I didn’t find it realistic as someone who is that depressed wouldn’t have the energy to put all that together before taking their life. However, I found that the kids in my classroom who read it became kinder and more gentle with their classmates. The books succeeds in helping us feel more compassion toward others. The author was kind to respond to a message I sent him. I found many quotes in the book that I related to and appreciated. I think it is worth reading.
Book: I loved Clay, I loved his parents. I loved the tight knit talk about anything home setting that I got from it.. Series: when watching the series I think I actually hated more characters than I liked. Out of the few I didn’t have much of a problem with I would say Tony was one of my favorites. He was just trying to help. .
The book was better than the show But let me tell you some things One of my good friends killed himseld yesterday. He left a brand new baby and an little girl without a father. And hundreds of friends wondering why There is no do over There is no tapes. There is no watching to see how people are broken and shattered after that
I’ve run on countless suicides in my career It is the most selfish heart breaking thing ever
So please if you are even thinking along those lines go to the emergency room. Call 911 tell them you need help.
Sweet heart it does. And I’ve been in the dark place. But I promise that there is always someone who would be there to help you. It’s scary to reach out. And life is hard. And sometimes it sucks so bad. But then you look around. And you see your pets. Or your family. A good friend. A sunrise. It’s worth those little things to fight for. So promise me. That if you start feeling like you don’t have a way out that you will get help
I promise! You are such a beautiful person Kathleen i wonder how can anyone hurt someone like u..i wish the best for u! May you achieve whatever u want in life!
One of my close friends committed suicide in HS and I am debating this story. Part of me feels like I would just be pissed half the time. The other part would wonder if I was one of the thirteen reasons. I don’t like stuff that glamorizes suicide, esp to teens.
The book is in my TBR pile. I watched the series, but I didn’t really like it as much as everyone else. I have very mixed feelings about it. I felt like the first 2/3 of the series everyone was annoying and whiny and awful and completely unrelatable. And then the last maybe 4 episodes were much more elevated and finally gave the characters some depth. I don’t think it glamorized suicide, but I do think that it put Hannah on a pedestal too often and made it seem like it’s okay to torture your classmates back for torturing you. It gave it this whole “an eye for an eye” vibe that I don’t think is a good lesson for teens to learn.
The book is fairly different to the show! Although they have the same story line etc. Although I rarely prefer film over the book in this case I did, mainly because It was so much more engaging and you got to no more about all the characters. But I would recommend reading the book It is good! Xx
I’ve just started to watch it and it’s Ok. Unfortunately, I also just finished watching “Sense8” which was incredible and intriguing .. sadly, Netflix has stopped it at season 2 .. so you can imagine the huge difference from watching Sense8 to 13 reason why
I didn’t watch it yet, but I did read the book. The book didn’t have anything that was near as bad as what I heard about the show. So interested to see what you think. I plan to watch it soon.
I watched the show for a while on Netflix but other shows seemed to get in the way. I think it was just too juvenile for me, a 77-year-old woman ‘way past my own teens.
Not me. I found the show to be supportive of suicide as a problem solver while down playing, ignoring, or downright condemning other less harmful options. My school teacher Nephling tells me he and some other colleagues are already seeing fallout amongst their highschools students. I have a 17 year old girl who’s life I have been DESPERATELY trying to save, and she now tells me (after watching the show) that she thinks suicide is brave and noble… brave and noble. Let that sink in for a moment. I don’t really care what anyone says about it drawing attention to a subject that is often ignored. If THIS is the kind of thoughts our teens are having after viewing, it’s not a good thing, and you will never hear me praise a thing which encourages this magnitude of self destructive thinking.
I could just not relate to the characters
I see..but it was kinda depressing knowing how these things costed a girl her life
The book was horrible the show was great
Who is ur favourite character??
Alex and Hannah
I liked the book, but I haven’t watched the show. Hugs to you.
How was the book? I’m thinking of buying it..is it worth it?

May your friend rest in peace? You are right..pain does not end..it just transfers to other people..

The book is awesome… but I haven’t watch the series yet, can’t afford to watch it, though.
Loved the show! Getting books ASAP
Someone told me that the book isn’t worth it! Don’t know if I’ll buy it or not..who is ur favourite character though??
Girl I’m weird so from the show I literally love them all. Some I’d punch in the face but still love.
Some like Courtney and Bryce..!?
Like I said I liked them all. I was about to rewatch the show again. I hope the books are good.
I liked both. The show adds a lot more to it. The book is entirely about Clay and his experiences listening to the tapes. I can’t wait for Seaosn 2!
Me too!
i liked both
I enjoy watching it. Just watched the first 4 episodes so far.
“You are the slowest one yet” ??
Keep on watching..you’ll unravel many secrets
I liked both, I read the book so that I could watch the series, but the book itself really captivated me
The show was done very well.
Fabulous
I watched the series but haven’t read the book. I feel it should stop now and not make a second series.
Yesss but its fairly different to the book. I would recommend reading It xx
Finished the book last night and was really dissappointed, didnt like the book at all
Liked both the tv series and the book
not sure how I felt about it
The show isn’t my favourite but it’s book and honestly I’m not that excited for season 2 I think it should have had just 1 season
I love the show but I didn’t connect as much to the book.
Of the book.. Haven’t watched the show yet ?

I’ve been over it for awhile now. Feel it’s overrated.
I liked the book, I didn’t love it though. I couldn’t stand the series.

I totally agree with you
I’ve heard the book is structured a bit different though so I’m definitely going to read it and see if I like it a little better.
I heard that the show is much better than the book
Darn! hahaha

The book is even worse.
I’ve just started to watch it and it’s Ok. Unfortunately, I also just finished watching “Sense8” which was incredible and intriguing .. sadly, Netflix has stopped it at season 2 .. so you can imagine the huge difference from watching Sense8 to 13 reason why
I read the book but have not seen the show. I think it took me a little over 4 hours to finish the book. It was amazing.

What’s better book or show?
I heard the show is better
Ok…I’ll watch it. I’ve not read the book but I’ve heard that the story is something like very gloomy and sad.
@Kish I also suggest you to watch the show then. ?
I didn’t see the show I just heard about it in trailer but I love it
Wish I read the book first
Don’t bother reading.
