London…it was great. I rate it a 4. I didn’t see The Martian as a scifi book even tho it obviously was so my anticipation of Artemis was that it WASN’T scifi. I don’t know that this is a genre I read often so it was a surprise and enjoyable. The main character is a smuggler, but likable. And the problems that she face are all pretty unique and the science is solid.
New York 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson – my favorite book of 2017. You’ll never read headlines about global warming the same. Great characters and moves along swiftly.
I enjoyed the story but it felt like it was written to be a screenplay instead of a novel. Unfortunately, I find a lot of modern fiction feeling that way.
The Left Hand of Darkness, Le Guin’s science is anthropology. LHD is about a planet whose humans are gender neutral most of the time, but, when they sexualize, never know from one time to the next if they will become male or female. It’s just flat out great, brilliant writing.
Someone recommended Bella Forrest’s The Girl Who Dared to Think and it was available. It’s a fast read, like most of Bella’s stuff. At first I was really miffed. But I think dystopian novels SHOULD make one feel that way.
did you enjoy it, I though it was fantastic
I did. I voted it pretty high. Andy Weir is a skilled author! I just want MORE!!!
I’m reading it now, loving it!
He’s great…the science is solid (so say the scientists I work with) and he left it open enough that we could get a series!!
Seveneves by Neil Stephenson is wonderful.
Have you ever read the John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War Series?
I will look into it, thanks
The Expanse series is very good. (And the tv series too!). I love the relationship of the ship’s crew.
I read the first, and watched the first season
I really enjoyed Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
agreed!!! I’m a fan of his
How about the Brilliance series by Marcus Sakey
never heard of it, I will check it out
I just finished it also!
Yes Neil Stephenson my favorite is Anathem
Kim Stanley Robinson and William Gibson. All that they wrote.
I second the Scalzi rec although Collapsing Empire is a bit easier in my opinion. Also Redshirts if you’re looking for something lighter!
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
I’m a fan of his. I really like the Pines, but not the tv show.
Is it good? Can you rate it from 1 to 5?
I rate Artemis at zero. Hated it.
Oh thanks.

I loathed it. Loved The Martian though.
It’s on my TBR list. You might try reading Seveneves by Neil Stephenson. Was one of my faves last year.

The Morcai Battalion
Leviathan Wakes by James Corey!
These seems familiar…I think I’ve read it. Or it’s on my shelf…
Good morning Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton was one of my favourites this year.

I love all Le Guin’s writing.
Breakers series!
The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber
