Reading Rivers of London on Audible is a real kick. There are some good narrators, some not so good, and some whose work build on the authors writing to make something better. Holdbrook-Smith’s narration takes good stories over the top!
John Sandford’s novels – both the Prey and Virgil Flowers series. I often burst out laughing, even though they’re not deliberately ‘comic’ novels. Plus, Carl Hiaasen and Laurence Shames. And Tim Dorsey. These last three are all Florida writers … don’t know what it is about Florida!
Too many to list, but great humourous crime writers include Ruth Dudley Edwards, Christopher Fowler, Mike Ripley, and some of Peter Lovesey’s works (the Bertie novels, in which Prince Albert investigates). More recently there are the Mick Herron novels. And that’s only British writers!
Janet Evanovich is hilarious, Elmore Leonard is funny, Joan Hess and Elizabeth Peters are funny, and Dead in Venice by @Fiona had me laughing so loud people stared.
And I found also Inspector Frost books by Wingfield as Dalziel and Pascoe books by Reginald Hill funny and good! The actors from the tv-series I had also all the time in my mind. Just loved them all!
Try the Linwood Barclay Zack Walker series – found myself chuckling as I read them – Bad Move is the first book
Definitely. I can still remember that rucksack in the first book and the snake!
@Alyson I could just imagine a young Tom Hanks playing Zack on screen lol

I’ve read a lot of his books. Not read any of his early books. But i have read his Peter Lear books

Aberystwyth Mon Amour by Malcolm Pryce
They’re older but the Peter Shandy series by Charlotte MacLeod.

Brookmyre’s earlier stuff is superb if you’re looking for funny. His later books are still excellent but he doesn’t really go for funny in them.
His older books used to have funnier titles
@Jason that reflects the books really. The last few are really good but there has been a very deliberate shift in tone.
He is now writing with his wife under a pseudonym
@Carolines Euphemia Martin Series

I also found Olga Wojtas’ Miss Blaines’s Prefect and the Golden Samovar quite funny, different, to me a little like a funny Dr Who story.
