I think I’ve read around 10. It’s been a slow year on the reading front for lots of reasons, but I plan on that number increasing exponentially so that by the end of the year it’s much higher.
102, so far this year. (I think that’s roughly three a week, which is usually my average, give or take a big chunker, which slows the pace down some.) I usually read 150-160 books yearly. Sometimes more, sometimes a few less. ? ☮️??
No one’s competing, Jennifer. She was just asking out of curiosity. ? A lot of readers keep track on Goodreads or in their personal journals, just for ourselves, not to compete in any way. It’s about the pleasure of reading itself, whether it is one book, ten or a hundred. ☮️??
I like to keep track of all I’ve read, having the number of how much I’ve read, through Goodreads, is just an added bonus. Plus, as someone who has dyslexia, seeing how well I’ve done in a year makes me feel good. I don’t believe most of us see it as a race or competition You could have just not responded to the post if you didn’t agree with it ?
@Leah My son has dyslexia. I can certainly see why you’d be proud of your accomplishments. I’m in several “book club” groups. Instead of discussing books, people seem intent on racing each other. I wanted to comment because it seems silly for grownups to be putting numbers that often seem absurd. Savor your books.
Jennifer~ I personally don’t have the urge to tell anyone the number of books I read, but Ms. Jessie Nabors asked. That’s all. No Biggie. It’s all good. 🙂
Syntha Martin Green I found the op rude. I also find you rude. I’m now waiting on Alladin to come by so I can hop on his magic carpet and go finish my 402,649,001,871st book this week. Bye bye.
Jennifer Yoakum Chadwick I believe you mean Aladdin and if you find the question rude, scroll on by. It really is that simple. She said absolutely nothing about a competition and most of us are grown up enough to know that everyone has different reading speeds, reads different materials and has differing amounts of free time in which to read. A person who reads 1,000 200 page books is a reader, so is a person who reads 10,000 picture books, or the person who reads the 700 pagers. More power to them.
Jeez I must be really picky. I’ve started 6 but haven’t finished a single one due to lack of interest. Read a lot more when my daughter was newborn and I had long boring feedings to fill
Only 29. We’ve had a great summer here in the Pacific Northwest, so I’ve lost my reading mojo. I’m sure I’ll feel like reading again when we have a rainy fall.
So far 25 but it’d be a lot higher. My godmother passed away 2 years ago & left me 2 houses one was a huge 4 bedroom farm house & the other is a 3 bedroom & she was a hoarder & had both of them completely full so I had to clean both of them out sold the farm & I’m keeping the 3 bedroom house & am in the process of remodeling it cause nobody had lived in it since my great uncle passed away 50 years so I haven’t had much time to read like I used to this past year lol!!
It was & I used to watch the show Howrders not even knowing she was like this & watching the show didn’t even prepare me & I literally had a panic attack when we started on the town house!! On the bright side of it I found my parents wedding invitation & they will be married 58 years this coming January!! We also found a beautiful round Oak dinning table that has 6 leaves to it & I just moved from a tiny one bedroom apartment into a 3 bedroom house & didn’t have a table!! We also packed up & took to goodwill 2 truck loads of books, I kept all the cookbooks & a few other books like this one that they made into a movie way back when lol.
I’m retired, have been for several years, and I have LESS time to read! Much busier now. I found a whole lot of new interests to indulge in, I guess. I still enjoy reading, but I’m not reading as much as I used to.
I like to keep track of all I’ve read, having the number of how much I’ve read, through Goodreads, is just an added bonus. Plus, as someone who has dyslexia, seeing how well I’ve done in a year makes me feel good. I don’t believe most of us see it as a race. You could have just not responded to the post if you didn’t agree with it ?
@Leah Again with the chiding. We’re responding because we are allowed to have our own opinions. I would hate to see this site or any other make someone feel bad for not reading fast enough or enough books for a stupid competition. Besides, some people read trashy romance that can be read in a few hours. Others chose literature or difficult non-fiction. How do you compare them?
Jennifer Yoakum Chadwick alright ?. Comparing what I am reading vs the next person would then make it sound like I’m part of some race or competition. I’m just saying no one needs to feel bad for keeping track of how much they read just as those that don’t keep track need to feel bad. I’m just explaining that many of us don’t find it a competition when we keep track of what we read.
Jessie Nabors I certainly don’t feel bad. I am handicapped and in bed most of the time. I have much more time to read than most. As a teacher, I know some people will feel bad about themselves.
I have read 13 of my 18 book goal for the year! My husband and I each own our own businesses plus we have two kids. I am very happy with what I have read so far this year!
My numbers are going down because I’m making a deliberate effort to do deeper reading and savor my books a bit more. That being said, every once in awhile I devour a novel because I can’t wait to see how it ends!
I do keep a list, but it’s just to track the authors I like, as their new ? are published. I think the important thing is to KEEP READING. It brings me escape, information, pleasure, surprise & a wonderful community of fellow readers in the book clubs I belong to. I ? ?!
Good for you ! I just started reading this year… I’ve read many books before but with school then having kids I didn’t have the time… now I barely watch tv
@Enayah I always had my nose in a book when I was in school. Like you, work and having a family to take care of became a priority. My husband and I are empty nesters now, so it’s time to reignite my love for reading!!!
