Yes. I speak Spanish… The audio books with a Spanish accent (the one from Spain sound very different from the one from Latin America) sound as if a robot is telling the story. ?
If is a new book for me, yes. If is an old one and the narration sucks I can still hear it, because I already have my own voice(for lack of a better word) of the story and just want to reread something I liked or loved.
Absolutely. There are some books that I really can’t stand the narrator for. One I tried to listen to had an accent so heavy I couldn’t understand some of it and gave up.
I think they can. I couldn’t handle the narrator for Children of Blood and Bone. Plus the narrator for P.C. Cast I can’t stand. Thankfully their new book is being narrated by someone so much better.
Caitlin Davies. She did all of HoN and the Tales of A New World. Not sure if she did Loved and Lost. The Dysasters will be narrated by the girl who did the Divergent series by Veronica Roth.
Yes! The narrator for Throne of Glass is horrible. I also did not like the narrator for Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson and Nevernight by Jay Kristoff but both are books I love now that I’ve read them in their physical
Yes definitely. If your talking about audiobooks, the voice of a narrator can be pitchy or too low for female characters which personally throws me off. Or the accent can be to pronounced and just put you off of the book. If it’s a literary thing like how the book is written that too can be off putting if the narrative is too all over the place or if the details are absurdly much
For me its because I’m a book nerd that works so much I barely have time off so I can work around that with the audiobooks but its definitely not the same as with your own take on each characters voice.
Sometimes. Bad equipment and I hate when they sound effects. It’s only really happened less than a dozen times out of my 500+ audio books I’ve ever listened to.
Sadly yes. There have been audiobooks I have wanted to read and the accent and/or the voice they used for characters drove me to read the physical book instead. Ps I listen to audiobooks while working and I want something to immerse me to make the day more than cleaning
Also like production can ruin one too IMO.. like the shadowhunter audiobooks.. at least for TMI for whatever reason everyone that’s not a mundane is british… and it drives me crazy!!
Yes! Crooked Kingdom had one male character that made Kaz sound like a creepy house elf instead of the awesome commanding voice he had on Six Of Crows I’m not sure who the narrator was though.
Yes! I’ve decided not to listen to audio books if the sample narration isn’t right. When I say isn’t right – I just mean for me. I think you can tell pretty quick what works for you and what does not. Its very much in the “ear of the beholder.”
Yes. Narration is key.,they need to be able to bring the charactor to like somehow, change the voice a bit for each character, or alot if they are really good.
Absolutely!
YES! I could not get into The Atomic City Girls on Audiobook but I’m enjoying it more reading the physical copy

@Lucy yes!!!! Loved the books but the audiobook killed me!
@Brandy thank God I’m not the only one. The way she did Edward’s voice was especially grating.
Depending

I can’t even get the new books in audio because the books aren’t published in England ? which narrator didn’t you like they had like 4 lol ??
Caitlin Davies. She did all of HoN and the Tales of A New World. Not sure if she did Loved and Lost. The Dysasters will be narrated by the girl who did the Divergent series by Veronica Roth.
My HoN audiobooks were narrated by 4 different people. Caitlin was by far my favourite though aha.
@Gecko really? Four others? Any time I search it all pops up with Caitlin’s name lol. Maybe they did something different for the U.K.
Internesting. That’s pretty cool though!
Yup and if you didn’t know I was a HoN fan you do now ??
Yes!
Yes! The narrators for City of Heavenly Fire were terrible. It was a struggle to listen to.

Yes! I listened to one narrator with the most nasally voice. It was awful, but I was driving cross- country and wanted a book.
Definitely! The Darkest Minds did this to me ?
Yes. A narrator can ruin a book. What bothers me the most is distracting character accents.
But, I have a much longer list of narrators I love
Yes

Yes! I can’t listen to the TOG series in audio because I hate the ladies voice
Yaaas
Absolutely. Throne of Glass and The Foxhole Court have awful narrators.
@Lauren I’m really glad to see this. I just finished the books and was considering going for the audio books next.
Yes I have to get the actual book for some cause I hate the narrator
Yes. I believe they can—it’s happened to me before.

I actually loved Elizabeth Evans from ToG. I love her Celeana swagger.
@Brandy I found her face so monotone, I couldn’t get through the first book lol
@Cheyenne I didn’t like the narrator for Stalking Jack the Ripper by James Patterson. Couldn’t even finish the first chapter
YES!!!!!!?
Yep
Totally

Well I feel the same about writing style.
