For me it was A child called it. I am not easily disturbed at all, I have a horrid infatuation with anything horror or gore..ect. Still the child abuse in that book upset me to a point I couldn’t re-read it and didn’t read the other books.
A book called scarred by Sophie andrews.. Its her memoir from being abused as a child and moves in into her adult life.. Her abuse is quite graphic… Found it hard to read..
No thinking necessary….. American Psycho! I skipped over parts of it because it was so awful. I had a friend that actually brought it out to her bbq and burned it after she read it, couldn’t have it in her house.
I just read that for the first, very disturbing. His control over his”family” and the lack of concern for victims unbelievable. Also of concern is fact that Manson begged not to be released from prison, before horrible murders were committed.
The Blonde Geisha. Found out after I started reading it that it was “erotica,” but the unnerving part is that all sexual organs were described using vegetables (think about his large mushroom – ??)
I think it was called “The Great White”. It was about a young girl who was deaf because her father fed her antibiotics. After he died, her uncle takes her to Antarctica with a young man, thinking that there is a civilization under the ice cap. It was disturbing to think that your own father would make you deaf because of his own delusions!
Horror stories don’t really scare me. I think the most disturbing book I ever read was honestly Lord of the Flies. Everything with Piggy at the end, and thinking about those boys being barely children is much more DISTURBING to me.
I did see it. It was good, but I didn’t feel like the most disturbing aspects of the book translated as well onto screen. The book was just deeply unsettling for me.
It’s brilliant. It’s a bit like Nabokov’s Pale Fire in terms of experimentalism, but also not like anything else. Took him 10 years to write, I’ve heard!
One cannot leave out Trumbo’s chilling anti-war classic Johnny Got His Gun, the story of a horribly injured soldier–without arms, legs, eyes, face, tongue, essentially a mind and great sensibility deprived of all senses. Should be required reading for all heads of state.
A Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer,House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski ,Identical by Ellen Hopkins (sexual abuse ,incest themed),Story of the Eye by Georges Bataille ,Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks and Tiger, Tiger by Margaux Fragoso
I can’t remember the title but it was a book of short stories by Stephen King. One of the stories was a man that was a surgeon and he survived a plane crash. He was alone on an island where he lived off eating his body parts ? it was so twisted, yet so good.
American Psycho ~ the fact that he was a regular guy making it on Wall Street and having that little thing on the side…. at the end, he tells his lawyer and laughs…. a bit creepy…
For me it was A child called it. I am not easily disturbed at all, I have a horrid infatuation with anything horror or gore..ect. Still the child abuse in that book upset me to a point I couldn’t re-read it and didn’t read the other books.
His brother has some books out too. Robert Pelzer. I read them. It’s pretty twisted
I might have to look that up to see it from his point of view. I don’t if i can stomach it though.
They were tough but I didn’t find them as graffic as David Pelzer
a Child called It. So sad that it’s true
A book called scarred by Sophie andrews.. Its her memoir from being abused as a child and moves in into her adult life.. Her abuse is quite graphic… Found it hard to read..

Have you seen the movie?
No.
May be worth a watch if you get the opportunity
I did see it. It was good, but I didn’t feel like the most disturbing aspects of the book translated as well onto screen. The book was just deeply unsettling for me.
I completely agree
The Painted Bird
Flowers in the Attic by V C Andrews. Still one of my all time favorite authors!
I have a child called It, but I don’t know if I want to read it now.
I have it too, and I haven’t read it yet for pretty much the same reason!
I could hardly stomach the reviews on kindle. Awful:(
Its tough but worth it

Lord of the Flies
The Exorcist.
Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem
I had no idea this was a book. Do you know if it was before or after the movie? I didn’t even know Rob Zombie was a writer :/
I think it was before the movie. In my opinion it’s a very disturbing book :/
OMG it was years ago . A child called it. by Dave Pelzer.
Lord of the Flies
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart – the ending was just a little disturbing to me…
I was going to Start, We Were Liars this evening.
I really liked this book, though I can understand why you’d find it a bit disturbing
Speak
Sleepers and Defending Jacob.
Disturbing, but, two fantastic books!!!!
They really were.
The Association by Bently Little.
Intensity by Dean Koontz
I really liked it, and I remember feeling really nervous reading it
@Paula what got me was that all took place in the span of 24 hours. I read it in the span of 24 hours. ALL that happened in that time frame. Omg!
I don’t remember the title but it was a memoir of a man with multiple personality disorder. Fascinating but disturbing.
Misery by Stephen King.
Flowers in the Attic.
Sybil
Mark Z Danielewski’s House of Leaves
I’m really looking forward to reading this one very soon
It’s brilliant. It’s a bit like Nabokov’s Pale Fire in terms of experimentalism, but also not like anything else. Took him 10 years to write, I’ve heard!
Hopefully won’t take me that long to read lol
No, but it’ll stay with you for that long!
stephen king books- I stop reading his books years ago-Koontz as well
A Child Called It… There are multiple books. It’s a sort of autobiography… Also, Finding Fish and Who Will Cry for the Little Boy?
A child called it, the lost boy and a man named Dave..all accounts of child abuse very unsettling
The other three books are of the same kind. Very unsettling as well…
@MackenZie i bet they are, i know those three were
We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver is one.
One cannot leave out Trumbo’s chilling anti-war classic Johnny Got His Gun, the story of a horribly injured soldier–without arms, legs, eyes, face, tongue, essentially a mind and great sensibility deprived of all senses. Should be required reading for all heads of state.

“Blaze” by Richard Bachman who turned out to actually be Stephen King…not a King fan.
Steven Kings rose madder
