Janet Evanovich’s numbered books about Stephanie Plum. They are a hoot & can’t help but cheer you up. There was 1 that I laughed so hard I almost had an accident.
Rohinton Mistry’s A Fine Balance. When you see the extreme poverty in India at the time the book takes place, it will give you perspective and get out of the problems in your own head. It definitely made me grateful for my far from perfect life.
Lift and Separate by @Marilyn The One That Got Away by @Leigh Whistlin’ Dixie in a Nor’Easter and the whole Dixie series by @Lisa The Boyfriend Swap by Meredith Schorr ???
“Feel good” books don’t make me feel good, especially not if they are about women in my demographic. Reading about people whose lives are drastically different from mine–even dark tales–those give me perspective, get me out of the problems in my own head, and fill me with gratitude, even when things aren’t perfect. Why just escape when you can escape and return wiser and improved?
Evanovich, yes, but almost anything that will take your mind off yourself. The Thornbirds by Colleen McCullough, The Gathering Land Trilogy by Conrad Richter. Watch out for books that are themselves depressing and DO watch out for withdrawing from life into the printed page … Here’s another potboiler: Peachtree Road by Anne Rivers Siddons. That and Outer Banks are her best. Feel better!
@Vicki, Whistlin’ Dixie in a Nor’easter Is 1st in @Lisa‘s trilogy Dixie series. And as far as @Haywood , just like Lisa you can’t go wrong but the whole Red Hat series is great and then there’s Queen Bee at Mimosa Branch and Queen Bee Goes Home Again ??? As far as stand-alones I love Ladies of the Lake Wife in Law Waking Up in Dixie snd Out of Warranty I hope you love them!!????
@Kristy Thanks. I explored Amazon before asking. I see my Everest-like reading pile getting a little bigger in the near future. I love southern fiction, by the way, so I’m excited to try these two out.

True to the Highlander. Lots of humor, adventure, mystery, time travel and a fairy. https://www.amazon.com/True-Highlander-Novels-Loch-Moigh-ebook/dp/B00EZCY0L4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513217992&sr=8-1&keywords=true+to+the+highlander

Jan Karon’s Mitford books – first one is At Home in Mitford. I reread them because they are comforting.
Evanovich, yes, but almost anything that will take your mind off yourself. The Thornbirds by Colleen McCullough, The Gathering Land Trilogy by Conrad Richter. If Fanny Flagg doesn’t have you laughing out loud, you are in a sad state.

I think the answer depends on what you hope your emotional outcome to be.
For great laughs…the Rosie Project. Then the Rosie Effect. Also laughed out loud while reading Let’s Pretend This Never Happened.
I loved the Rosie books!! They were fantastic!
@Katherine don’t you think those would cheer Daniel up?
ABSOLUTELY 100%!!
The Copenhagen Affair.
