A bit of an aside perhaps but after a mate of had read a crime novel set in Finland Amazon recommended my book set in Middlesbrough. That said the area was invaded by Vikings so there might be something in it.
Oh I will. Really enjoyed this 1! I don’t mind the grit I enjoy the erm honesty of these authors! Life doesn’t get glossed over so these shouldn’t if you know what I mean?
Mankell, Nesbø and Larsson were recommended by people I know who watch TV and film dramas, which we dont. I had some spare Audible credits so bought the books. Unrelentingly depressed and depressing main characters. Glad you can return books to audible if you dont like them.
Go for Nordic Noir authors before any others. Just moved to Norway and can’t wait to be proficient enough to read some of the authors that have not been translated into English and other Scandinavian books translated into Norwegian.
I struggle with these Scandinavian crime. I find the names and places hard to pronounce and it kind of spoils the flow for me!
Haven’t read a bad one yet! ?
Love ’em. Here’s 3 I can recommend wholeheartedly http://www.lucyvhayauthor.com/best-of-3-nordic-noir/
I’ve read the Neston. Thought it was good, but as good as his Harry Hole books.
Think my favourite here is THE BIRD TRIBUNAL
Just finished Midnight Sun and thought it was really well written.

Thoroughly enjoy Jo Nesbo’s books and Lars Kepler is another favourite of mine too.
I read the dragon tattoo book and, apart from the quirky Salander character, found it pretty turgid and, in the end pretty sordid too. A no from me.
I don’t enjoy them, I find them too difficult to follow.
Love them! Read them over anything else.
Karin Fossum, Henning Mankell, Jo Nesbo, Arne Dahl…….could go on for pages ?……but I won’t ?
I love them I have just finished reading Death Song by Jorgen Brekke I well recommend it
Never read any. But love Hans Christian Anderson, the Danish fairytales writer.
I’ve read and loved all the jo nesbo ( harry hole) series.
Favourite? Mine is The Snowman!
Like any author. Some I like, some I don’t. Apart from accident of birth, I don’t see a connection.
Luv them. Dark & gritty & usually to the point.
I have some to read.
I love them ?
It’s something i thought i would never enjoy but i have to admit ive enjoyed quite a few recently.
Love them but I love all things scandawegian
Love camilla lackberg
She is a very good author
Sissel Jo Gazan is another very good author
Jo Nesbo Harry Hole series could read again and again x
I tend to like the Scandy noir! I read a book called Burial Rites and was set in Iceland and that was a cracker.
I’m listening to The Sandman by Lars Kepler. Borrowed via library audio books. It’s excellent! Gritty thriller
Love Lars Kepler! Need a strong stomach for some of them but really well written. Hope you go on to read others.

I really find them gripping. Mind you, some of the ‘killing methods’ are really bizarre
Too bleak
As long as they write a good story I don’t care where they are from!
I have started and given up on 3 of their authors books. Got my money back on each of them. Very depressing novels.
Can you name the authors?
