I’ve heard so many good thing about Gone Girl. But I saw the movie and didn’t like it. Is it still worth reading the book?

The book is so much better ☺️
Agree! The book was a mindf*ck… The movie was just confusing
@Alyssa lmao that’s Ben affleck for you lol. I devoured the book in a day. This may have just prompted a re-read ☺️
I have not read gone girl but I read her books and loved them
I hated it. Struggled to get through it. I wouldn’t bother.
I did not like the book at all! Finally gave up.
I listened to the audiobook, I really enjoyed it, but I haven’t watched the movie.
I know a lot of people love the book but I disliked it as well. I wish I could say different.
Read sharp objects
The book is worst
Terrible story.
The book is great. Her other books are good too. Can’t comment on the film/tv adaptations.
The book is great. I bought the book cause I knew there was a movie. Read it first then watched the movie. So yeah read the book!!!!!! Lol
Personally, I got 1/4 through the book and DNF’d it. I already hated both of them.
I loved both..but I think the book is the same as the movie imo
Mmm I loved the book AND the movie, and in my opinion the adaptation does a really good job in taking all of the important things in the story and maintaining the impacts and the atmosphere, etc. I think the ending was a bit different, but that was it. So if you didn’t like the movie, I don’t think you should read the book.
Anyways, can I recommend you another thriller? The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson, is really good, much fast paced than GG, and sooo engaging.
@Melissa I’ll add it to TBR
I haven’t seen the movie, but I thought the book was pretty underwhelming.
Not worth reading
I liked the movie better, soooo… ?
It’s very similar to the movie, so if you didn’t like the film, I would skip it. The book obviously has more details, but the overall story arch is the same.
that was my least favorite of her books tbh. her others are SO MUCH better. i actually kinda hated the book…the characters were so…annoying. and unlikeable. and i really kinda hated amy. a lot. lol
If you didn’t like the movie, probably not. They’re pretty similar. I liked it but you may not…and you already know the twist.
I really liked the book and devoured it in a couple of days, but part of what i liked was reading the plot twist and where that took the story so… I don’t know if i would have enjoyed the book already knowing the end ?
i REALLY did NOT like it. I didn’t like either of the main characters.
worth reading, the movie doesn’t even begin to cover what happens in the book
I loved the book and hated the movie
I loved both! But don’t let the movie keep you from the book.
The movie was better imo lol But I’m also a slut for David Fincher
I think the movie is one of the few adaptations that stays close to the book. That being said, reading the story in the way it’s written is a different experience. Also, I had imagined the characters looking much different than the actors, so that might affect your reading as well. All that being said, knowing the twist might take away the enjoyment of reading the book.
The movie was horrible, lol. I understand that theyre two different entities but…. I prefer the book.
I thought the book was boring. The movie was slightly better
I hated the book. ? Didn’t see the movie.
Honestly it is just ok. If you can get a library copy or borrow from a friend that would be great. Wouldn’t spend a lot of money on it.
The book has the worst ending I think of all the books I’ve ever read.
@Ellen I threw it!
@Ellen but I think Anna Karenina still wins for me.
@Queenie never read it but I kept turning the pages at the end of Gone Girl like that’s it??
@Ellen Exactly. I was like, no way. She can’t end it like that.
I read the book and was so mad at the end. Came home to husband watching the movie one night, so I joined without having seen it. Got to the end, and he was so pissed! “Wait, that’s it?! So it just ends like that? That’s bullshit.” I told him. Know I was so mad when I finished the book. He just stared at me. “You knew? You knew how it ended and you let me keep watching it?!” ?
Loved the audiobook
The book is better in that so much of the story has to do with secrecy and inner thoughts and deceptionv which Ithink is portrayed better with words than on screen. That being said, I wasn’t really a fan of either.
Her other books are better. Sharp Objects and Dark Places.
@Monika totally agree
@Monika agreed. Her shirt story The Grownup is good too. Liked all of those more than Gone Girl
Also her short story
Could not get into the book.
It was a weird concept to depict in movie form, but they did as good of a job as i think they could have.
I enjoyed the book much better just because the way the story was formatted worked much better.
I enjoyed the book more … But I still didn’t love it
I read the book after watching the movie and really enjoyed it and actually felt the movie to be very similar to the book so if you’re not into the movie you probably won’t be into the book.
Personally I think the book is overhyped. I liked it enough but I wasn’t in love with it like everyone else seems to be
I know a number of people didn’t like it, but I loved it. I do find her writing involves a lot of characters that are hard to empathize with or even like.
Book is x100000 times better!
@Jessica I agree
Hated.the.book.
I hated the characters tbh.
I did not like the book and haven’t watched the movie lol
I honestly couldn’t finish the book.
The book is definitely better, but the ending is kind of a let down.
Book is better but didn’t love the ending:)
I didn’t like the movie either, but to be fair I read the book first so idk if the movie even had a fair chance
I enjoyed the book, I thought it was worth a read but never one that was going to be an all time favourite X
I like her other 2 books better.
I think yes if you are interested in writing. Having seen the film, you know the twists & can read to see how the author managed it
In a word, YES
