I have some narrators I seek out – Jim Dale is one another is Katherine Kellgren. In terms of the HP series, I have listened to the first book read by dale and by Fry. While I love Stephen Fry, I prefer Dale’s reading of Harry Potter.
Jim Dale for the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling and Lisette Lecat for The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith are my favorites!
Tim Gerard Reynolds absolutely love his narration of the Ryera series. You lose the fact that it’s not a full cast production and just one amazing man.
Davina Porter definitely. I am hoping the last two Outlander books will be finished before she retires. I don’t think my brain will accept any other voice as Claire.
Simon Vance is always excellent. I heard him first in the Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O’Brian, but I’ve also heard several other of his recordings since then. For the most part, I think most commercial audiobook readers are at least competent and some are outstanding.
The only one I’ve never been able to get on with is John Lee, who obviously satisfies a lot of listeners because he gets a lot of work. I’ve only tried him on two recordings, but they both drove me crazy. His reading of “Master and Commander” by Patrick O’Brian almost put me to sleep (and I was driving at the time, so that was not good — I had to pull over for a three-hour nap before I was alert enough to drive). I stood his recording of “Under the Volcano” by Malcolm Lowry slightly better, but the man just simply could not properly pronounce ANY of the Spanish words. He sounded like a stereotypical British tourist at the Canary Islands or the Costa del Sol. I returned that one to the library before getting more than halfway done.
I also have several favorite volunteer narrators at the audiobook site LibriVox, chiefly Elizabeth Klett, Tadgh Hynes, Karen Savage, David Clarke, Martin Geeson, Peter Yearsley, etc.
Of those two I prefer Dale.
Jim Dale was great. All time favorites are George Guidal
John Lee and Mark Bramhall
Scott Brick
The Help was a cast and that was very enjoyable
Love Scott brick!!!
George Guidall ??
Jim Dale could read me the telephone book and I’d happy.
I’ve never heard the Fry HP versions, but I love Jim Dale. Listened to The Night Circus just because he narrated it.
.
Hearing Jim Dale’s voice reminds me of Pushing Daisies!
I loved the narrators of Lilac Girls!

For fiction I prefer actors reading versus authors. For nonfiction I prefer the author
Dion Graham is pretty good. Give him a try.
Love Hugh Fraser reading Agatha Christie’s Poirot. I like Jim Dale but I could not stand his Hermoine.
i’m listening to HP by jim dale right now, and i gotta agree, his Hermione sucks!! Everyone else is really good though!
The audio book I liked the best was “The magic Strings of Frankie Pesto” by Mitch Albom
Scott Brick is great!
Jim Dale is a master as well as the guy who read the J A Jane series. I can’t remember his name
J A Jance.
Jayne Entwhistle and Steve West are my favorites.
I love Steve West!
I prefer to listen to women readers.
Has to be a very good female voice..no screechy, scratchy ones.
Brenda Fraser is awesome. Listen to Dragon rider by Cornelia Funke.
They are both awesome.
Tom Hollander narrating J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy was quite good. Edward Herrmann is also a good listen.
Jim Dale!
Jim Dale!
Graeme Malcolm
Jim Dale
Claire Danes reading The Handmaid’s Tale was amazing. Both Jim Dale and Frye are great.
thanks for the suggestion
Love Jim Dale

Gerard Doyle
love his voice
Tim Gerard Reynolds absolutely love his narration of the Ryera series. You lose the fact that it’s not a full cast production and just one amazing man.
Richard Armitage, Alan Cumming,Neil Gaiman…I think I enjoy the accents.
Davina Porter definitely. I am hoping the last two Outlander books will be finished before she retires. I don’t think my brain will accept any other voice as Claire.
I listened to her narrate Tess of the D’urbervilles and all I could picture was Claire! It was a little off-putting. I do love her though!
John Rubinstein. He reads all the Jonathan Kellerman books.
Jim Dale
Rosario Dawson did a great job with Artemis
Anything by Bahni Turpin is AMAZING.
Jim Dale is the best. Wil Wheaton does a great job too – loved him reading Ready Player One.

Funny thing about the Patrick O’Brien books my old neighbor was a relation of a person from those books, last name Lauriat.
Ooooo Jim Dale
