Recently read Sharp Objects and The Woman in the Window. I’m in the mood for a mystery next. Suggestions?
I’m almost finished with “Hotel On the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” and am enjoying it. I think I’m in the mood for a mystery next. Any suggestions. Like older English and some Norwegian ones and non-formula type ones. Recently read In A Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin Ten, Sharp Objects, and The Woman in the Window.
Great book.
Susie Steiner’s series with DS Manon Bradshaw. First one is Missing, Presumed. Really good.
Liked the book.
Bluebird Bluebird by Attica Locke and Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann were the big winners of 2018 Edgar Awards given by mystery writers of USA. https://mysterywriters.org/mwa-announces-the-2018-edgar-award-winners/
I read Bluebird Bluebird it was excellent!
For Nordic try Asa Larsson or Camilla Lackberg. For English try Susan Hill’s Simon Serailler novels.
As I have mentioned, I liked the Second Girl by David…oh, I’ll look it up. David Swinton, I think. It’s a crime novel. The content’s a little tough but not as bad as Sharp Objects.
Sharp Objects was very heavy/different for sure.
I liked All the Missing Girls
I would recommend Susan Sloan’s books especially An Isolated Incident and Guilt by Association. They were probably written about 2O years ago. Great books. Also the classic Rebecca which is my favorite book of all time!
I LOVED Guilt by Association!
@Lisa
I did too. However, if you haven’t read An Isolated Incident or Rebecca I encourage you to try them.
I was just going to recommend Rebecca. My favorite classic mystery and it’s very well written.
It’s the best! It never gets old. I reread it again this year?
I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid …. thriller/mystery
Great series by John Dunning
It starts with the Bookman’s wake.
I also liked Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. I like novels about decent people.
The Sandhamn Mystery series is set in the Swedish Archipelago
Twisted Prey by John Sandford
Peter May’s Lewis Man Trilogy is so well written.
Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. It’s a novel based on the true story of the last person executed in Iceland….a woman. The description of harsh life in the 1800’s is dark and haunting. Beautifully and harrowingly written.
I also just finished Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and enjoyed it but thought it needed more depth.
