Are You There, God? It’s Me Margaret at 9. On the Road at 20. The Temple of the Golden Pavillion by Mishima right after 9/11. Bethenny Frankel’s A Place of Yes after baby #2 and Cialdini’s book Influence just this past year.
I know this is so stupid but the twilight series. I got so into it that I became a regular reader after that whereas before I never ever read. Now I read all the time and love to read!
I just finished Building Fences by Violet Howe and I have to say this one caught me off gaurd. This is going to be my favorite book of 2019…maybe EVER 🙂 The cover deceived me and I thought it was going to be a meh book…but noooo…and I just found out the author, Violet Howe has done a cover makeover to be released soon. I had the privileged of seeing the new cover and it’s suites the story sooo much better! NEW BOOK BOYFRIEND!
29 Gifts by Cami Walker, it’s a wonderful book which taught me that looking beyond myself and giving back adds to your mental, physical and even financial health.
Also that phrase “book boyfriend” reminds me – Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie rocked my world and I’m always looking for Phin Tucker around every corner ?
I don’t know that I have a “life changing” book, but I feel like books I have read over and over might be close to “life changing”. Those books are: Charlotte’s Web, Memoirs of a Geisha, Harry Potter Series, and Anne Frank.
Maya Angelous autobiographies. I have an e book that has all of them .. I think 4. I literally think about something from those books every day .. I read them over 4 years ago and still .. every day
Starring Sally J Freedman as Herself. It was the first book I ever bought in my own. I was 6 and too young to understand everything in it, but I loved it just the same. It was my Gateway Book.
Probably Ramona the Pest, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, and {seriously} Bitter. Each at very different stages of my life {obviously} but each had a major impact on my love of reading and my perception of the world. Bitter has gotten me through some rough times…
The Hobbit. I struggled through this one in high school and I STILL have bad memories of my teacher writing unpleasant comments on my test because I struggled with the book!
Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose sent me down the path of reading everything I could about Lewis and Clark and westward expansion. I’ve always loved history but that book caused me to read dozens of others and take many trips to places I’ve read about.
Too Old to Cry, Too Young to Die. I was 11 when my 4 year old cousin was diagnosed with leukemia and I wanted desperately to understand what was happening and how I could help him. Written beneath the book’s title line was “you can learn a lot from kids with cancer.” Indeed, I did and here I am, almost 42 years later, remembering those lessons. I often wonder about the precious subjects of the book, too.
Oooh another one – Native Son by Richard Wright. I just read it’s being made into a movie, and it hit me like a gut punch, the way I felt reading that book.
Small, Great Things. Made me pay attention to things that I say or do and look at all of the ways they could be interpreted, not just the way i intend them to be interpreted.
Go Ask Alice… probably read it too young (11-12) but I’m grateful because I was NEVER tempted to try any drugs stronger than weed because of it!! ❤️❤️❤️
