Funny bc I am just watching the show now. I read the book and completely disliked it. The show is done much better.
What episode are you on rn ?
Episode 12. Almost to the end.
What was wrong about the book?
I guess I just felt that she was more whiney and didn’t connect with the character. I started to see her reasons for what she did but not enough to commit suicide. Not that anything ever really is. I still don’t think in the show she should have either but it just connected better for me. Plus it’s a little different. More intense.
I watched the movie too, I haven’t read the book. I ordered it .
I read the book a long time ago. In the book Clay listens to the tapes all in one night. I liked the way the show broke it up (even though I hated that it took him forever to listen to them).
I felt the same way but then I tried to imagine myself in his position and how involved he was in the whole thing and I would have done the same. But I still wanted him to just get it over with!
I watched it but I don’t think I’ll read it.
I watched it but won’t read it.
The book was so much better than the show!
What did you like about it?
I liked how it made me think while reading it and after. I made me think about how this type of thinking goes on every day, and if a couple people would have reached out, maybe she wouldn’t have had to even get to the point of making the tapes. It might just be me, but I love reading books like this because it just makes me think a lot of what ifs. Does that make sense?
I’ve read the book but I haven’t had a chance to watch the show yet.
I read the book a long time ago but haven’t watched the show. I enjoyed the book.
I liked the book better
The book was better imo, but I read it back around 2009.
I’ve read the book, didn’t like it that much and couldn’t go more than 15 min into the first ep of the Netflix show.
The book was waaay better! I read it many years ago when it first published.
The show ruined it. As usual.
I found the book to be worth the read. I don’t think it was better per se, just very different. I feel like they changed how the main guy (I forget his name) reacts to listening to the tapes in the show. I do think the book was great and I didn’t find issue with the show, either.
I can’t say for sure if the book is better or worse than the show because I haven’t watched the show for personal reasons, but I will say that the book is one of my favorites and has had an immense impact on me. I read back in like 2010 or 2011 and I’ll still reread it to this day. It really opened my eyes and my mind to the world around me and how my actions can have a significant impact on others around me. I highly recommend reading it
Read the book. It was amazing. There are enough differences that reading the book won’t be just a rehash of the show.
I really liked it as an audiobook with the two narrators!
I do want to read it now. I watched the series and would like to see how it differs
I did both and really enjoyed them. All though there are some aspects the show changed/added from the books
I thought the show was better tbh. Never thought I’d say that haha
Book is amazing, but I do think the show did it justice.
Currently reading the book and I dont know of it’s the same as the movie but I absolutely loving the book 🙂
I read it and I loved it. To me, it’s such a great example of the snowball effect.
I’m opposite of most here. The show was different from the book of course, but I actually liked it better ?
I read the book long before I ever watched the show, the show is a lot different and I think it pulls your heart strings a little bit more than the book ever did but I think it might have been because of where I was during the two times. I always say that you should read the book, especially if you liked the movie!
I did both and enjoyed the book better than the show
I read the book a few years ago and loved it! I haven’t watched the show and NEVER want to
I read it and seen it. I would read it.
I like the show and the book but to me the book was better.
The book is amazing!!!!
The book and the show are quite different and the book is good. I would recommend.
Listen to it as an audiobook! It was fantastic to hear it instead !
I read it, and so much emotions I dropped the book for a pause
and a very triggering contents ( so does the TV serie)
The book and show are way different so it’s honestly up to you but I enjoyed the book mostly because I have depression and have been dealing with it for nine years so I kind of understood her pain to an extent
The books are always better then the shows or movies. Defiantly read it!?
I read the book first and thought it was better than the movie. My daughter saw the movie first and thought it was better than the book. Just know they are very different in my opinion.
I liked it a lot
i liked them both. I almost feel like i liked the show better, they were very differnt but both great.
I liked the book waaay better than the show. But, I give the show credit. It was still good.
I love the book, but I do have to say that the show is better. Both are very very different from each other, but both are amazing
You can read it… Its amazing book.. With every chapter I felt very much connected.
The show is good. The book it’s ok. I watch it before reading it, there’s a few differences but to be honest I liked the show better. And I’m a strong supporter of books before movies ?
You should read it. The ending is different in the book.
You should definitely read it! They had to make pretty significant changes to adapt it into a TV show
The series is better than the book
I didn’t care for the book. You can read it in 3 hours from cover to cover.
Its a good book. The show was good too but they changed how she died from the book to the TV show.
I’m almost halfway through and it’s just un-put-down-able!
The book is quite different but definitely worth a read!
I strongly dislike that book. Thre show is tolerable because of the acting but I just hate the ploy and Hannah
I haven’t seen the show but the book was extremely emotional for me so i would definitely recommend reading it.
I didn’t like it.
To be perfectly honest, I don’t know how I feel about the book. It’s not perfect, mind you. There are obvious plotholes, the character building is flawed but the story is very emotional and sad which is why it probably strikes a chord within people. I have seen reviews praising it and saying that the book helped them, also I have seen people criticising it since they think it’s glorifying suicide. But I guess if u liked the series then u can give a shot at reading the book. The last few chapters really made me sad. 🙁 🙁
I loved the book, however never seen the show ??♀️
It’s good but the story was too sad, I finished it with difficulty
Same…..watched the show , haven’t read the book
I read the book because I loved the show. One of those rare cases where tv does a better job. Did not enjoy the book at all
I have copie but didnt read it yet
Ok, so the opinions are quite mixed. I basically just heard bad things about the book by some friends I talked to. But I think I will give it a try. Maybe I can get it at a library
My friends all said the book was better than the show
I read the book a few years ago and I remember really disliking it but I ended up really enjoying the TV show.
You should give it a try. It’s quite different from the TV series, but not in a bad way imo
I disliked the book. For me, it was much ado about nothing.
Yes I read it in highschool and I thought it was good
I read the book long before the show and I loved it but then I watched the show and I kinda felt like the show ruined the book a little for me and whilst a part of me still loves the book I think after watching the show I think those that watched the show and haven’t read the book shouldn’t read the book unless it’s a massive desire or wait 5 years or something cause the two are really different and I honestly think they should be seperated. But I don’t know that’s just my opinion
Not recommending it.
I haven’t seen the show but I do have the book. I was wondering if I should read it with my 15 year old daughter?
In my opinion yes, it open the door to a discussion about two issues bullying and suicide.
I’m thinking we might work it into our homeschooling curriculum.
