I read Pride and Prejudice two decades ago. So maybe I’ve forgotten a bit. But based on whatever I can recall about the two, my vote definitely goes to War and Peace
If you’re going to read Tolstoy, I would suggest that you should begin with Anna Karenina. It’s just a bit easier than War & Peace, with only a few characters and not quite as long. And it’s much better than Pride & Prejudice.
The one book I never finished was “War and Peace.” Of course, I was 14 when I tried to read it, which may have been the problem, ha! I will have to try it again one of these days . . . .
I just read an interview with former President Jimmy Carter and in answer to the ? what one book would you recommend that all Americans read, he relied War and Peace. I just bought my copy yesterday!
Depends on your mood. Do you want wit and romance and a happy end? Choose P&P. Do you want history, detailed descriptions and the depth of a human being? Choose War and Peace. Both are excellent in their own way, but you have to be in the right mood for their style and story.
Pride and Prejudice. No one really reads War and Peace 🙂 (I’m kidding, for pete’s sake).
Pride and Prejudice for sure!!
Pride and Prejudice!

Pride and Prejudice. And I like War and Peace, but I think the best time to start it is winter. It puts you in the right mood.
This puts you in a no-lose situation.
War and Peace all the way!!!

IMHO, Marscha is prejudiced against P&P. And I can say that because she’s sitting in my backyard right now.
@Janie hehe! Yes. I am.
Pride & Prejudice, the Anna Karenina & the War & Peace.
I already read Anna Karenina,so am on the right track..
I haven’t read war and peace but Pride and Prejudice has a fun, lighthearted tone and was a quick read for me. So may be a good place to start!

There won’t be any problem getting past the beginning of Pride and Prejudice.

I’ve read both… Pride and Prejudice.
Both are great. War and Peace is Tolstoy’s masterpiece. I read it twice??
Pride and Prejudice. Definitely. I have read it multiple times. Love the characters in the book! 🙂
