving, cleaning etc. I try to choose books that don’t take a lot of focus. A fluffy romance, a celebrity biography, middle grade etc.
It really depends on your perspective. Try it & yiu can decide if It’s for you or not.
Audio books fit with my lifestyle. I spend two hours driving betwee my home and work and squeeze my reading into those hours. I also tend to listen to them when I’m out walking or doing chores around the house. ?
The first one is kinda weird lol but once you get into the flow of things they’re amazing! Especially for driving or cleaning or cooking or doing laundry, etc!
I think the subject matter and the voice talent make a huge difference.
I tend to only listen to non-fiction or contemporary thrillers. Fantasy is too hard for me because I sometimes miss the details of the world-building when I space out or someone talks to me.
I tried it 2 times.
I found that the voices were ok.
The thing i dont like is the speed of the reading. Sometimes i like to read certain paragraphs slower or faster depending on the content. If I dont understand something I will reread a line or Google a word i dont know.
I also do a lot of stop/start reading throughout the day and with audiobooks I found i loose track of what happened because it’s hard to reread a line or 2.
Basically I like to take my time with reading and audiobooks dont suit my style of reading.
