My entire life, I have LOVED reading and I have LOVED Books! However, as I got older, I came to appreciate e-Books. What I like about Kindle and iBooks: 1. I can easily enlarge the font 2. I can easily change the lighting and read at night without disturbing my husband 3. I can get free samples of hundreds of books and read a couple chapters before purchasing 4. I can take hundreds of books with me wherever I go! ?????????
Also, as a Prime member, you can get Kindle First…a free ARC. The editors choose 5+ titles, you get to download 1 book from the list every month. New book on the 1st of every month. All part of Prime membership.
@Susan Look under the Prime tab. Scroll down to the bottom. Under Read, they put the ARCs under Amazon First Reads. It’s the last day of the month. You can grab April’s pick & then tomorrow pick May’s.
It wasn’t the right fit for me. But I know a lot of people who love it. I signed up under a special 3 month promotion and wasn’t out a whole lot of money to give it a shot. I only ready 1 book the entire 3 months I had the subscription and decided it just wasn’t for me. But I am not a fan of ebooks in general, so that didn’t help my experience with it either…
@Maria That’s the key. If you read a lot, you can get your money’s worth per month. If you don’t read as much or as fast, it may be cheaper to buy the Unlimited books of your choice since they are very reasonably priced.
It can be. It depends on you ??. I quit for awhile when I realized I was just storing books in it. I check out kindle books from the library, and never seemed to read the ones I had on Unlimited. I have since rejoined though :). And I’m making sure I read them ???
Marcia Callahan Hopewell , that is the reason I dropped it, none of the bestsellers or any new books for that matter were on the list, I also dropped out of it.
Some of the authors I like to read are on Kindle Unlimited, but overall, I get distracted with ARCs or other books first. 🙁 So I’m thinking of cancelling as well.

If you have Prime, do Prime Reading. I had Unlimited, but when I saw Prime Reading, I thought…why am I paying for Unlimited?
@Michelle I do have prime.
@Lynne it’s part of your membership. Under the Kindle Store page, just click on the Prime Reading tab. Lots of books, magazines & newspapers.
@Michelle Just a Kindle, or can I on the app?
I use the app. I generally use the computer to download titles. I checked the app and it does list titles as “Prime Reading.”

I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have found it to be very much worth it.
Yes
I think maybe it depends on your interests, what genre/authors you prefer. I did unlimited and found it wasn’t worth in for me.

I have picked up, read, and enjoyed so many books that I wouldn’t have otherwise thanks to Kindle Unlimited! I definitely recommend giving it a try.
Yes! I was skeptical but if you read a lot it’s worth it.

Yes. I read a ton of Amazon’s imprints (Lake Union, Montlake Romance and Thomas and Mercer).
Definitely.
Does your library do hoopla or overdrive?
@Donna yes! In fact I’m an adult literacy coordinator at the Los Angeles Public Library. I rarely pay for books bc I borrow from the library.
@Lynne -I was going to suggest that you start with that first.
our library has Libby too. What is great is you can download to your Kindle

@Sarah are they hard to operate? Aged and nothing comes with books of directions anymore!
Yes it is

Does your library have an app for ebooks and audio? Mine uses Hoopla and I love it.
@Utah me too!
I have Kindle unlimited and love it
Absolutely. I get to read all the time with it. Love it!
I have it, love it.
What is it
I had unlimited for a year and realized that I usually read my regular Kindle books first and wasted the money on unlimited.
The books I wanted to read were rarely part of the deal. I cancelled after a year.
Marcia Callahan Hopewell , that is the reason I dropped it, none of the bestsellers or any new books for that matter were on the list, I also dropped out of it.

Yes.
Yes.
Yes. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the chance to get to know several new authors that I might not otherwise have encountered. I think it is very worth it.
Try Libby first, its free
I love it. It adds to my TBR list geometrically, but it gets me all my “guilty pleasure books for $9.99 a month.
Wasn’t for me. I prefer to get samples and just buy as I go along, reading a hard copy ever so often.
Yes
You can get a library card for free and I found that the selection is better that way for audio and kindle books.
I use it all the time I found several self published authors that I like and put out books every couple of months.
