I’ve really enjoyed Gwen Bristow’s novels — Celia Garth, Jubilee Trail, Calico Palace, and Tomorrow is Forever. However, I’m not fond of the Plantation Trilogy.
Rose in winter kathleen woodwiss Love cherish me rebecca brandewyne……i loved these when i was younger……i dont know if you can get them on ereaders though
Katherine by Anya Seton or The Queen’s Grace by Jan Westcott (but not easily found – loved this fiction story of Henry VIII’s last wife and her love for Thomas Seymour)
As well as several mentioned above, I would recommend Christina Dodd’s historical. I also really love Galen Foley’s books. She is great about describing exactly how things look so you really feel like you are there. Also decent character development and just enough raciness. I also enjoyed Persia Woolley’s trilogy told from Guinevere’s point of view.
Francine Rivers has a couple of books that *might* qualify. Redeeming Love. It is EXCELLENT. Check her books out, they’re all good (though not all romance or historical) Her Mark of the Lion series (3 books) is spectacular, too.
There are lots of historical romances I like, but whenever this question comes up I always have the same answer – The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie – by Jennifer Ashley. It is completely unique. Sadly, the other books in this series don’t measure up.
The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.
I liked the Hamilton Affair. It was light on the romance and heavier on the historical but still very good ?
A Farewell To Arms sucked!!!
Lol. Hemingway not really known for his romances.

You know, I probably read this over 60 years ago, yet ir’s the one I think of. Will have to reread to see if I still love it.
Me too! I have it but have not reread in maybe 3 decades. Will be interesting to see if it holds up over the years.
@Robin I’ll get it from the library.
I was 14 when I first read it and discovered adult passion. It was a wonderful introduction