I’m confused by those leaving comments (sometimes snidely) that they don’t keep track. Why respond then? If someone asks if I’ve read a book on here, and I haven’t, I don’t feel the need to respond “No, didn’t realize people needed to have read it to be cool!” (Or enter some other snide remark that I lack the ability to state) I just..you know…don’t respond? So you don’t keep track? Cool, whatever makes you happy. No need to try to talk down to us that do. We keep track for many reasons past whatever competition or races you seem to think we all are in.
I think it’s equally interesting. If people asked ‘What’s your favourite book?’ it’s valid to say, ‘I don’t have one – I can’t choose’, or if they asked ‘How many books have you read?’ it’s valid to put ‘I don’t know – I never thought of counting’. That’s all I put and didn’t mean anything by it.
Cara Shanley and that’s totally fine. I get it, I don’t expect everyone to keep track. Totally a personal preference. I guess I’m more confused by those that feel the need to state “who care, it’s not a race/competition/etc.” “I think it’s stupid”. That just comes off as talking down to those that enjoy keeping track, in my opinion.
Very well put @Leah and a very worthy comparison. I find it unnecessary also and slightly disappointing that it’s diminished the tone of this group a little for me.
At the end of the day, many of us use apps such as Goodreads which automatically track your books and have a Reading Challenge for those who wish to challenge themselves. If self-drive and achievement wasn’t something people were interested in it wouldn’t be a feature. When I was a child my library had a “Booktrack” scheme where you got a reward for every 25 (i think) books read. When you got to 100 you were in the local paper. I don’t understand all the hate and passive aggressive comments. Tracking books isn’t a new concept.
I find it interesting to see how people are getting on with their own personal goals, so for me I prefer to see “50/100” for example rather than “50”, because then it’s more relative, but that’s just me.
I don’t think it matters, there. I don’t keep track to feel better or worse, depending on how much every one else has read. I can’t speak for everyone else on why they keep track ?
@Leah I keep track because I can’t keep series straight lol. Just last month I brought home 2 books I had already read but didn’t remember. The older I get he worse it gets lol Goodreads for life
So I put my books in currently reading on Goodreads and have noticed lately that list is sooo long because of DNF, I think I’m finally more ok with not finishing if I’m really not into it
Reading: 7 (I think) Audio: a couple dozen, maybe 30? I don’t count, because it would bum/stress me out. I have 4 kids and work part time. I don’t get nearly as much reading time as I want, and I read slowly. I recently discovered audiobooks and I’m thrilled to be getting through books again after having a number of years of only getting through about 4 books per year
This is the first year I’ve made a concerted effort to keep track, I set my good reads challenge at 500, so far so good. I also printed out the Pop Sugar challenge and I’m failing miserably at that lol- none of my reading is fitting the categories very well
Jean Wierzbinski everything – lighter on NF though as I’m more of a fiction girl. I kind of go off on reading tangents and try to explore sub genres that are getting buzz. For the past year I read a lot of steampunk, then a lot of paranormal, now I’m reading more science fiction. I love Reader’s Advisory at work but I have to be prepared for that (and I know I should read more NF for that) plus I have kids so I read tons there too.
@Laura It’s a work in progress- I still forget to put things on there, every so often I try to mark things read that I read years ago. Honestly I need more accountability, so far goodreads is working for me but I only got serious about it last year. Also I really have trouble keeping track of series so it’s very helpful there.
Also if you’re looking for highbrow reading I’m not your gal lol
Only nineteen so far, but my “year” just started at the beginning of the summer. I’m just starting to get my reading-mojo back after almost 20 years of barely reading at all.
I love anthologies so I can read bits and pieces of them. I have several lying around in progress. It takes me forever to finish them a little at a time, but I’ve found a lot of my favorite authors that way
My focus this year just hasn’t been working out for me… but when I do get into a book, I’m so pleased to be able to finish it! Last year, I only got 5 books read. I think it’s my medications making me unfocused. I’ll be back into it at some point soon. 😀
It’s really great to see which books you’ve read over your lifetime, that’s why I keep track. I started a book ledger when I was 12 and I’ve never lost it.
Brilliant. Your brain must be wonderful. I’m on about 20. Had such a work filled summer. Totally fell down on the job. Post back on new year’s and tell us all how many you’ve read ❤️
I don’t think it does matter she was just asking. I’m guessing to some people it’s important to keep a log of the books they have read while others won’t see the point. It’s the same as anything in life I guess, some people understand the need to do something while others don’t.
I’m glad u asked that question. Cause when I went back and counted the books I’d read It gave a sense of accomplishment. Like I’d succeeded in something.
@Jessie I’m in two book clubs which meet monthly so I’ve read alot of books this year I wouldn’t have normally picked up. Currently reading The things we keep by Sally Hepworth.
I am not sure, but next year I do want to set a goal for myself and keep track. I do have little time to read, but on the other hand I do see myself wasting some time on internet and TV.
@Tina i dont like that other people will see what is my book list sometime, really dont know why i feel like this sometime??.thats why i kept diary for my books for last 3 years & also to keep track what im reading with a little review ??

