Because I want to go to places where I know I will never get to. I want to relish in romances that I can only dream about, and want. I want to lose myself in another life for an hour or so every evening.
Why? ‘cos I love to read… to go on adventures, escape dreary days, expand my vocabulary & interests, etc, etc.etc…There are lots ,ore reasons why I read..but hope you get the idea!
Because it’s like breathing to me. It calms my soul. I have 6 kids, and we never had enough money to travel, l was able to in books. My grandfather, who had a 7th grade education (the oldest of 9), taught me to read at age 3. He always told me how important it was. My mom is a huge reader, and all 6 of my kids read.
Entertainment. Relaxation. Escape. I can immerse myself in a world in a way I couldn’t possibly achieve with television or film. A magical phenomenon for which there are no English words that I know. Also to improve my own writing skills and to understand fiction better. To broaden and exercise my mind. And because I just love it – it is bliss. Who would turn down that?
I read for enjoyment. I read to learn something new. I read something old. I read to revitalize myself. I can’t imagine not reading or listening to books. When I listen to books if the narration is good but can keep me on the edge of my seat. I get more excited and involved and if I just read the book myself.
Because I enjoy it, escape from reality, live vicariously through someone else, entertainment, makes me to us my brain on something else than what’s going on in my head, to expand my knowledge and views.
It’s a natural part of my life since I was a child. It’s just like eating, sleeping, etc. If I had to discard all other forms of entertainment but one, I would choose books to entertain me, educate me, to help me understand people and the world better, to travel to far off places I know I will never go. I can’t imagine my life without books. ❤️
Been reading ever since I was little, Dad would take me to the library and I’d take out 10 books a month. Helps me relax and I enjoy it. Now the tradition continues as I take my 2 year old boy to the library ?
I LOVE TO READ!!!! I LOVE my life, my hubby, my kids, grands but I LOVE how when you read you get lost, you are in Paris, or on a farm or in a city, or on the moon, alone or in a roomful of people…….even if you have only minutes at a time to read, for that moment, you are in another place. Like time travel but no need for a machine, it’s in your mind. My mom was never interested in reading, she developed Alzheimer’s, in a way I feel I want to read even more now because there might come a day I cannot read, remember.
I read to escape to somewhere I would never be able to go. To keep my mind working properly and also as an escape from the pain and mind fog of fibromyalgia, and as a way to make sure I sit and rest so as not to push myself too far. Oh and to keep me sane when the children declare war on each other ?
Have done since I could read. Why a book is part of me I can’t be without a book. It helps me switch off . I lose myself in a book I’m taken to other places and into other people’s lives . As I suffer badly from anxiety I’ve noticed that I read more as I’ve got older it’s my form of meditation and my social life as I find it hard to go out without my family .
To quickly jump into another world. To calm myself! To learn about all sorts of things….even in most fiction! So many reasons! My sons former girlfriend sat at our dinner table and said “why should I read? I’m not in school anymore!” We tried to explain it but she never did get it! He moved on and the love of his life gets it! ?
To escape
Relaxes me
Because I’m anti social
Escape the day and relax
To be entertained, to escape and to learn.
I’m an addict.
To model my behavior for my children.
Love to read
To gain knowledge and pass the time.
always see people asking this qeustion but I don’t understand why people feel the need to ask.
Nobody ever asks “why do you watch TV” or “why do you listen to music” or “Why do you play sport”.
But why do you read, comes uo all the time, I don’t get it. ?
I agree! It’s a bloody silly question x
What a great question.. to escape !
Because I want to go to places where I know I will never get to. I want to relish in romances that I can only dream about, and want. I want to lose myself in another life for an hour or so every evening.
Let me count the reasons
1234566…………..
Stress reliever
The Adventure of course!!
To escape …
I’m an addict .. maybe a form of escapism for a little while !
To escape from the real world, exercise my imagination, it’s a personal experience (not like watching a movies with others), to learn, I love it!
Why not?
Initially I started reading to help with my focus. Now I read because I love the stories
For my brain and leisure
To be transported to a different world, entertainment, suspense, education, to laugh, to cry and for enjoyment. The list is endless!!!
Self care.
I read to escape. I live with anxiety and I find reading is the only thing that quiets my mind.
Escape
to learn
All the above for me
I’ve always read. Escapism, I suppose.
Adventure, knowledge, enlightenment, enjoyment.
Why? ‘cos I love to read… to go on adventures, escape dreary days, expand my vocabulary & interests, etc, etc.etc…There are lots ,ore reasons why I read..but hope you get the idea!
To get away
Because it’s like breathing to me. It calms my soul. I have 6 kids, and we never had enough money to travel, l was able to in books.
My grandfather, who had a 7th grade education (the oldest of 9), taught me to read at age 3. He always told me how important it was. My mom is a huge reader, and all 6 of my kids read.
