It seems to be triggering to a lot of people. Personally, I can’t exactly feel triggered or affected in a way that some people do. I don’t exactly have that kind capacity to do that. I haven’t read it yet, but plan to soon.
I watched the show… Was NOT amused or impressed with the lack of options presented, while supporting suicide as a valid and rational way of coping… Have not read the book, but I am curious if the written work has any redeeming qualities…
I felt it was a great book and that teenagers should read it especially if they are going threw tough stuff it will help them feel that there are other ways to go about something other then suicide
The book was excellent but, yes, had a lot of triggers for me. The show was even more intense. (I’d have to say better, too.) It affects people and, if anything, I hope it makes kids realize how they hurt each other. Do they really want to be the reason that a person kills themself? Unfortunately, there are kids that still think it’s funny or that hateful/vindictive. Those kids need to be stopped by someone if they actually want someone to die. I’d hope shows like this give the people around that kind of person the courage to step in and say something to someone in a position to stop it.
I read it this morning. I think that empathetic people will be more receptive to the storyline. I liked that it dealt with a difficult topic from both the inside and the outside view through a dual narrative. It was easy to hate the obviously bad people but it really points out that even small put downs or careless neglect can have catastrophic outcomes to someone who is already so beaten down that they have no resilience reserves left in them.
I liked it, but it is very triggering for some. It had me crying.
I agree, I wish I was a character in that book and would help Hannah and be a good friend to her
I agree. So many could have stopped it. I’ve never watched the show, but a lot of people were talking about it.
Is the book better or show
I’m not sure if it’s good for people to read/watch, but I’m sure about one thing, it shows how people affect others with their stupidity of mind
@Sian to be honest I didn’t watch the movie, but i think that the book is better
Leah how is it
I liked it, read it a few times and its just a powerful book. Different from the show but it does send an important message which i think people miss.

I like the show, a lot. The book, I didn’t care for.

Actually, a lot of teens I’ve come across tend to enjoy shouting, “It glamourises suicide”.
series was better
It’s a great book. The show is better, though, according to both me and my mom.

Pretty underwhelming.
Overrated
I loved the book it’s really tear-jerking in some parts definitely worth a read
The book was underwhelming but the series was great.
I read it. Didn’t really like it as much as I thought I would. I also didn’t find where she …… can we talk about a spoiler here??
I have not read it yet but my girls both did and loved it
i didn’t like the book but the series is ok
It’s on my TBR, but as someone who has attempted suicide in the past, I’m afraid it may be too triggering.
Read it: didn’t like it. My bff forced me to watch the tv show: hated it.
I read it in one sitting and I thought it was really well written have not seen the series though
I find the story dragging 🙁 im sorry to those who love the story.maybe i should watch the series first..
It was beautifully written. The mini series didn’t do it justice.

Bottom line – be kind. Always.
