Awesome series. Told from perspective of a regular mercenary. Read especially if you like your “good guys” to be “evil lite”

I loved the first book and looking forward to the rest

It started good and each set of books gets a bit weaker. I finally gave up halfway through the third set of stories.

First book was ok but not good enough to make me pick up the second

I read one set and found it really weak in building atmosphere. The plot was good, but I wasn’t immersed in a rich vivid fantasy world to any extent.

I rate this 1 1/2 Abercrombies. (By comparison, Joe Abercrombie himself rates 4 Abercrombies, so that first rating isn’t too good!)

I couldn’t get all the way through the first book. But it was an interesting story. I see why people like it lots. I might have to try restarting.

I stopped around book 4. Just couldn’t stay interested. The first 3 were good I thought though.

just started book 7 last night, love the series. I adored Malazan, so thought this would be similar, with the whole army corps thing. Not as immersive as Erikson, but enjoying ot thoroughly.

I have finished the first book ‘The Black Company’, I agree with people here that it is slow at times, but stick with it, it ends on a high note, and the way the story is going I am keen to continue with the following two books. It isn’t huge on world building in my opinion it’s very character driven and there is a LOT of action with humerous, and interesting character developments inbetween. By the time I finished the first book, I was mindblown, it is amazingly written very different then anyother fantasy I have read. I feel like it’s written like a historic fantasy book, except there is no relation to real history except the war annals way in which it is written.

Alot of people miss the point about the lack of world building. It’s told from the perspective of a merc. His pov isn’t going to elaborate on what the place looked like but on what HAPPENED

Second book is hard to find. Amazon has it for $500. If you’re going to buy the series, you can buy the first three in a single book.

I’ve read the first book and it was good… interesting…. different. His writing style is sort of … distant. The characters seem distant to me, as if it’s hard to get to know them.

Very famous and populate book. I’ve tried to read it a couple of times, but I could never get through it. Seems dated and boring to me. 🙂