It gives me great pleasure.
It takes me to different places I get to travel to different countries, times and cultures
Endless reasons but the top two are for enjoyment and to satisfy my thirst for knowledge.
Why do I breathe? Can’t help either.
So I don’t forget how to!
For pleasure 🙂
Reading is as necessary to me as breathing and I can’t imagine a life without books…
I agree Sandi
Because I couldn’t not read. It qould be like not breathing.
To learn and enjoy the adventures
To go someplace else when my world is not lovely..
Ditto
To escape
Why wouldn’t I?
Entertainment. Relaxation. Escape. I can immerse myself in a world in a way I couldn’t possibly achieve with television or film. A magical phenomenon for which there are no English words that I know. Also to improve my own writing skills and to understand fiction better. To broaden and exercise my mind. And because I just love it – it is bliss. Who would turn down that?
I enjoy it.
To lose myself in the stories and characters
Cause it’s relaxing to me
Why do I breathe? ?
It is relaxing and a positive hobby.
To clear my head
It takes me to different places in the world!
I read for enjoyment. I read to learn something new. I read something old. I read to revitalize myself. I can’t imagine not reading or listening to books. When I listen to books if the narration is good but can keep me on the edge of my seat. I get more excited and involved and if I just read the book myself.
To escape reality
To get lost in a world that is not real but so real to me at the time
Because reading completes my life.
To paraphrase a quote “why do I breath?”
I read as it helps me to relax
enjoy it, it’s like being in someone else’s world, takes my mind off things and helps with anxiety
For the enjoyment
Because I enjoy it, escape from reality, live vicariously through someone else, entertainment, makes me to us my brain on something else than what’s going on in my head, to expand my knowledge and views.
To challenge my perspective and live 1000 different lives
As an escape from life.
Two reasons for me: to escape and to relax ?
For the peace
I read because it is fun.
Escape
“So i don’t end up a waitress at a Waffle House.” -Bill Hicks
Escapism which leads to relaxation
What is everybody escaping from?
Kids!
@Concetta the everyday
Because you are never lonely with a good book on the go!!!
Escape and stress relief
Relaxation
To get the hell away from today’s real world.
Because reading is part of me……
to travel
to go to places I could never dream of. here’s to the authors bringing them to life.
It helps me stay calm and escape for a while.
Why not?
To exercise my brain and to escape to a different world
Escape
Keep my mind busy
To allow my imagination to run free.
Pleasure
Adventure!
Because books are awesome!
Because I am
To quiet my mind
All of the above! ?
I could not imagine my life without books…..
Relaxing
Why not?
Because I’m an introvert.
Escape
It’s a part of who I am.
I am a curious fellow. Desire for knowledge.
Been reading ever since I was little, Dad would take me to the library and I’d take out 10 books a month.
Helps me relax and I enjoy it.
Now the tradition continues as I take my 2 year old boy to the library ?
Same reason I breathe x
Reading is everything. Books/stories are forever
My me time! ?
I find reading really helps my emotional health as I’m a worrier. I get to go to a different place and forget my problems for awhile.
To learn, dream, escape, find some happy places ?
I love how you described reading!
@Karen ❤ it’s pure love …
When I read it takes me to another place where I don’t have to participate. I can be like a fly on the wall and just flow with the story.
Oh and to keep me sane when the children declare war on each other ?
To travel into other peoples minds and find a kindred spirit!
I enjoy it and it relaxes me.
Escape from grief.
Mostly to learn something new. But, at times I like to just read for entertainment.
To escape my reality
To help me fall asleep
Relaxingx
Have done since I could read. Why a book is part of me I can’t be without a book. It helps me switch off . I lose myself in a book I’m taken to other places and into other people’s lives . As I suffer badly from anxiety I’ve noticed that I read more as I’ve got older it’s my form of meditation and my social life as I find it hard to go out without my family .
Relaxation and it takes you away, escapism for me
Beats reality !
To escape reality
I have no choice xD
Form of entertainment and education.
It’s relaxing, a good book can be better than a film
To relax or learn something new.
Escapism! X
To be carried to another reality and be immersed in it. For pure joy
My favorite me time! ? ? ?
I enjoy it so much
Relaxation, and I’m just a person who has been I. Love with books since childhood. I have to have a good book. It relaxes the mind
Reading allows me to enter into new worlds and new lives and its very relaxing.
Escape
Because I can ?
Enjoyment
To switch off..
To “meet” other people….. I love getting to know the characters..
Escapism
To dream, to step into someone else’s reality, to see different perspectives, to just escape this humdrum world at times and because I love it!
Lego ergo sum. ?
I love a good story and it amazes me what people have lived through or can imagine and write down.
To escape.
Escapism
I love reading it’s just better then tv
@Sam But sometimes you need a break so I watch and maybe you should look at public television! They have some really really good shows.
