I absolutely recommend Sir Terry Pratchett 100%! Anytime I’m feeling depressed, he’s always been there for me and can make me laugh when no one else can
@Megan when i was reading that book i have such a good time. And my husband used to look at me as if I was crazy hahaha. I never have read shopaholic series. Have you read it?
I love books that have a mystery to them. Lawrence Block wrote a series about an alcoholic PI called Matthew Scudder which I got really into years ago. He also wrote a couple of books about a burglar (Bernie Rhodenbarr) who owned a bookstore who kept getting involved in all kinds of illegal stuff. The frequent dialogues between Bernie and a female friend who owns a pet grooming business kept me in stitches each time I read and reread the books.
If you’ve watched MONK, read the novels. They’re written by the same writer of the show and they are hysterical! Anything by Erma Bombeck. If you can handle some rough language, The Martian by Andy Weir. Off to be the Wizard by Scott Meyer. Some others I’d suggest have already been mentioned. Fannie Flagg’s Fried Green Tomatoes. The majority of what I read is fantasy/sci-fi, mysteries and adventures. With some nonfiction and historical things thrown in the mix.
Erma Bombeck or Janet Evonovitch. Any book by either author. Bombeck is from back in the 60’s and 70’s. So if you like a look back at the “good old days” she’s for you. Evonovitch is more contemporary. I read everything she writes. Her books are quick reads with memorable characters and are hysterical.
The Shelby Nichols Adventures Series by Colleen Helme — more funny if you can listen to the audio books as read by Wendy Tremont King. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie.
Carl Hiassan … I read Skinny Dip … his YA book Hoot was made into movie. Dave Barry is funny too. Love these questions cuz then I’m forced to see what my fav writers have been up to. I knew Dave Barry was in band with Amy Tan sometimes Stephen King and roving cast of writers. Hard Listening – Coming June 18th 2013 http://www.rockbottomremainders.com/pages/hard-listening.html
Funny! Inspiring! I have to recommended this book! Whether or not your are/were a fan of Little House on the Prairie this book is a MUST read! I actually listened to the audible version which is read by the author herself and it was great! In between stories of life on set she talks about the abuse she experienced as a child and how she used that and her time as Nellie Oleson to become an activist to improve laws against child abuse. During the 80’s she also supported HIV/AIDS education and research. She truly is an inspiration.
Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson. I was listening to the audiobook while driving to work and almost had an accident from laughing so hard .
Check out Amy Poeppel—her books make me LOL!

There is some dark humor in the Matthew Scudder books but I wouldn’t call them funny. However the burglar books are hilarious.
Jen Lancaster books make me laugh. They’re not fiction and they’re just her own life experiences, but they’re hilarious!
