I read about 3 books but February has been a busy month as I was at a book signing for holly black and Cassandra Clare but hopefully March will be better
I try to read 24-30 books a year. I am behind a bit as I have only read 3 so far this year. I am a quality not quantity reader. I have a long list of books I want to read, probably enough for five years. I may have to up my game lol
I just begun the 13th today, but only two of those first 12 books were read in february, so there is no telling how many I get to enjoy in any given year it varies wildly, from barely 50 to 200+. Depends on what life throws at me.
@Dawn I am single, no kids at home or even in the same state. I have over 4000 books in my house so I don’t have to go out searching for any.https://www.goodreads.com/%5Buser slug=”u1930871992″ first_name=”Mary” last_name=”Rand”]
@Mary Amazing!!! I wonder what your reading speed is? Do you do Rapid Reading techniques like using hand gestures to speed up your reading? I wonder if you apply the method of NOT sub-vocalizing when reading? Gosh, doesn’t your brain burn afterwards with information overload? How do you cope?
P.S.: Apologies for the barrage if questions! This has piqued my curiosity. I’ve been trying to up my reading speed for years.
@Sherryl I read two books today so I am taking a break and doing this. I can speed read but I don’t. I just read fast. I can’t answer the sub_vocalizing question. I only sleep 4 hours a day so that gives me extra reading hours.
@Mary Yea, I’d agree with you on just reading speedily out of years of practice. You get to appreciate the book better by just going at your own pace. I can’t work with not subvocalizing especially when reading fiction. Subvocalizing refers to having that voice in your head vocalise the text you’re reading. This is how we first taught to learn to read as kids… by vocalizing each alphabet we see. So it gets programmed in us and we continue to vocalize what we read in our heads.
Three so far. Working on the fourth. I’ll read while watching something online or DVD so long as the show or movie’s in English. My sister and I have been doing that since we were children. If it’s a foreign language show or movie with subtitles don’t do dubbed. Can’t stand it, I end up paying more attention to the mouths not matching the words. I’ll watch the movie or an episode or two. Than read a chapter or two of the current book. Depending on just how long or short the chapter is. It’s not uncommon for me to read a book with near or more than a thousand pages print edition.
I am on book 6, which honestly is really good for me. My goal this year is 10! Lol. I will be exceeding past my goal considering I am reading the Game of Thrones series and The Shadow Hunter series. ?
1. A Column of Fire by Ken Follett 2. Calypso by David Sedaris 3. Becoming by Michelle Obama 4. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott 5. The Truths We Hold by Kamala Harris 6. Educated by Tara Westover (Taking a break from War and Peace)
Haven’t even finished 1 because I’m going through an extremely difficult time and have been depressed. It makes me sad I haven’t been reading much. Hopefully I will be able to soon.
I’m on to my third book… I’m not doing so well. I hope to up my game. normally I do two books in a month. this time around it’s like I’m only managing one in a month. So disappointed in myself
Everyone reads at their own pace. Some faster then some, some slower then others. I’m among the slower. I’ve read 5 so far and am working on my 6th. And by golly lol I’m proud of that number! In my opinion if you’ve just read one book or are still working on your first one so far this year you should be proud. You dont have to read dozens of books a year to be a book lover! ?❤?
Better question is what have you learned so far? One for was that Stephen King went through the artist struggle just like.many of.us are … Nobody usually talks.about.the dark.times but rival in the good , this man has been humble enough to let everyone know that we’ve all been there , hopefully in the end we will have half the success that man.has
@Dodi have you tried audio books? I get a lot more read this way, driving, lunch breaks, doing housework. I use Libby (OverDrive) through my library & it’s free!
Have no idea. Don’t care about numbers. The story is what counts. I do log them, but don’t tally them until the evening of December 31. Then, I keep the number private because it has no bearing on the quality of the stories read. IMO.

@Sherryl Reading speed, I used to know years ago but I have forgotten.
@Mary Yea, I’d agree with you on just reading speedily out of years of practice. You get to appreciate the book better by just going at your own pace. I’m on to my third book… I’m not doing so well. I hope to up my game. normally I do two books in a month. this time around it’s like I’m only managing one in a month. So disappointed in myself

@Dodi have you tried audio books? I get a lot more read this way, driving, lunch breaks, doing housework. I use Libby (OverDrive) through my library & it’s free!

Working on number 10.