@Laura If people are keeping track just for themselves, why the urge to tell everyone?
I don’t go around telling everyone how many books I’ve read to date, but she was curious and asked. What’s the problem?
@Syntha What’s your problem that I find it stupid?
Jennifer~
I personally don’t have the urge to tell anyone the number of books I read, but Ms. Jessie Nabors asked.
That’s all. No Biggie. It’s all good. 🙂
@Jennifer I think the problem is you seem rude. You can scroll on by if you think it’s stupid. Which, btw is really rude towards the op

@Jennifer actually I meant bye, but did change it because I figured you’d think that
I actually forgot the comma – scroll on, bye.
@Jennifer also that’s what you said last time
Only 14 for me
i’m reading my 80th

Because someone asked us, out of curiosity, so we shared?

Me too! Be proud of 4. We all live busy lives?
@Annamarie thank you

Who cares, I’m not competing
I’ve kept a list for about 9 years, to avoid re-reading a ? in a “senior moment.” I’m up to 2,982 & my goal by year’s end is 3,000. I ❤️ ?!
No idea.
19
Stupid me…I thought that reading was a relaxing past time but how dumb could I have been….it is a race!
Lol not a race. When you are retired like me you have more time. If you have kids or a job or more of a life than I do ? you read fewer books
That made me giggle! x
I’m retired, have been for several years, and I have LESS time to read! Much busier now. I found a whole lot of new interests to indulge in, I guess. I still enjoy reading, but I’m not reading as much as I used to.

Well said I was thinking the same thing, but you said it better than I could have.
Good grief! Leave us alone. I think listing a number is asinine. You are the one who won’t drop it. SMDH
If you don’t want to list a number why respond at all, a lot more people answered with numbers than ones who didn’t like you. Why don’t you move on.

I don’t think it matters, there. I don’t keep track to feel better or worse, depending on how much every one else has read. I can’t speak for everyone else on why they keep track ?
nope. in fact, you don’t have t count at all ( from a counter)
Nope, enjoy what you read, and do it regularly

