Chris Brookmyre’s early books are wonderful (as long as you don’t mind creative swearing). Start at the beginning with Quite Ugly One Morning. If the opening chapters don’t make you LOL, nothing will.
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce wrote a trilogy under the pseudonym ‘Steve Barnes’ in the nineties; I can assure you that from the excerpts I’ve read/ heard, they’re absolutely hilarious, though I don’t think Steve intended them to be received as such ?
Tim Dorsey’s Serge Storm series, Laurence Shames, most of Elmore Leonard’s books have a good deal of humour in them, Harlan Coben’s Byron Molitar … and not forgetting Joe R. Lansdale’s Hap and Leonard series, which are hilarious.
Hint, hint, don’t let Wendy see this @David and keep it under your hat but it’s called “Antiques and Alibis” and she has a brand new PI called Cass Claymore. Shh now its a secret. 🙂
Anything by Elizabeth Peters, Joan Hess, Donna Andrews, Janet Evanovich.

Chris Brookmyre’s early books are wonderful (as long as you don’t mind creative swearing). Start at the beginning with Quite Ugly One Morning. If the opening chapters don’t make you LOL, nothing will.

He’s writing darker books now, you have to get the earlier ones.
