If you like urban fantasy/horror, you’ll love the Nightside novels by Simon R. Green. The usual monsters (vamps, werewolves, zombies, ghosts) are mere backdrops; Green has created truly unique characters.
My favorite is Robin Hobbs Realm of the Elderlings. Start at Assassins Apprentice. Other than that Red Sister by Mark Lawrence, Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss . I’m relatively new to the genre so I haven’t read all that many but these are excellent.
Trudi Canavans Black Magician trilogy are a good place to start with her, Brandon Sanderson either Mistborn or Reckoners series good place to start with him.
For fantasy with a lot of humour Sir Terry Pratchetts Discworld books starting point for these either Mort or Guards! Guards!
Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern series; Piers Anthony’s Incarnations of Immortality series, Magic of Xanth series, Apprentice Adept series, pretty much anything he wrote actually; Terry Brooks has The Sword of Shannara and all it’s sequels, and The Magic Kingdom of Landover series; Melanie Rawn has the Dragon Prince series; Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera series is a favorite….. can you tell that fantasy is my favorite genre?!!
I like the Arrows trilogy by Mercedes Lackey.
YES!!!! My favorites!!!!

The Hero and the Crown/The Blue Sword, Robin McKinley.
The Blue Sword is one of my favorites. I also like, ‘So you want to be a Wizard? and the rest of that trilogy.
Tad Williams wrote The Dragonbone Chair, The Stone of Farewell, and to Green Angel Tower, which are very good.
The Prydain Chronicles, Redwall, and The Last Unicorn sound good today…
Check out the Moonshae Trilogy by Douglas Niles. The Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms books are excellent. Very Dungeons and Dragons feel. ?
The Book of Lost Things by John Connelly.
