Stuart MacBride, Alex Gray, Helen Fitzgerald, Christopher Brookmyre, Ian Rankin, Quentin Jardine, denzil Meyrick (bought not read yet), Emma Clapperton (bought not read yet) off the top of my head xxx
Oh @Jason she is one of our club authors and really good. Her books are all different though. I have read her most recent 3 and one of her old ones but bought a few and think I have one as a giveaway ? xxx
Irene by Pierre Le Maitre is about a succession of murders based on classic crime novels and one is homage to Laidlaw. Read Irene first then managed to find Laidlaw in a charity shop. Was kinda spookey reading about a crime that I had read about in another novel! and both fiction!
I loved them because they were actually set in streets I walked along every day, set in the estate i lived in Drumchapel in Glasgow. Gave it that extra edge.
Interesting. I actually passed a man sitting on a bench on Friday who was reading a Laidlaw book. I was going to speak to him as it looked quite a new copy. I read them when i was a boy n got them on the kindle again a few yrs ago
I am sure I have seen new editions in Waterstones??? will have to hunt them out as the original Laidlaw was pretty good if I remember and always good to read something vintage!
Ian Rankin, val Mc Dermid, Stuart MacBride, James Oswald, Ed James, Denzel Meyrick, Mark Douglas-Home, also set in Scotland Ann Cleeves Shetland Books. Historical crime Shona MacLeod set in old Aberdeen.
His main character is a sea detective (oceanologist) so can work out tide patters etc. Then can trace/guess/work out the movement of bodies etc. He has written 3 books. The Sea Detective, The Woman who walked into the Sea, and The Malice of Waves. All set in Scotland.
I made a mistake earlier – the historical crime novelist’s name is Shona Maclean. Set in Aberdeen in the late 1600’s. She is the niece of Alisdair Maclean. I worked with her husband so getting her name wrong is really bad!
I’ve never even heard of any Scottish writers apart from Ian Rankin but never read any of them. Are they any good am i missing anything decent? Do I have to put them at the top of my tbr pile?!! Lol!???
Jock something or other, he wrote stope yer ticklin’, and then Caro Ramsay (except she scares the bajeezers out of me) and I enjoyed @Theresa Penance…and then there was @Alison sewing shadows together – good book that…better go as my porridge is getting cold…

I’m loving Chris Brookmyre’s Jasmin Sharp series. Best to read in order: Where The Bodies Are Buried, When The Devil Drives, Flesh Wounds (Bred in the Bone in US)
Jason – I’ve read one from him so far – The Burrymen War, perhaps he isn’t typically a crime fiction writer. It’s a book mainly about a sectarian incident.