I also have a one hour commute to work each way and listen to audiobooks instead of the radio
What kinds of books do you read?
@Syntha Do you have to have a lot of schooling to be a librarian?
Jean Wierzbinski everything – lighter on NF though as I’m more of a fiction girl. I kind of go off on reading tangents and try to explore sub genres that are getting buzz. 81, plus short stories that I don’t log.
118
Damn! Maybe 10.
45
44 I think
60
I don’t keep track. It will be a fun statistic in January.
40 but one of them was Texas by Michener – 1472 pages so that should count for 2 or 3 books?
if there in any book 100 /150 pages, those should count half ??…even quarter???
18
78 and one of them was “War and Peace.”
I’m stalled on W&P, I’d better get reading again!
@Julie I was stuck in the battle scenes until I started reading them while listening to epic music. It made it easier to get through.
@Laura They bog me down too! The same thing happened when I read Les Miserables, Waterloo had me waterlogged!
I don’t keep track of the books I read. Never saw a reason to do that, also don’t set a goal of how many to read each year. I read for pleasure.
Best reason to read. That and to relax.
31
It’s really great to see which books you’ve read over your lifetime, that’s why I keep track. I started a book ledger when I was 12 and I’ve never lost it.
22
Brilliant. Your brain must be wonderful. I’m on about 20. Had such a work filled summer. Totally fell down on the job. Post back on new year’s and tell us all how many you’ve read ❤️
84 and still going
33
48
No idea
95
I dont even know anymore lol
3. My reading challenge was for 50. So… A little behind. Yeah.
Life happens.
I don’t count…should I?
I keep a list of what I’ve read just so I don’t borrow from library again.
I’m the same… I only know because of my list
Over 50
65
70
What does it matter how many books each of us has read? It is not a contest!
I don’t think it does matter she was just asking. I’m guessing to some people it’s important to keep a log of the books they have read while others won’t see the point. It’s the same as anything in life I guess, some people understand the need to do something while others don’t.
66 goal 90
God I didn’t what to start an argument, it was just a simple question.
74!! My target was 60 ? xxx
Great job.
To everyone who was nice about this, thank you.
Your welcome.
I’m glad u asked that question. Cause when I went back and counted the books I’d read It gave a sense of accomplishment. Like I’d succeeded in something.
Wow 81 is impressive I’m on book 73. Do you have a goa!? I am hoping to read 100 by the end of 2018.
Me 2
@Jessie I’m in two book clubs which meet monthly so I’ve read alot of books this year I wouldn’t have normally picked up. Currently reading The things we keep by Sally Hepworth.
158. The truth is some of them were short reads because I’d fallen behind with my gr challenge and needed to keep up with it.
I hit 71
Come on guys! You can’t put numbers on books. Maybe ask “How many books over 500 pages have you read this year?”
How many pages have you read ?
More than 25
I just hit 50 this week
93 so far
Nice! I read 96 last year. Might only hit 80 this year but I can’t complain. 🙂
For me it’s the quality not quantity …
4. For me it’s not about how many
Jessie, does someone bring you food?
??
No, why ?
If I did that much reading , there would be no time to food shop, cook, clean up etc. Just adding a little humor!!
@Nancy lol.
165
49
214, close to finishing the 215th one.
How much time do you triple digit people have ?
Monica, I have an hour and a half commute on public transportation twice a day…that really helps my reading!!
@Debra jealous!! That sounds lovely ?

Struggling with Kings “bag of bones since december I couldn’t makes it this year
Last year I had a nice pace going and Kings It slowed me waaay down. I feel like I never got my groove back.
@Christina Same here the book is full of dreams, illusions and invisible characters
Blimey that’s a lot. I think I read about ten
36
35 so far!
26?
106 ???
I am not sure, but next year I do want to set a goal for myself and keep track. I do have little time to read, but on the other hand I do see myself wasting some time on internet and TV.
I use Goodreads to set reading goals
@Sherry i was thinking that, but tried to find a way to make my list private. Is that even poss?
@Tina I think it is private
@Sherry oh ok. I see what others have on their lists. I never friended anyone, but peeps have friended me. So was not sure
@Tina I guess I don’t know either but I don’t care if people see my list
@Tina u can keep a diary for the book u read.
@Aysha yes, will prob just do that. Not sure why i care what others see i read, but i do for some reason.?
@Tina i dont like that other people will see what is my book list sometime, really dont know why i feel like this sometime??.thats why i kept diary for my books for last 3 years & also to keep track what im reading with a little review ??
I’ve been keeping track of my reading lists since 2009. My average is around 50 books per year, and I doubt I’ll read much higher than that number.
don’t know, but I read 2-3 a week on average, so probably around 80 or so
only 26.maybe because im a slow reader
As long as you enjoy reading who cares about stats, even if you set a personal goal. ? i am not the fastest either.
Can’t even keep track.
I have finished 12. I have started many more than that and only give it to page 20. Life is too short to spend on books I don’t like! ?
Me too, many started than stopped, i refuse to waste time anymore on books i do not enjoy
22
32. I think. Mostly short ones for a short attention span.
198. Lots of plane rides for work. Thankful for kindles, when I had to travel with paper books I would always need a second bag.
